The Selby Police station moved from New Lane where the court houses are now to their new building about twenty years ago in the mid eighties. The building is a modern building with a smallish reception area for you to report any issues that you may have. Due to recent cut backs the Selby police station now closes at tea time. This is not popular with Selby residents who feel a large market town needs the security of a 24 hours service. In addition if people are arrested at night they are taken to York Police station. If you need to call the police station during the day you are automatically directed to the York Police station, where you would have to then ask to transfer you to Selby.

There is a car park opposite for easy parking. Like most library's Selby offers a wide choice of facilities such as computer and Internet courses, reading clubs and toddler groups, Language courses and family history. But also offers the traditional things you would expect from a good Library such as a wide range of reading and reference books, study areas, newspapers and music CD's. But summing up i would say, Selby Library is successful not only to the resources but also due to its well trained and friendly staff. Oh and I don't work for them and nor does my Mum :)

As a library, there are better such as Yorks large collection however it suits its purpose within the community and does its best with the facilities it can offer.

The Town Hall building was built in 1862 and was the Methodist church for many years. In the 1950's it was sadly sold off to become a tyre depot (not sure what people were thinking) until the council realised its beauty. After a major restoration the Town Hall opened its door as a conference rooms, The Town Councils Offices, and a flexible place for theatre productions, music and bands and even the cinemas with a portable screen. Workshops and youth events are held regularly. The Town Hall is subsidised by the Arts Council England that enables them to stage big name acts. Many local and big name bands have played at the Town Hall, I'll list the events as they come up :)

East Common Post Office & KeyStore is located on Barwic Parade opposite Barwic Parade School, on…read morePetre Avenue. The Post Office and KeyStore convenience store and newsagents has recently changed hands, much to applause of the local community. The new owners are family run and are friendly and polite. The store is in the middle of updating. The new owner ran Better Butties on Denison road that had a great reputation for quality take-away hot and cold snacks and sandwiches. Within the Post Office & KeyStore there are two Post Office counters; a fair sized general store, with freezer cabinets and fridges for fresh food. Hot pies and pasties are sold at lunchtime with the introduction of Hot sandwiches and salads in the future.

Brayton Post Office is located in the small village of Brayton on the Don caster Road. There is…read moreonly two parking spaces outside the post office followed by double yellow lines. Be careful as tickets are often issued! The post office has two counters and although small caters for the locals needs. There is a convenience shop with the post office that offers an extensive range of foods. You can find all your basics like bread, spuds, eggs and milk as well as fresh foods. There is a wide range of magazines and comics for the children and a couple of freezer cabinets and chilled counters too. Local papers and magazines can be delivered from this Post Office. The staff are friendly.
