    Smooth Movers

Smooth Movers moved me across the country and thrice more since moving to St Augustine (I think we…read moreare settled now ;) ) and the only thing that got broken was my heart from leaving the old place I loved. Alas, now I love it here. The folks in the office are quick to respond, detail oriented, and the crew took care of my items like they were their own. I'd recommend them to anyone.

I strongly recommend staying away from Smooth Movers. Our experience was anything but a "smooth…read moremove." Smooth Movers sent someone out in advance to look at everything and discuss specifically with the owner what was--and was NOT--to be moved. Based on that visit, an estimate was to be provided. Smooth Movers then decided the job was outside their scope and passed it to another moving company they work with, Stair Masters Moving. The major problem: the information from that in-person assessment was apparently never communicated to the company actually doing the move. I was present on moving day as the owner's assistant, but I had not been present for the original assessment. My boss had personally walked the Smooth Movers representative through the job and clearly explained what he wanted moved and what was to remain. Naturally, we assumed those instructions had been passed along when Smooth Movers transferred the job. Instead, the three movers who arrived had apparently only been told about two desks and a refrigerator--nowhere near the actual scope that had been discussed. Because they did not have the original instructions, items were moved that the owner had specifically said should NOT be moved, and the job took roughly twice the time anticipated. I want to be very clear that the three young men who actually performed the move were wonderful. They worked extremely hard and did a great job with the information they had been given. The problem was the complete breakdown in communication during the handoff from Smooth Movers. What turned an already frustrating situation into an unacceptable one was the response from Gabriel, the owner of Smooth Movers. When I contacted him about what had happened, rather than acknowledging the communication failure or trying to understand how it occurred, he became aggressive, cursed at me, blamed me for the situation, and accused me of trying to blame his company. His manner was shockingly unprofessional and completely inappropriate for a business owner dealing with a customer concern. We took the time to have Smooth Movers come to the property BEFORE the move specifically so the scope could be explained and estimated correctly. If a company then chooses to hand the job to someone else, it is reasonable to expect that the information gathered during that visit will be passed along. Mistakes and miscommunication happen. What matters is how a business handles them. Being cursed at and attacked by the owner instead of receiving even a basic acknowledgment of the communication breakdown was unacceptable. Based on both the failure to communicate the scope of the move and, especially, the way Gabriel handled the situation afterward, I would not recommend Smooth Movers. UPDATE: The owner's response below speaks for itself and, unfortunately, reinforces my concern regarding the way my complaint was handled. Several of his statements about our conversation and the circumstances of the move are inaccurate. I did attempt to discuss a resolution, and I did not behave in the manner he describes. I also find it concerning that he states publicly that the company reviewed recordings of my telephone conversations. I was never informed that my calls were being recorded and never knowingly consented to any recording. I have no interest in engaging in a personal argument. My review was intended to accurately describe our experience: Smooth Movers conducted the initial on-site assessment and discussed the scope directly with the owner, then referred the move to another company without adequately communicating that scope. My complaint was about that breakdown in communication and the manner in which it was handled afterward.

Normally this is something my wife and I would just handle, and maybe recruit some friends...but she was 8 month pregnant at the time and I wouldn't let her pick up anything heavy. So we turned to a moving company. After reading through review for several companies, and excluding ones that weren't available on the upcoming weekend we landed on Jaguar movers, and I'm super happy with our choice. The initial communication with them was very professionally, they gave us all the details we needed, and followed up with any questions we had. On the day of the move both Cory and Waymon showed up a few minutes early, did a walk through of the house, and then got right to work. My wife and I had packed up most of the stuff already but they wrapped up anything that might get damaged in any way. At the new house they were patient while we pointed out where everything went, and were super careful putting things down on the hardwood floors. To top the entire experience off; a very small support piece from an Ikea piece got misplaced in the move and none of use could find it. We looked through the truck and I really feel like Cory and Waymon did a great job looking for it. Even though we couldn't find it, it must have been in the truck somewhere because the next day they drove back to our new house to return it! Overall I was highly impressed with both Cory and Waymon, and Jaguar Movers as a whole, and would recommend them to anyone else looking to move.

I made my hopefully final move into a house and scheduled them for 9am. I called around 9:20 to find out where they were, no one had contacted me. Said there was a personal emergency and it would be 10:30. 11 rolls around, still nothing. I call again because they are not keeping me updated, they finally arrive around 11:30. It took over six and a half hours, constant complaints of how a third guy wasn't sent, they didn't wrap anything other than my tv, and actually broke off some of the brick on my steps at my new place for how rough they were being with my belongings. And after all that.... A 5% discount. Please do not use Jaguar moving. You and your furniture deserve much better.
