In my situation, I was having issues with a collector that was harassing my wife and I day and night over the course of years in an effort to try to collect an invalid debt. Even the company to whom I supposedly owed the initial debt to agreed it was erroneous, but the debt had already been sold. In any case I knew my rights but didn't think I had any actual recourse. It got to a point where they started up with their chest-thumping litigious nonsense on an already bad day for me and I retained Mr. Clapp as counsel to put an end to it. Though I initially saw the words "bankruptcy lawyer" and overlooked him, the problem fell within his domain and thus I have absolutely no regrets about hiring him. During our scheduled appointments, he was courteous and professional, and well-versed in all aspects of this particular field of law (credit law? I don't know what it would technically be). Unlike some of the other attornies I talked to, his office didn't look like Saul Goodman's-- it was clean, modern and professional (some places I went to were just dingy and gross-- I don't tolerate sloppiness from someone who might have to represent me in court). Anytime I had a question, he had an answer, or got back to me with one shortly, and even managed to fix a few other minor issues I was having that other attornies I had talked to said was either impossible or something I would have to do on my own. A few sternly-worded letters from Mr. Clapp put an end to this particular collector's campaign of harassment, and the few times I've had follow-up questions in terms of mitigating the damage done to my credit by this collector, he has been more than helpful. Red flag 2 was no one went over any of the creditors that sent in filings. I looked at the list and didn't recognize half the accounts being paid on. I was told after the fact there was nothing I could do. Covid happened and we ended up having to move and my wife had to get a different vehicle. Our rent increased $700 per month & her car payment was $400. We were somehow expected to maintain that payment. Literally no help from them. I fell behind twice as we simply don't make enough to cover bills, kids college, etc. I found out my case was dismissed, not from my attorney but from a letter from a different lawyer. Upon actually moving forward with the bankruptcy was totally different. After paying the initial paymen, I never heard anything back. O called and left a message that no one responded to I just received an email a few days after leaving a voicemail. From that call Lorena said that she would email what she needed then file my case. That never happened.
