Located in a non-descript shopping plaza that I almost passed by even using GPS, Hair City is in a shopping plaza that also houses a hair salon (very convenient) but also a fish market (an odd combination to be sure). For a Saturday afternoon - the parking lot was hopping and although the fishy smell that emanated from the hallway was a bit off putting, I persevered as I was on a mission. Once inside I was greeted by a plethora of products for both men and women. From wigs and extensions to hair dyes and styling products, this store has it all. Although the store has a myriad of products, which might be overwhelming, the shelves were neatly arranged and organized. As I traveled up and down the aisles, I was amazed at how many products Hair City had in stock for not only women but for men as well. . The staff was friendly and accommodating and they were able to help me find exactly what I needed in a short amount of time. Even though I had a hard time correctly explaining what I needed, I must have made enough sense as they directed me to exactly what I was searching for. A great hidden gem in Hartford. Definitely a place to go for all things hair related! Putting this in the category of don't judge a book by it's cover!

This isn't a fancy, up-scale salon. Don't expect to be wowed by a modern interior or exterior. The location is in a sort of old plaza in Vernon, and the location itself is a little old-fashioned. However, don't let any of that fool you. I can speak personally for the quality of Janice and Ginger's techniques. They both have been cutting hair for over 30 years. Not only are the prices EXTREMELY reasonable (I regularly pay $25 or less for a shampoo + hair cut), I always leave with a great hair cut. I'm 27 and I have a lot of friends who get a little wigged out going to a salon where the people there have been cutting hair so long, but honestly, I've had $60 hair cuts in fancy salons and been really disappointed. The people at Great Beginnings really listen to you, and they do a fantastic job. They come highly recommended from me!

She took her tome with me and tested all different things (with very high understanding of the Covid problems being extra careful with sanitation and disinfection) which I know must be making everyone's job in make up stores that much harder. For all my disabled people, the aisles are clean, wide enough for scooters, wheelchairs, and walkers and the items are stocked, organized and accessible and for those that are not there is always help. Walking in, I had to try really hard not to spend all of my hard earned money in the curiosities shop. There you can find everything from handmade bath bombs, beauty and hair products (made by Sarah herself!) to jewelry, candles, hoodies and even antiques. The salon space has locally made artwork on the walls, is really open, comfortable and immaculately clean. Since the stylists are all friends, the environment is really welcoming and playful and not stuffy like a lot of salons. Sarah does an incredible job cutting and coloring my hair. She has an eye for funky colors and pays great attention to detail, not only with color but also with styling. It's not an exaggeration that every time I go in I tell her to do whatever she wants and after getting it done, I get so many compliments on my hair! She's done everything from a little pink and purple to rainbow streaks to mermaid colors and it always comes out beautifully. Sarah cuts my husband's hair as well and I can attest to the fact that she's also skilled at cutting men's hair. I personally can't speak for the other ladies, but I'm sure they're wonderful as well. If you're close-by, you should do yourself a favor and stop in to either buy something fun in the shop or treat yourself with a new cut or fun color. Her shampoos and conditioners leave my hair so soft even with all of the color treatments that I have done to my hair. Sarah knows how to take care of hair so it does not dryout and/or break. I highly recommend her if you are considering coloring your hair, or just having it cut. In her shop she has wonderful items. I buy her lotions and soaps. Sarah has other artists items in her store, it is wonderful. Each time I go and get my hair done I find unique items that find a home with me from her shop.
