This restaurant is run by a friendly husband and wife team where the wife is the cook and the husband runs the front end. The restaurant is very neat and clean. The food here is authentic fresh and delicious. If you want a variety of items, order a Bento. As the photo shows, the bento contains a piece of apple for dessert, a salad with delicious miso dressing, macaroni salad, tonkatsu dipping sauce for the main course, potatoes and carrots cooked in a broth, edamame, sweet egg blocks, bean sprouts lightly cooked in a sweet soy broth, pickled cucumbers and rice with sesame seeds sprinkled on top. The star of this bento is the wonderful pork cutlet. It's so crispy on the outside and so moist and tender on the inside. It's one of the best I've had since my obaasan (grandma) was around. A quick review of the menu and then ordered. Sat down, talked a bit and watched a bit of street food TV which made the 16 minute wait flyby...for what turned out to some excellent food. Very fresh, flavorful and looked great. The wife had R2- Fried Chicken Rice Donburi, our friend had L5- Fried Panko Prawn and I had B8 - Tuna Poke Bento. We are thinking of driving the 75-minute one-way-drive again in a couple of weeks. Sure wish it was closer. Don't pass up this experience if you live in Stanwood or nearby. We stopped for a quick meal after a weekend sports event. We had the Beef Croquette Bento and the Beef Curry with Pork Cutlet. Fabulously cooked and tasty. The crunch was good on the fried food and the sides were delicious. The croquettes were crunchy, fluffy and darn good. The curry was yummy. Just a small hole in the wall restaurant. Everything tasted so fresh and perfectly balanced, from the tender ginger pork to the fluffy tamago and crunchy fresh salad. The bento set was beautifully arranged, and every little side dish felt thoughtful and homemade. The atmosphere was calm and cozy, perfect for a relaxed lunch. The presentation was stunning (almost too pretty to eat!) and the flavors were clean and comforting, just like a home-cooked Japanese meal. The service was warm and attentive without being intrusive. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and was greeted by the owners! My wife and I were delighted to stumble upon this very authentic Japanese restaurant. My wife had the tonkatsu curry which she loved! The flavor were on point with some of the best curries we've had in WA. I had the beef curry on rice which I also enjoyed the small bits of cubed beef. We also ordered the oyakodon which was pretty tasty considering it is mainly rice and eggs. We're from Hawaii, so we know good Japanese food, and Sen is as legit as you can get. My only regret is that they aren't closer to Seattle. We will drop in whenever we're in Stanwood! read more

Well you know what happens when I land in the middle of food heaven I'm going to tell everybody that I have found Nirvana! First of 5 stars is the place is very clean. While you are at the counter you can see the entire place and how clean it is. 2nd the menu is simple and not overly complicated. Your choices are not limited by any means. 3rd friendly folks willing to help you pick out your first meal with them. 4th the place is not so tightly packed with tables and chairs, you can easily move effortlessly through the public space. 5th and by far the very best part of our first meal is the quality of food. I lived in Japan & Hawaii and this is the closest place I have been able to get to being in Japan or Hawaii. I have tried so many places in the last 35 years and have been disappointed by nearly every place. SEN is the best place for Japanese cuisine in the surrounding 40 miles! I'm sure you'll agree that I am the pickiest person when it comes to food. I have no problem paying for great food like this. This is the kind of place you could easily find yourself ordering 4 days a week. The hours are limited . They are open til 5pm On Friday Saturday and Sunday. Closed on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday they close at 2:00pm they are open early for breakfast. I can wait to get myself together enough to make my way there for breakfast in the next few weeks . They have been open a year and sadly I just discovered it a week ago . The few times I've been near the ymca in Stanwood I always mis took SEN for a spa or something like a beauty salon. The food is so good and the value is outstanding. Every single item on my bento plate was fresh and tasty. Husband enjoyed the pork cutlet and the salad was delicious. Am I a huge new fan? Yep! Am I going back sooner than later? Yes I am. Our meal for the two of us including soda and tea was less than a pizza from Sahara pizza. At this time if someone said you have to pick one place in the Camano -Stanwood area to eat at for the rest of your life I would be picking SEN for sure. It really is that good and you all know I'm a hard food critic getting past 3 stars is a challenge getting me to offer up 5 stars is almost impossible. Found this hidden gem recently and I have not had better tasting Japanese food since moving away from Honolulu almost 4 years ago, I love the donburi with pork cutlet, so delicious!! Have been craving good spam musubi since we got back from Honolulu and was really excited to find out this spot opened up for breakfast and lunch! I was in a rush so only got a chance to try the one item for a quick grab and go lunch. The spam musubi was fresh and piping hot, and was ready in 5 minutes from when I called in. I do wish the ratio of spam to rice was higher; I found the bed of rice was a lot thicker than what is normally expected and it overpowered the spam. I also wish the spam was marinated; it tasted like it was heated up but not grilled and lacked any additional flavour I'm used to (soy, brown sugar, mirin, etc). The restaurant itself is super clean and the person working at the register was really friendly. It came with a salad, macaroni salad, mixed veggies, a rice bowl with some salmon on top, spam and eggs. All for $16. I've never had eggs prepared like that and I loved them!
