The building and surroundings are absolutely stunning. Not at all like the cold hospital atmosphere of most other assisted living facilities we visited. It is more like a grand, ornate mansion for the wealth. My mom like being there so much that she said she should have moved there a long time ago. It was like always being on vacation. She absolutely loved the place. The staff made extra effort to make sure she was well cared for. She loved all of them and you could tell they loved her too. When she first moved in she had to be hospitalized for pneumonia and Nicole became her advocate using her contacts to make sure she was getting proper care. My mom thought the food was terrific. I know it's very subjective but she did gain about 25 pounds while she was there. If she didn't like what was on the menu they would make here something she liked. She was especially fond of the deserts. There was always something going on. She loved bingo, exercise with Norma , chair yoga, art, and dancing at cocktail hour. I told Nicol to save a room for me when its my time.

They have continued to impress me with the care they give to the residents and immediately embraced us as part of their family. The owners are always available and go above and beyond to advocate for whatever is in the best interest of the residents. They are accommodating and unlike any other facility I've ever been to. Food is delicious and we are always welcome to pop in and join dad for dinner. He's made friends and after nearly 50 years in the same home, has made this his new home- a huge relief to his family and friends! The only way that happened is because of what the team at Colonial does everyday!

Zero stars…read morefor the way the owners of the company charge for an extra thirty days after my mother has died. We would have placed her there even if we had seen the fine print - thirty days' notice regardless of whether the patient dies - but when he went to do final paperwork and take out her things the day after she died, my father made the cruel discovery that they will keep over $8,000 of his $10,000 security deposit. We thought that the fee was surprisingly low, but now I see that they can afford to charge what they do and make up for it by taking money for deceased residents for thirty days.

While being placed on "Medicaid Pending" back May 1, 2018 (and they were informed in March that we were applying to Medicaid for my mother-in-law who is 89), when Medicaid was recently finally approved, they said they will not accept the Medicaid money because they do not have a Medicaid bed and and we personally will have to pay them from May 1st. How can that be??? Why would you not tell someone in May or March when we advised them that there was no Medicaid bed and go somewhere else that has a Medicaid bed before you apply. This is underhanded. We do not have thousands of dollars to pay them when Medicaid is waiting for the final bill so they can pay them from May 1st. They took my mother in for years for private pay but now that the poor woman with no memory or money left at all is approved for Medicaid to pay, they want to throw her out and not take the Medicaid money from when she applied. This is a heartless business.
