This is the main attraction of the Bullring for me and the first stop on every trip (and the last as it's the way back to the car-park!). I have been to the Selfridges stores in London and Manchester and although I think the London store is still more elegant and 'exclusive' feeling, I think the Birmingham store is the best for its excellent layout and design. It is more open plan and every thing is easy to find - much better than the London layout! You are greeted with the smell of delicious food from the eating area and there are so many enticing food stalls that it is impossible to resist. I usually go to the Energy bar for a fresh fruit smoothie and a pretzel covered in peppers, onions and melted cheese - naughty but nice! And how could I forget the Krispy Kreme doughnut stand?! The bottom floor's sweet section is also fascinating and I feel like a kid again as I look in awe at the huge array of goodies from around the world. I love the unusual gifts too - Scorpion lollipop / Weasel coffee anyone?? But of course my favourite part has to be the clothes section, where I could spend hours, if allowed, browsing the luxury dresses and shoes and dreaming of a lottery win! I stick to the cheaper contemporary designers mostly and there is always new stock from all my favourite labels, plus that from new designers. Who in their right mind would design a shop that has virtually no windows and curved walls that don't lend themslves to showing off stock and then give up much of the floor space to a gaping mouth of an atrium? Despite this I love the blue slug! Not only is it a daring and iconic design it's a great place to shop and the eat over counters are excellent too. I'd never really thought of Birmingham as a shopping destination even when the Mailbox opened (yawn), that is until Selfridges landed seemingly from out of space in the new Bullring. Now I'll happily travel there to get my designer fix and eat at the noodle bar or indian counter. Oh, and for dessert try that ice cream parlour that my wife and daughter insist on visiting and follow that with a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts (the staff there are really nice) and of course wash that all down with a five mile run. If I has a criticism it's that the mix of stuff downstairs is a bit strange with luggage plonked in a corner and lighting the other side of the noodle bar wall but over all it's got a buzz that other stores around just can't match. read more

I disagree with some of the reviews. Yo cant get lost here. This is tiny when compared to the London one. The escalators are its best features as you gasp in awe with the way they constructed it using an hourglass as a template. The clothes selection varies. I think if you shop at Selfridges you might want to go Manchester and London too as the selection is not consistent across the stores. Some of the goods are overpriced for exmple Ted Baker Suits. They have good doughnut selection but I think thats pricey too. Overall to shop here you do NEED money. I find the staff to be rude and unhelpful. Think they have their head stuck up there backside most of the time. Im talking mainly about the Saturday staff who are probably a bunch of University kids, il give it a 3 star instead of 5 because of service level. Also the decision makers in the store seem to be a bunch of wimps who toe the party line. read more

Selfridges & Co. in Birmingham is situated at one end of the Bullring shopping centre and covers three large floors. The design of the actual shop is brilliant and unlike anything you have seen before well worth a look. It is a huge store selling loads of designer fashions, make up, handbags, shoes and has its own food hall. It is a great shop to go in just for a browse at the sorts of clothes the celebrities wear and if you're feeling flush you may also want to splash out on something designer. Selfridges also has a number of cheaper concessions within the store including Topshop and French Connection so there is something for everyone. It is a great place to find gifts and for high end goods it is however on the expensive side so don't go expecting to find a bargain. A good shop for those people looking for designer labels on the high street. read more

Selfridges is amazing. If ever I have people to stay with us from outside of the area, then this is the place that I have to take them to. It looks absolutely wonderful from the outside and I'm sure it must be world famous by now with all of the thousands of tourists that pass it's way everyday snapping their cameras as they pass. As you walk into the food mall on the lower level, you cannot help but be drawn into it with so many unique and quirky things to choose from. I love the atmosphere in this place and the fact that it is a shopping experience like no other. It is expensive but if it's just once in a while then who cares eh?! read more

Go for the architecture, go for the merchandise, go for the food. Whatever you go for I guarantee you will love this place!. Whatever your age there is something for you here and Selfridges brings new meaning to the words food court. those words would normally strike terror into your heart but realx there is fab food to be had here whether a meal, a snack or a take- away - resist those cakes if you can. Go up the levels and you will find upmarket merchandise for everyone. Stuff you can't find anywhere else. The only thing is you might not want to leave and there is a lot to see in Birmingham! read more

The best department store known to man I believe Is Selfridges in birmingham. Selling everything from sweets (including a life-size bull made entirely from Jelly Beans for £20k!), to clothing to electricals, and even haircuts on the toip floor, Selfridges is a must for everyone who is anyone or perhaps just those who can afford it! The food floor on the bottom has to be my favourite place to eat, and houses culinary delights from the four corners of the globe, and then some. Its a great place for a novelty gift too just dont expect the Scorpion Lollipop to taste delicious!!! read more

An amazing shopping store. The food hall is fantastic, with so much different food to choose from when you are hungry after all that shopping! The ice cream and chocolate stands are something that need to be experienced! Does anyone remember Lucky Charms? They sell all the food you loved years ago that they just stopped selling here. They have all sorts of Oreo cookies and Hershey chocolate from america. They also sell clothes on the other floors which are great if you like designer. read more

I don't know many people who can afford to shop in this place but it is worth having a look for the amazing smells coming from the food court area. (The best bit in my opinion!) We always go in here for cakes and on special occasions are large box of Krisykreme doughnuts. The massive jellybean bull in the sweet area always makes be go and grab something yummy. It is more expensice but the quality of the sweets are definwely better and you know no-ones had their hands all over them! read more

Popular massive department store situated over a number of floors, there is lots of boutique stores in there and also a food store on the bottom which provides all strange and wonderful foods. There is some expensive but also reasonable gadgets, clothes, furnishings etc in there. Big store, big choice and big prices. Some bargains can be found but I love visiting for the food hall in the bottom floor. Monkey picked tea any one? This store is huge it doesnt seem so big but its so easy to get lost in here, the staff are very helpful and make sure you find what you are after. The rails are well stocked and tidy and there is some beautiful clothes. The cafe is a must for the cakes and coffee. Make sure you have plenty of money cause you will want to buy a lot! read more

The building is striking, not sure if I actually like it or not. I did find the layout a bit cluttered & confusing inside, but this may be because I'm used to the far larger London version. Selfridges is a beautiful place to look around, with helpful friendly staff. However it can be very expensive and does get quite busy. Having said that the Christmas section is good value and I got some lovely decorations that were 3 for 2. read more
