As we were walking through the streets of Amsterdam, crossing over one of the many canals, we were looking for a place for tasty eats, and something that we hadn't tried yet. We stumbled upon Seoul Food, and we decided to give it a try. When we first walked in, it was difficult to ascertain if it's a mini store, a take away restaurant, and then discovered it's a little bit of everything. You place your order at the counter with the very rude women that are standing there chatting amongst themselves and who don't really care if they have customers or not. Don't ask them about the food, their opinions, or anything else because they will only begrudgingly respond. Once you order, you can find somewhere to sit. Seating is extremely limited, and you're more likely to share a space with others than to have your own space. While we were sitting waiting for our food, which by the way is not brought to the table your number is called and you have to return back to the counter to pick it up yourself, they do have an entire wall filled with tchotchkes and food items. Number called and we picked up our food and we needed to ask for napkins and cutlery, because none of that was provided. The food pretty much was bland to mediocre, and the dishes that we ordered that should've been hot, were barely room temperature. The eggs in the dishes we ordered were premade and cold. Poor form, poor food, poor quality. Just not good whatsoever. The wontons were very rubbery and we were not able to eat them. They were that bad. OMG, this place is incredible! I can't believe I live within a block of here, walked by this over a 100 times and never went inside. I absolutely love Korean food, dumplings, bibimbap and they have it all here! They are severely limited these days due to the current Covid-19 restrictions in The Netherlands, but their carry out is plentiful, with smiling, friendly, faces behind the counter (with a nice plastic screen to protect everyone). They will either heat up the food here for you or you can take home and warm it yourself. Totally lekker! I can't wait to try everything here and eventually sit inside and enjoy the table service. read more

I miss NYC Korea town, but this little place hits the spot when I'm craving Korean food. It's really good for takeout, just a heads up that everything is pre-made and refrigerated, and then the reheat in a microwave when you order. The little triangle riceballs (kimbap) are really good, especially the spicy pork. The japchae seems more like rice noodles than the sweet potato noodles that I like, but it's good cold on a summer day too. I didn't like their bibimbap as much and their tteokbokki was on the sweet side, but yeah I'm a fan. The staff are also really nice, and there's a selection of Korean snacks in the back of the store. There's not a whole lot of room to sit, it's very casual. Fancy takeout chopsticks rather than the ones in the sleeve, which I appreciate haha. If you want gochujang or other sauce, they charge additional 0.5 euro for it. read more

My sister and I were really craving some Korean food after arriving to Amsterdam. We had bibimbap, kimchi dumplings, and ddukbokki (spicy korean rice cakes). The dumplings and ddukbokki especially satisfied our cravings; the bibimbap was what one would typically expect. I saw Seoul Food as I was driving by one morning and decided to go back for lunch. I was excited for the potential of a new Korean restaurant in Amsterdam. Food: I ordered one samgyupsal kimbap and one order of the cucumber kimchi. Both tasted delicious with full of flavor. I was happy with the authenticity of both items and also the serving portion. Since my kimbap was so good I ordered one more for takeaway for my husband along with one bibimbap with beef and one order of mandu (10 pieces). The kimbap and mandu were fantastic even heated up at home. Drinks: I ordered one bottled water. Price: 33.50€ for the six items Service: Very friendly and helpful Ambiance: Super casual and very comfortable for a takeaway spot. They have a communal table in the back where you can enjoy your food, but also a couch if you wanted to sit and have a coffee. Would I go back? Absolutely! I'm finally happy to have an authentic Korean place to eat at in Amsterdam. They're menu is simple and once it's gone, it's gone so make sure you get there early! read more

I was so happy that there was a Korean take-away close to my house. I tasted the bibimbap and triangle kimbab and it was not bad. I tasted a lot of autenthic Korean food I felt like something was missing from the bibbimbab. I think that there should be more gochujamg too. For the price you pay you get quite a little in comparison to as example Mr Bap in The Hague. The triangle kimbab was delicious! I loved that there was mayo inside it and avocado. I think this just a start for this small restaurant and I think later they will become even better. I really loved the place. It small and cozy fun to hang out with a couple of friends listening to some K-pop. The owners are also very friendly. I am defenitly going back to taste their other dishes. read more

Whilst in the bathroom I made a mental note to recommend adding Got7 to their collection of kpop posters pinned up all over the wall. I was so excited when this place opened because it's really difficult to find good Korean food in Amsterdam and Seoul Food didn't disappoint (I'm also a sucker for pun-ny restaurant names). They have pre-made food to go so if you're in a lunch rush and have to get back to the office quickly this place isn't a bad idea. The seating area is kinda small (with a communal table), but that's OK because it's pretty cozy. They also sell Korean snacks, ramen, seaweed, drinks, etc. But this place would be LIT if it expanded 5x and turned into a Korean supermarket too (Hey! A girl can dream, right?! haha.). I had the bibimbap with bulgogi and it was really good. The gochujang sauce wasn't extremely spicy and added just the perfect amount of flavor to the rice bowl. read more

It's been four days since I happily realised Seoul Food was open! Oh, how I've been waiting... I always have high hopes for Korean food and in Amsterdam I'm always disappointed. I have two barometers and everything else adds or detracts... I always try the Jap Chae/Chap Chae as that's about as simple as it gets. Stir-fried noodles and veggies, vegetarian-style for me. And, the key is also in the kim chi. Seoul Food...ahhh, my soul!!!!!!!!!!!! First day, ChapChae and traditional Bokchoy kim chi. Spicy, but also FLAVORFUL kim chi. Lekker and essential! The Chapchae was loaded with veggies and not at all oily but seasoned and moist enough that there was no noodle clumping. Second day, with friends... I wasn't planning on taking up residence, but wasn't about to shoot down a delicious dinner suggestion. Vegetarian Bibimbab and daikon kimchi. Kim chi report--spicy, crunchy, rich and flavourful, again! Bibimbap loaded with gorgeous fresh vegetables, perfect rice and topped with a gorgeous fried egg. Even the bibimbap sauce was rich and flavorful with just a kick. I love spicy food, but not when it sacrifices flavour. Third day, I didn't eat breakfast so hastened to Seoul Food for brunch-- kim chi fried rice with egg, and sweet kim chi cabbage as a side. Another perfectly proportioned and seasoning/heat-proportionate dish. And just enough to fill my belly for hours! I could hardly wait to pause and really relish my next meal there. I didn't pause. I had a late lunch/early dinner today, for my fourth visit!! Back to the chap chae with cucumber kim chi. The chap chae was as good as my brain and tongue remembered (from Tuesday!) and the cucumber kim chi was a crisp, flavorful, refreshing contrast to my delicous entree! There are other vegetarian options, as well. However, the inclusion of avocado rules me out, unfortunately. And nearly anything you desire comes with meat or chicken and it all looks amazing. All the other customers (carnivores and veggies alike) also agreed as we all mmmmed and savoried and shared our joy and impressed-ness with what an amazing job these two have done!
