Over the 12 months I was a patient of Select Physical Therapy they charged my four times for co-pay that should not have been charged since I had reached my deductible. I have tried for over a year to have their corporate offices issue me a refund. To date all I have gotten is the run around. The corporate offices have acknowledge that they owe me the money but have come up with so many different excuses to why they have not refunded this money. This is $120 and much is less than one visit that I pay each time I have worked with a therapist. It is crazy to me that they would not pay this money back and I have stopped using them as a therapist in the future. Select Medical Corporation (the parent) has received 1 out of 8 favorable reviews at BBB, where it is unaccredited. I am telling everyone I know not to use Select Physical Therapy in Del Mar. I recently wrapped up my treatments at Select Physical Therapy and I could not be more thankful for the amazing team here - I feel like a brand new woman! When I started having extreme pain in my back and legs, my doctor suggested that I go to physical therapy as a way to help control and elevate the pain. At first, I was extremely nervous because it hurt to move my body any which way I turned but after my first session with Carolyn, I knew I was in the right hands. I also knew that some days I would have to push through the pain as it would the only way to truly heal but Carolyn made even the toughest and most painful of days not feel so bad. She came up with exercises and a daily routine that would help to mend my injury and made me thankful to be able to move my body again.. even in the slightest of ways. She is also the sweetest person - Beyond friendly, super compassionate and you just know that she really cares about your progress and doesn't view you as "just another patient" - She is a true gem! The entire team here is amazingly helpful and personable but I also have to give a huge shout out to Marea and Mary as they were also a crucial part of my healing process. Here's to strong and amazing women helping other women!! If you are in need of physical therapy, I cannot recommend Select Physical Therapy enough - and be sure to ask for the above mentioned ladies.. Let me start by saying the physical therapists we've worked with are uniformly excellent. All of my problems with them are in billing. There are two bogus charges on my son's billing statement. There was a therapy session that include an eval that the charge was $534 for, and they are saying we owe $576 for that day. I have spoken to them twice about it. The first time they said it was their fault, they didn't submit proper paperwork to the insurance company and would refile. Then a couple of months later I got the same item on the bill and called them back. This time they said they the insurance company rejected the claim because it was a duplicate of the first claim, but they would call the insurance company and straighten out. I suspect they never did. If they submit the claim to the insurance company they will get only a fraction of the claim, like less than $100. If they make us pay it, they get $534 or $576 (don't understand the discrepancy). I spoke to the insurance company that somewhat corroborated their story. They said there was something wrong with the first claim, and a 2nd claim was submitted. But they say that claim was processed as 'service out of contract' because the claim was submitted with invalid codes! And they said select could probably clear this up easily with them and the person I was speaking to actually tried to call them but nobody at Select picked up the phone. I called select 7 times today including the original person I spoke using her direct line twice, and then the 2nd person I spoke to using her direct line twice, and the general number 3 times. Select Medical Corporation (the parent) has received 1 out of 8 favorable reviews at BBB, where it is unaccredited. That is about to become 1 out of 9. I am telling everyone I know not to use Select Physical Therapy in Del Mar (or any other place) because they are either incompetent or intentionally not resolving our issue, which the insurance company is only too happy to straighten out. read more

If you need help getting well then this is the place for you. The facility is average, but the staff make this place tick. From the front desk to the therapist (Carolyn!) these people care and work to get you healthy. Between the therapist and their aides it seems like I am getting executive treatment not just 20 minutes of attention in an hour. Sandy and Leann at the desk are amazing, and I worked with Larry (who is now at the PB location), Aleeza, and some folks who are no longer there. Larry was terrific to work with weekly, and Aleeza (who is a D.Pt.) was really great, and diagnosed me better than the previous person I was working with there. I have done my pre-op prehab, and now my post-op rehab, at Select with Carolyn. She is thoughtful and caring when listening to the different aches, pains, and questions that I have. She has been awesome at changing technique and treatment to find the best path of recovery for me. It is easy to see that Carolyn cares about the quality of care she gives. The whole team is awesome! From the front desk (Jenn) to the other therapists in the clinic (Amelia and Bennett), they have all helped with flexible scheduling, helping brainstorm care, and creating a welcoming environment. Physiotherapy Associates is where I was referred for Physical Therapy from my orthopedic physician assistant and I'm glad they picked this place. The staff here are very knowledgeable and friendly. From the front desk, Olivia the receptionist was very polite and helpful.. to the physical therapists I highly recommend this place! The main PT I worked with was Adrian and he was very thorough from my first appointment and onward with being a great listener and understanding at my evaluation. I felt he was kind and caring and each appointment I felt improvement and took all his advice. I went through stretching, ultrasound, heat therapy, massage, and did a variety of workouts with the foam roller, lifted weights, and used the pilates reformer board to help strengthen my problem. I also worked with another PT Nicole and she was fab as well. I am still not up 100% and not sure if I ever will be, but I hope to get there using all the treatment advice they gave me. =] read more

Physical Therapists and office staff at this location are very professional and caring but the billing departmenr I believe engaged in fraud. They began sending me bills for random amounts 5 months after services were provided and paid in full. These are unauthorized fraudulent charges. Company cannot explain what "additional services" they are charging for, beyond what was paid in full. I will ask my insurance company to investigate read more

Three months ago I walked into Select Physical Therapy's Carmel Valley facility with 20% functionality due to nerve damage and atrophied muscles in my legs. A thorough assessment was done and a comprehensive therapy plan involving flexibility, strength and balance was created. I'm now at 60% functionality, meaning I need a cane only infrequently and now can climb stairs and get up from the floor. Major accomplishments given where I started from! Aleeza, Marissa and Cheresa, thank you for your right-on-point exercises and your patient but continuous encouragement challenging me to improve. You are always friendly but professional. These guys are totally untrustworthy. We went here for an evaluation and were told that the out-of-pocket cost was no more than $150 but they'd prefer to run the charge (for more money!) through our insurance. Oh, but we weren't to worry, because they promised to ensure we wouldn't have to pay more than that $150 amount as a co-pay. Our insurance bill arrives, and it's $209.16 for the out-of-pocket expense due to Physiotherapy Associates. We call them up, talk to the same woman, and she refuses to lower the cost down to the promised $150 cap. We then quiz her on the cost of various procedures, out of pocket, and get vastly different answers than our first visit. Skip this place. Find someone with some integrity instead. read more

I just completed 7 weeks of physical therapy at Select Physical Therapy Del Mar. From day one their team was 100% attentive to my needs. It's a friendly atmosphere where a handful of experts keep multiple patients involved in various routines throughout the day. I can't find a thing negative to say. I went to see Lisa Lyle at Physiotherapy Associates earlier this year, after having arthroscopic shoulder surgery. I can attest to her skills as a great therapist - my shoulder can thank her as well! Part of getting therapy as you all know, is enjoying your conversation and time with your therapist(I saw here 25x) - and all I can say is that Lisa is a sweetheart, and a pleasure to be around, as well as talented at making you heal faster!! I suspect from peripheral contact that the gentleman in charged of the office, Dana, is extremely knowledgable as well. The staff here - everyone is very knowledgeable and friendly. From the moment you walk in Olivia and Carley always greet you with a smile. My first PT was Nicole who was SUPER! I had to go through surgery for my frozen shoulder and when I when went back I got Jennifer as my main PT. She was tough on me but I got well so FAST. I could not believe it! She was AMAZING!!! I did everything she told me to do at home and more. I am ecstatic!!! Albert is the ONE who makes sure you do your exercises and stretches in the proper form which is really the KEY to success in any training. Plus he really cares about all the patients there. A month ago I walked into this office with severe pain and numbness from a bulging disk in my neck. My neurosurgeon referred me to Select physical therapy but he didn't want to get my hopes up that this would replace surgery. But thanks to the commitment of my PT, Aleeza, she has helped alleviate all of the pain and has taught me the proper exercises and stretches to help me feel better than I have felt in years. My teenager was referred to Select Therapy after sustaining some sports injuries. Haley is a very professional and knowledgeable OT who is also a certified hand therapist. Aleeza is also a very skilled PT who is used to dealing with high school athletes. My son was so impressed that he never complained about going, which is quite remarkable. I have worked in rehabilitation for many years and was also very impressed with these ladies' skills. The location is conveniently located in Carmel Valley with plenty of parking. I have been taking my 84 year old mom to the therapist Nicole Anderson, for back and knee pain. She has helped my mom physically and mentally. Giving her ways to relieve her pain through stretches and light workout to build strength. During my observation of Nicole she is friendly,knowledgeable and truly loves helping people. Very Thorough on initial assesment for my neck and back issues but it ended there unfortunately. Gave me a few exercises to do as home work but nothing really new that I couldn't figure out myself. Also didn't spend much time with me during subsequent visits.... she stayed with previous patient longer and then left early to work with another patient after working a little on me. I was a long time skeptic of physical therapy, but I tried so many things before to get my foot to feel better (I had plantar fascitis from playing sports.) Let me tell you that this place had the best customer service and the nicest staff. My physical therapist was Shannon and she did wonders to my foot with constant motivation, exercises, and foot massages. There were times when I would go in right after work and my feet were really smelly (I told her that too and told her I would wash my feet before she decided to work on it, but she insisted that they weren't smelly at all.) Because of Shannon and the staff I was able to play tennis and basketball again without quitting early due to the foot pain. You will not find a better physical therapy clinic than this in San Diego! read more

Not sure why Yelp filtered out three other 5-star reviews - their filtering system is a mystery to me. The 3-star average rating out of 2 reviews is just not fair. Anyway, I am working with this location for the 3rd time now, and I have to say that every time I have been satisfied with their service. The first time was a shoulder problem; 2nd time finger and 3rd time sprained ankle, all due to sports injuries. Each time I worked with a different therapist, but all are competent and courteous professionals. Each time I experienced significant improvement (this 3rd time, just one session so far but already seen promising results). I had a power tool accident and lost my thumb plus had a lot damage to the rest of my had. I've had three surgeries and I have had over 8 months of rehab. Leslie Aoto the had therapist is absolutely amazing! She is warm and funny but will also push you way beyond where you ever thought you would be able to go. I've been serviced by Physiotherapy Associates on two different occasions; once for a back problem and currently for a knee injury. I have nothing but rave reviews for them. Don't know what the other reviewer had go wrong with insurance but that doesn't speak to their staff of professionals...every one of them. I have had Lisa Lyle work with me both times. She is AMAZING!!! What do you want from physical therapy? To get better. They work you. If you want to get better, you want to work yourself and do your exercises the way they give them to you. It's a two-way street. My back is 100% now and the knee is on its way. Nothing bad to say here...other than they will want to "chat" with you a little more than I would like...you can either engage or not. read more
