Everything about it was great. I do wish we could have seen up stairs but it was in available. The swan boats were also unavailable. The parts of the house that were open were great. The back terrace was great. The bird house was really the best part of my day. You also can feed the farm animals if you choose. A lot of things to do for all ages.

Love this place ideal for family days outs and if you are on your own lots to do especially visiting the museum it's awesome and good sight seeing ventures :-)

Heritage is one thing our great city doesn't lack in and that can most certainly be said about the grand Harewood House. It's a terrific example of architecture and design and pulls thousands of people from around the world to see it's grand design. It was built in the mid-18th century and has magnificent interiors by Robert Adam, furniture by Thomas Chippendale and paintings by JMW Turner, Reynolds, Titian and El Greco, among others. An Italianate Terrace, designed by Sir Charles Barry, stretches along the South Front of the House and provides exceptional views of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's landscape and lake. But it's appeal doesn't stop there. The frequently changing exhibitions allows even the most seasoned visitor something new to peruse and the garden is overseen by one of the best in the business. You can enjoy one of the many splendid walks (highly recommended to blast away those Sunday cobwebs), taking in all the stunning landscape or simply sample some tasty treats in the cafe area. Their events are mightily impressive too. You can expect to see many top draw concerts, featuring artists such as Will Young and Girls Aloud in the past. Or if you want something a bit more serene, they have outdoor opera and classical concerts throughout the warmer months. I love the drive-in sessions too, recreating my own version of Grease and imagining the T-Birds will rock up some time soon. It really has a lot to offer and if that lot doesn't whet your appetite maybe one of the many car rallies, kite festivals or animals shows will. After all, if it's good enough for Noddy and his friends then surely it's good enough for you.

It also contains canal gardens and Tropical World, a favourite among primary school children across Leeds thanks to its butterfly house and aquariums. The park itself is beautiful and a perfect place to lose a few hours wandering on a sunny afternoon, to take a picnic, go for a run or walk the dogs. There are events held in the park across the year (including the recent, and new for 2016, North Leeds Food Festival - if they run it again this one is well worth looking out for). Other spots worth investigating are the cricket oval and tennis courts as well as the Monet Garden, which was inspired by Claude Monet's garden at Giverny. That said, just exploring the park aimlessly is likely to bring you across so many interesting and beautiful spots that it almost seems a shame to visit with a particular goal in mind. Especially if you're likely to have many opportunities for return visits.

Walking up to it you're surrounded by green and then there are a load of tree's that seperate so you can walk through them towards the house and grounds, it was like something out of a postcard. When we actually got to the grounds we were stumped on where to go first! Do we go into Temple Newsam House OR do we head towards their little farm OR do we wonder around their 1500 acres of woodlands, fields etc!? Spoilt for choice We started off with the house itself. Prices for a family tickets (2 adults & up to 3 children) are: Temple Newsam House: £9.50 Home Farm: £8.70 Joint Ticket: £15.50 The house is magnificent! You are asked not to take photo's. This is because of the flash as the light and heat can damage pictures etc, it can cause a chemical reaction. I did take a few pictures, but made sure my flash was OFF as not to damage anything. You have a choice of walking around the house reading bits and bobs, or you can use these handheld blocks where you punch in the number per room and a recording will guide you through the room and explain. There are also children's versions of this. We all got confused by it so we opted out lol. Had a little laugh as there is a picture of a man near the picture gallery and he was a spitting image of my father - didn't take a photo of this. Despite it being so big and perhaps a bit dull for children, our children loved it and were full of questions that we tried to answer. They were excited about going into different rooms and their favourite room was the 'nannys room' where they had modern toys for children to play with. We then headed towards the farm. I will be honest with you, I didn't like the farm as much as I would have normally - perhaps it was because of the weather? I would have liked it to have been a farm where we could feed the animals too because places such as the barns with cows, they only had 1 large bucket of this protien stuff which meant that only the biggest cows had managed to get to it (would YOU try and squeeze inbetween 2 fully grown cows!?) and so the younger smaller ones had no chance - perhaps later in the day they would?? :( . One was even eating the straw on the ground which was covered in 'you know what', so I didn't like that bit. The highlight of the farm was that we saw piglets being born! That was amazing! The grounds are huge! As I've already said, all of this is within 1500 acres of land and they have woodlands you can explore which we didn't have time to get to, so it's deffinately an all day trip or perhaps even 2 days. I would go again, although I wouldn't pay for the farm again.

The farm staff are really lovely, they are obviously really passionate about their jobs and it shows with how informed they are on the animals and their care and how they are happy to chat to people about it. Prices are good, there is a little cafe, and a gift shop too, and loads of totally free parking, and bins, which is good as there are a lot of picnickers in the area in summer time. It's so nice to have and to see something so traditional only 15 minutes or so from Leeds city centre and one of the reasons I love living in Leeds, the varied amounts of things there are to do. It's a perfectly pleasant place to spend a day wandering around very nice gardens, especially if you can do so with great friends (as we did). BUT... It's not really my idea of a castle. It's like an old fashioned three-up/three-down tenement, but without neighbors who earn as much as you. That said, if you are of a particular temperament and don't have young children with you, the guided tour of the house is detailed, exacting, and informative. However, if you are not of that temperament (e.g. you suspect that the tour is somewhat designed to aggrandize the history of the family who have owned the house for 700 years, and that not every detail of their lives is as fascinating as the guides apparently believe), you may find yourself highly irritated and amused. And if you do have small children with you, avoid the hour+quarter tour altogether. The castle offers a children's tour on occasion -- it was at 1.30pm when we visited...and which we missed -- so it could be that this complaint can be well managed. The castle grounds are truly lovely, though, and make for an excellent walk. There is a deer park on one side of the castle and despite seeing much evidence of their existence ("Deer poo!" the children yelled happily), nary a deer made an appearance. Bah. Ripley Castle reminded me of many of the stately homes to which I was dragged as a child, replete as they were with historic import and puffed up self-importance. And that's not necessarily bad. England needs this kind of thing -- really. If it were gone, I should miss it horribly, and being able to visit -- and leave -- is a nice reminder of the things that the country has built, enjoyed, used, and left behind. Plus, there's a lovely ice cream shop just down the road!

On our last visit we tried the cafe and really wished we hadn't as we experienced the worse coffee and tea we have encountered for many a year (and it certainly wasn't priced to reflect the poor quality). So my advice. If you are out that way it's a nice place to stop and relax but take a flask!

The store itself is laid out like an art gallery with relaxing white space with which to adorn the artwork - perfect for maintaining an uncluttered feel with such a variety of artists on show. There is the main space on the ground floor and a further gallery down the narrow stairs. The lady who was working when I popped in was absolutely lovely, she was really friendly and talkative about the shop, but didn't push to sell me anything which I always appreciate. The art itself was wonderful and diverse, from the kitsch cutesy cow art by Caroline Shotten, to the modern pop-art stark portraits of Simon Claridge, to the bold graffiti art of Ge Feng there was something for everyone. My difficulty is that I could have purchased all of their pieces, since diversity is what I like best, however at around £400+ per painting I simply couldn't afford to be impulsive. I certainly don't think that it is overly expensive - art is quite often underpriced and undervalued, but in my current state of pauperdom I would have to really fall in love to make such a spend.
