Turns out we had to go up the stairs to get to the overpass and the hotel is located on that street. Service: There is no housekeeping service. Any extra towel costs money. They nickel and dime you so if you stay here for a long time the charges might add up. They were at least quite friendly on the phone. The check out process was not fast. The staff that was there on our check out day didn't seem to know what she's doing with the guests in front of us. It took her a long time before she could check us out. Decor: It's hip and modern! The elevators are tiny but at least they're there! Our double room was big enough for a bed, a desk, a chair, a TV. We didn't have a closet though, just hooks to hang our clothes. The bathroom was clean and modern, but the lack of shower door caused splashes on the floor (and they won't replace your floor towel for free!) Overall, for the price, it wasn't a bad stay. I'm not sure if all hotels in Oslo are like that. It's just really strange how they nickel and dime you for housekeeping like that.

The exhaust fan and hand wash dispenser in the bathroom was broken and the latter was a problem in a small space. I asked for a backyard facing room as recommended here to reduce noise. This hotel is very central to so much of what there is to do and see in Oslo. It's a 4 minute walk to the train station, the Tram is at the corner, and the ferries are about a 15 minute walk. There are lots of shops and restaurants in the area, one very tasty restaurant is almost right across the street. The breakfast that comes with the stay is an incredible spread for a budget hotel. They have such a wide selection of foods, nothing runs out, and the staff is there promptly to clear away empty plates so there is always a place to sit. It gets very busy, as everyone seems to be excited to eat here. However there are the downsides. For 2 nights during the week, they had group parties that went until late in the evening with loud music in the courtyard. If you're a light sleeper, there is no way you would be able to sleep. The bathroom is the tiniest thing ever. The shower was super small and there was a bit of black in the grouting. But the flooring was heated, a nice perk! They only offered one soap - a multi purpose Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Soap - really don't know how that is possible? They also don't stock washcloths for showers or washing your face. I liked the place, even with the small room, showers and missing toiletries - but the loud music until after midnight was a bit too much for me.

We stayed at the hotel- which was lovely. Tacking the train from the airport to the city center will leave you with a 14 minute walk to the hotel. With luggage this wasn't ideal, we'll Uber moving forward. Once inside it was nice but simple- honestly it's what we expected in Oslo outside of the 4/5 star hotels we have booked for later in the trip. We had a large room which fit two perfectly, and the beds were super comfortable. Free WiFi which is expected in my opinion, and a breakfast Buffett in the morning. I found staff to be friendly and we actually had no issues during our one night stay. I'm not sure if I would stay here for more than two nights based on needing a little more from a hotel room but it's a solid choice. The staff were excellent and kindly accommodated an early check-in, which made a big difference after a tiring journey. The hotel itself could benefit from a light refurbishment in parts, but this is more than balanced out by its many strengths. The location is fantastic, and the top-floor bar offers great views and a relaxing atmosphere. Access to the Lagoon pool and gym is another strong plus. Breakfast was a highlight. The staff were professional and attentive, and the selection of Norwegian food had that distinct, fresh quality that simply feels good--both in taste and overall experience. With views stretching toward the Royal Palace and even glimpses of the fjord, the stay felt special and memorable. Overall, a very enjoyable stay with excellent service and amenities. The train line from the airport ran directly to the Nationaltheatret station. From there, it was a reasonably easy 8-minute walk. The hotel itself was not necessarily what I would call elegant, but it was quite nice nonetheless. The lobby was spacious, warm and welcoming with an interesting fire place structure in the middle. There was a convenience store entrance off the Lobby for good measure. The service at the front desk was polite and efficient. Our check-in and check-out experiences were trouble-free and the time or two that we had questions involved very pleasant interactions with prompt answers. Our room was on the 9th floor affording a nice urban view. I was a little afraid of the size when I booked. Our only experiences to date with Scandinavian hotels in Sweden and Denmark were cramped rooms for very high prices. But we were pleasantly relieved with the discovery that our room was more comparable to American-sized rooms than Northern European rooms. We had plenty of space to feel relaxed. The decor was pleasant and the room was in good shape. The Wi-fi signal was strong and did not fail us at any point during our 5-night stay. The bathroom was clean with all fixtures working as expected. The room was equipped with a refrigerator which allowed us to keep leftovers, minimizing our food costs. The coffee provided was instant, but with the fast water heater that was OK. The hallways were neat and well-kept. We did not take advantage of the pool, but we noticed that other patrons clearly enjoyed that amenity. One of the notable things was the restaurant. I highly recommend booking a room rate that includes breakfast. The restaurant itself had quite a large seating capacity, so even at its busiest we could still find seating. The buffet was fabulous, rivaling many that I've seen in Asia. The hot selections were plentiful with eggs, potatoes, meats, pancakes and more. The bread selection was quite good and the yogurts, fruit, cheeses and greens were all you would want. The local specialty brown cheese was worth trying and became a favorite. The coffee was good as well. The cost was well worth what we received. It helped immensely that we visited in February allowing for us to take advantage of off-season pricing. But this still worked well for us because the weather was not overly cold and most attractions were still open. Our pre-paid rate with breakfast was around $656 including taxes for five nights. At about $131 per night, you really can't beat the value. The fact that we could walk or easily ride everywhere we needed to go made this hotel the perfect choice as an anchor point for our visit to the wonderful city of Oslo.

Of course I must mention the breakfast included is epic! This was also important to us as were were able to save a little extra money by not eating out every meal as Oslo is rather pricey. They have so many delicious options I had to go back a few times just to try more. My top favorites were the smoked salmon and the fresh cold pressed juices. We stayed at a few Scandics and we really liked that they always offer traditional options for that area. We love trying new things and this allowed us to try some traditional fare and be a bit adventurous. The hotel is also closely located to the grocery store if you want to pick up snack foods to save a little extra. Our pro tip if you want to drink in Oslo and not break the bank is to pick up your beer or wine at the grocery store as it is less than half what you would pay at a bar.

He provided us with valuable information about transportation, the city, things to do in Oslo, Sandvika, and talked to us about other great cities to experience around all Norway. He has been a well of knowledge. The hotel itself is easy to access. It is only minutes away from the Sandvika Train station by Uber. It is also quite comfortable and clean. With a contemporary design the building stands out close to the Oslo waters. Once inside, the lobby is spacious, bright, and beautifully decorated with a magnificent marble sculpture. There's also a restaurant where the early morning breakfast is served, and what a breakfast. It consists of a magnificent buffet including smoked salmon, smoothies, omelets, bacon, sausage, and eggs in various other forms, fresh fruits, pancakes with different delicious jams, and so much more, all cooked in front of you my a magnificent team of chefs. The wait staff is also great. They keep the restaurant and the tables impeccably clean, and keep the coffee flowing. Again, their level of service was impeccable. I know it's a cheap hotel, well 65 pounds a night, and therefore it can't compete to a 5 star hotel, but I just can't give this one 3 stars...thought about it...but really can't. Here's why: - There were big dust bunnies on the floor and it was clearly not mobbed. Even a hostel room for much much less money is cleaner and also probably less noisy. - If you sit on the bed, you automatically sit on the slatted frame. Thankfully if you lay down, your body weight equals out so you don't feel it anylonger...pheeew. - Drum roll.....drdrdrdr the breakfast gets delivered TO YOUR DOOR. But I wish they wouldn't have, because that's why they just didn't make it to the 3-star bar. A sandwich and a little bottle of "orange juice" aka "water with a bunch of sugar and yellow colour". I'd also call it German Fanta with no bubbles. I took a picture of the sandwich, which speaks for itself. - The carpets on the floors outside the individual rooms where pretty messy as well. I'll give 2 stars for: - Very helpful and nice receptionist. - Clean bathroom with floor heating system. - Apparently free coffee and tea that I never used. - Latest check-out at 1pm. - Central location. Not a fancy hotel but is centrally located to the tourist sites and located within an older building. Had an economy single twin bed room which was a little small for US standards but fine for 1 person. Front desk friendly (as was everyone I came in contact with in Oslo) and accommodating. Requested a room on an upper floor interior per Rick Steves to prevent any street noise issues and there were none. Room comes with a breakfast bag delivered with sandwich, juice and fruit just outside your door in a bag. I asked to have it delivered @ 530am the morning of checkout so to catch an early train (Flytojet) to the airport and it was delivered as requested :-) I would definitely stay here again when travelling on a budget.
