I can get lost in a book for days, if anybody tries to talk to me while I am reading all they will get out of me is a glare, I should wear a do not disturb sign. The fact that you have to give them back after you have read them doesn't matter as you just go and pick up a new one. Set in a lovely building it has that musty smell that all good libraries do, a mixture of dust and knowledge. I have been going here for months and there are still many titles that I am planning to read. They also have a great service where you can renew you books over the phone; you may never need to pay a fine again. Libraries are also the hub of any community and a really good start for getting involved with the people around you.

I'm personally not a huge reader, but I'm sure this will be great for a book lover. When you go in, there are lockers on the side where you haven't got a choice but to lock your bags and jackets away. I was told pictures are allowed (though 1 said yes, the other said no, and had a quick discussion about it). The area that I did go into, was a bit smaller but still neat to look at, though I think there's a much bigger / lavish area. Also, I was told that there was a section which just looks beautiful (like the Harry Potter library, as he said!). There was a section where it looked like you can only enter with a keycard. It was really quiet in the library, and i really regret NOT asking, as I'm sure what was behind the door was this harry potter like reading room and library that I was looking for! Maybe if you ask nicely, you can take a peek? So, NO, i didn't get to see the room of these pics that I've posted up. Not sure how you get in there as I mentioned, it looked as if you need special permission to be in there. Apparently, there are lots of original works housed at this library, including plays. For a £25 membership, you can BORROW these original works. Kinda crazy!!! I'm giving it 5 stars, because, I know the beautiful room is hiding within, maybe another visitor can check it out and see if they've made it behind the doors to that beautiful library room?!

A great large iconic building with so many floors and resources, this was a real library. All kinds of colourful characters would visit. Students, professors, retirees, vagrants, and families would be here. The ground floor inremmebr where people would scavenge for the daily newspapers. And all fiction books where I would get my first taste of Stephen King. Can tee had homemade sandwiches plus snacks and jacket potatoes were good and affordable. But the 5th floor was my spot. The reference floor where students would come and study. With its large tall windows bringing great light into the building and vast views of Bradford City. Such a shame this building is no more. I don't live in Bradford anymore but memories still linger and there will always be a special place of this library in my heart.

But its facilities are pretty cool: all your fiction, reference and research needs are catered to. There are regular library sales which are both cheap and eclectic, great for picking up some intriguing vintage bargains (that look cool on your Ikea bookshelves). Multiple floors, decent loos, nice and warm in winter and a ton of info available on local news and events, a good children's section and that great retro 70s architecture. Pretty damn good if you ask me.

Lots of those cute blue and orange vintage Peacock and Penguin paperbacks, quite a lot of foreign language novels for enthusiastic linguists, and most of it for 10p a go! Some of the more mainstream stuff, e.g. the type of novel you'd find in Smiths, is more expensive. But I can get that kind of thing in any charity shop in any case, so why bother. The building itself is a cute little old place - I know nothing of architecture but it's got a very 30s/Victorian vibe, tiny little windows, and nice friendly librarians. (Although the counter is set out rather haphazardly and it's difficult to work out where you're supposed to be served). Still, worth a visit.

During the school holidays they also have colouring and drawing competitions for the kids too. Also free access to the internet with plently of computers which can be booked. Also you can pick up the local free paper and lots of leaflets and posters to find out whats going on in the local area too. Also you can pick up a Leeds card from Compton road too and get great discounts like free entry to tropical world.

I was expecting a big modern sign pointing me in the…read moredirection of the Chapel Allerton library (as in Headingley) but could not see one anywhere so asked a little old lady to point me in the right direction. She pointed over to what I thought was the old police station, now a curry house. But I wandered over and there it was, hiding in its original form behind an old 'public library' sign that you can see in the photo. Thankfully it has not retained its old fashioned persona on the inside. The welcome sign is in seven languages, reminding me how multi-cultural this area is. It is a small, organised and quiet library, with neat displays of the latest fiction and lots of information about events going on in the community. There was a sign up advertising the library reading group and even a rack full of bus timetables. For me, this library is more manageable than the city library, which is so large one could get lost.

It might not be the largest source of books in…read moreLeeds, it is of a modest size, but it is a great community resource and is perfectly situated in the centre of Chapel Allerton. They do more than just lend books, they occasionally hold community events, such as Irish dance workshops and bodhrán (which is an Irish drum) workshops for children, the elderly and anyone else who will join in. With this sort of cultural resource on offer to the community there is no where better to go and borrow a book - if you're lucky, there might be something more exciting going on too!

The Huddersfield University Library is the biggest library in the Huddersfield area. It is not only…read moreopen for students, but also to any member of the public that pays a small fee annually (and it really is worth it). The library has 6 floors, with hundreds books on any subject. It also has magazines, newspapers and scientific journals that are boring. The library offers a number of bureau services such as laminating and binding. As a student you also have access to PCs and iMacs. There is also a wireless network for all you laptop nomads. This is for sure a very interesting place, where you can spend hours.
