I was at Walgreens in Mineola and their bus was parked outside. They must bring the elderly there to go shopping. As I was walking to my car I noticed the man ( assuming the bus driver ) helping them off of the bus. I had to actually stop and watch. He was so sweet and gentle to each one that he helped off of the bus. He spoke to every single one of them as he helped them down the steps. It warmed my heart so much I actually called and also told them there. In this day and age, all the crap going on and all the terrible people out there, this was honestly wonderful to see. Especially when you hear that a lot of assisted living facilities lack patience with the elderly. Mostly when nobody is looking. And he didn't think anyone was. That made it even nicer. This man looked truly special and they are lucky to have him as apart of their staff.

It was very clean. The facility she moved to in Florida was not as nice, but apparently Florida is generally less patient oriented than NY. My mother-in-law moved into the Bristal late last year after a bad fall had resulted in a long hospitalization and rehab stint at Parker Jewish, a total nightmare. We were not comfortable letting her return to her own apartment and after a reasonable search had selected The Bristal at Garden City, a new facility that had opened only a few months prior. We can only say one thing. This facility is outstanding. Dina, the general manager is a wonderful person and has assembled a team including John, in charge of recreation, and a chef, whose name I don't know, who has made my mother-in-law's stay thus far to be an easy transition into assisted living. She loves the food, and boasts about all of the staff and how friendly and genuinely interested they are in both her needs and her overall enjoyment. Whether it is the medical team, the front office staff, the housekeeping or the maintenance staff, everyone is overly courteous and nice to both the client and their families. Starting from the initial sales with Tiffany, to the gentlemen who connect the cable TV or caulk the windows, everything is handled professionally and expeditiously without a problem. If you have decided to place your loved one in the hands of an assisted living facility, this is definitely the place for you. Bingo, crafts, word games, movies, socials, educational classes, day trips, they offer enough to make their clients feel that they are important, by continuously engaging them in safe and stimulating activities.

The Sunrise of East Meadow became an extended family to us. The care provided to my father was excellent and they also notified me of any changes in his condition, or medication needed. The staff was compassionate and they all seemed happy to help. This was an experience unlike my father's prior assisted living facility, which looked more upscale and provided better entertainment, but the care was really lacking. At Sunrise, everyone was kind and responsive, from the aides to the nursing staff to the Directors. I am so very grateful to them.

They treated my mom with respect, love, and good humor. The place is clean, has lovely furnishings and decorations (which my mom always liked!), and a good variety of different places for seniors to visit, sit, and walk. There were always fun events planned for the seniors, including parties, concerts, crafts, movies, Bingo, lectures, and more. I loved receiving a daily email from the facility with information about the menu and events so I could remind mom about fun things to do. As the years progressed, mom had increasingly challenging health issues, but the folks at Brandywine scaled up their support and took such good care of her. I was able to go to work every day knowing that she was in good hands. And I also feel that Brandywine didn't just care for Mom, but they were also so supportive of our family at each stage of my Mom's decline - they were kind, caring, knowledgeable, and served as thoughtful partners in my caregiving. I am especially appreciative of Asif in the Wellness Center, Janet in Customer Care, Lisa (one of the caregivers), Jeremy at the front desk (who put up with my constant phone calls!), Toni in the business office, and everyone else whose names I missed. Each time I drive past Brandywine I miss mom, but I am thankful that she was able to spend her final years of life in the care of such wonderful people. This led to late fees with no correction to account. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, both local billing representatives and the manager, who agreed with my figures, never followed up allowing late fees to accumulate. They haven't even offered to remove the late charges for the problem they created. Care is fine, but watch the billing and your loved one's money!

They are doing their life's work. They are not only skilled but are filled with compassion and love. They have unending patience. Two of the extraordinary caretakers were Promise and Rachel but there were many others as well. They could not only arouse my mother out of a stuporous state while she was in hospice to feed her or clean her but they could get her to smile and respond. They brought out the best in her at the worst time. It was like taking care of an infant. The connection that they had with her was nothing short of remarkable. We all end up at the end of life the way we were in the beginning. We are helpless and need angels to care for us. My father died on February 19, 2026 after weeks of a worsening cough and confusion that I…read morerepeatedly reported to the Bristal's contracted doctor and which were repeatedly dismissed. Dr. Jason Ford was largely absent, leaving critical decisions to a nurse practitioner, Jared Newman, while I struggled to get answers for over a month. When my father was finally hospitalized, he had advanced sepsis, pneumonia, and a UTI, all conditions that were missed due entirely to Dr. Ford and NP Newman's neglect and indifference. He died the same day. This was a devastating failure of care, communication, and accountability. Instead of a physical examination, tests such as an EKG and chest X-ray were ordered. Yet I was forced to chase down results myself. I repeatedly expressed my concerns and explicitly requested that Dr. Ford evaluate him. Those requests were dismissed. I was told by Dr. Ford's office to wait until Dr. Ford was physically present at the facility to speak with him, days later and only during a narrow window before he left at 1 p.m. This level of inaccessibility and lack of urgency is, in my opinion, entirely unacceptable in a medical setting, particularly when dealing with a vulnerable, elderly patient with known congestive heart failure. Sylvia Henderson, the Director of Wellness at the Bristal, did not intervene or take any responsibility to check on my father's condition. He continued to deteriorate over the course of a month. (Interestingly, two positive Google reviews of Sylvia were written by her own family members shortly after his passing.) It is difficult to put into words the frustration, grief, and anger that comes from knowing that his painful deterioration and death may have been preventable or alleviated with more attentive, responsive, and physician-led care. I do not write this lightly. I write this because no family should have to beg for a doctor to see their loved one, only to have their concerns minimized until it is too late. The director of Bristal, Gina Young, said "this was not her experience with this medical practice." I was left with the distinct impression that my concerns were not taken seriously.

The activities are wonderful, and it keeps everyone busy for as long as they want. The food is good and the meals are well planned. Wendy the Director is always available to take care of all matters and answer all questions. She is a wonderful compassionate person and they are very blessed to have her there.
