We were looking for a dinner stop that wasn't a chain and found this gem along I29. The service was great, and the food was delicious! Chips and salsa were delivered to the table along with menus. The salsa was fresh and tasty. Two hot sauces on the table allowed us to adjust the heat as desired. The three enchiladas platter was exactly as advertised. Combination #3 had all my favorites, as expected. The food was prepared fresh, looked and tasted great. We will be stopping here again when we are driving I29 read more

Quaint family run business with amazing food, fast efficient service. I can't emphasize how good their food is. We had lunch specials 2 and 12 - the beef was amazingly tender- I'm not too into beef, but this was amazing... read more

Lean restaurant very nice people the food had absolutely no flavor! The meat had no seasoning, the chicken had no seasoning or flavor, and I don't think anyone in this town understands Mexican food .... Including the owner. read more

In our travels across the United States we were pleasantly surprised to come across this authentic Mexican restaurant. My husband grew up with Mexican cuisine and three hours after our meal he is still talking about how good our food was. He had the chicken burrito and I had the steak burrito. Highly recommend!!! read more

Excellent food, service, and fair prices! Also I had the best pina colada I have ever had! Can't wait to come back!

Tasty margaritas and pina coladas! Food was excellent, accompanied with good service early on a Saturday evening. Chips and salsa were plentiful, warm chips and salsa served in little carafes to serve individually. He had Burrito Rio grande, made with beef tips.... Massive burrito!!! I had Pollo Plancho, which was flattened grilled chicken with fresh mushrooms, caramelized onions and green peppers... topped with white cheese sauce and refried beans. I loved it! A super surprise just off the i29 half way between Omaha and Kansas City. read more

We stopped for a quick bite late in the evening and everything was delicious, they use chicken breast meat for soup and tacos. Soup was a little on the bland side nonetheless we still enjoyed it best by adding lemon and a little salt :) ... Fresh ingredients noted and everything was hot /perfect temperature ! . Waiter was friendly and professional. This restaurant seemed to be a local favorite as it was busy with to go orders and dinning in. Menu has plenty options to choose from; enchiladas, tacos, burritos, soups, salads, margaritas, cerveza , tamales, combination plates and much more. Our order Chicken soup - Chicken Flautas tacos callejeros with rice and beans Everything was tasty ! read more

Nice home town Mexican restaurant. Nice employees and good food. Good prices and nice stop for travelers and all of us locals.

This place is interesting I started off with the chips and salsa. The salsa is spot on it is one of a kind. Then I went to the bathroom. It stinks I think there was some poo stains in the toilet. Then came my entree, I ordered a chicken quesadilla. The didn't really like it. It contained rotisserie chicken and withe American cheese. I ate some tortillas to fill me up. The server asked me if I wanted a sprite I didn't won't one because I was full read more

Food was terrible, if you're on a diet I'd suggest you come here because you won't finish your food. I had a good childhood friend recommend this spot and him and I are no longer friends. Nice and attentive staff though, but horrible food. read more

I've been loving El Maugeys for close to twenty years! I thought I try Senor Barrigas in Mound City,Mo since they share the same Menu. "It was awful" , I ordered two of my favorie dishes,The Del Mar & Carnitas Dinner. It was VERY BAD ! The rice was half cooked & tasted spoiled, the seafood dish was burnt, dry and mostly onions and peppers, had 4 shrimp, tiny burnt scallops with overcooked piece of talalpia. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING! I WILL AVOID the MOUND CITY LOCATION. read more

We came late expecting at best a short, minimally questionable menu. We were greeted and seated immediately with a large menu and chips and salsa. Vibe was cute, menu is better described as 'mexican inspired' than 'Mexican', but we found options. Service was very swift and polite. The Mexican salad was fine. The quesadilla ranchera was probably the best quesadilla I've ever eaten. Stuffed to the brim with mushrooms, and perfectly measured cheese. You could then assemble sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce to your desired proportions. It was truly truly incredible. Utterly shockingly good. read more

Oh so yummy! I'm from Texas so when I say finding good Mexican food outside of Texas is a rare feat- it's true!! However we stumbles on this small town and restaurant and you can judge any mexican restaurant by their salsa and chips and this was authentic!! So small world, turns out it is the same owners of all the Taqueria Aramdas in Houston and Austin! Made perfect sense to me! Fantastic food from the town of Jalisco! read more

Friendly service in this quiet town. The chips and salsa were outstanding. Was deeply disappointed in the carnitas. House specialty and it was bone dry. Barely ate two bites and she didn't ask if anything was wrong. Finished the edible part of the meal (beans and rice) and continued on my journey. read more

In this small town, nice clean restaurant. Had the two tacos lunch. Tacos with ground beef instead of Carne Asada were ok, could use a little more spice. Fajitas had Carne Asada, little more spice. But found here in the Midwest, Mexican food is a little tame. Still, gets thumbs up. read more

We were driving from KC MO back to North Dakota and we saw the good reviews for this place, so thought we'd stop to enjoy a meal on our way and it was a mistake. The place was a little hole in the wall that looked cute on the inside, the servers were very polite, but the food was not good. My daughter had the kids hot dog and the bun was all smooshed, my other daughter had the kids enchilada, which looked fine, but my husband had the carnitas platter which was crunchy and dry, I had the #12, which was a tamale, enchilada and mini chimi, which wasn't too bad except the it was very bland. The salsa tasted like ketchup and the chips tasted old and stale. Maybe we are spoiled because we've traveled a lot and usually hit a Mexican restaurant everywhere we go, but for our tastes, this place was not a hit! read more

Food was amazing, restaurant was beautiful, and the service was out of this world! 100% recommend

Stopped by on our way from Kansas City to Omaha for lunch. It was delicious! My dad had a lunch special with a chile relleno, taco and beans, and I had a delicious dish with eggs cooked in salsa. Will definitely be back when we pass through again! read more
