So much so that they chose the venue for a privately catered family function. The dining room is very cozy, with all wood floors and walls, and the cuisine is rustic Berlin home cooking. During our brunch, we enjoyed a buffet table of roast pork with pineapple sauerkraut, steamed potatoes, potato dumplings and a chopped salad with fresh dill. As cold appetizers, we had smoked salmon, local smoked river fish, fruit, cheeses, caviar deviled eggs and the most amazing, steaming whole grain bread rolls. Desserts were good but not great. The crowd favorites were an apple cake with a solid crust on top and chocolate mousse. The lemon mousse and cheese cake were good but had a slightly artificial lemon flavor. Coffee is strong and hot. P.S. Mom says they make the best French fries in town.

Even though my friend and I didn't know any German the staff helped explain the different menu items and even gave great suggestions on deserts. I had a delicious variety of fresh fruits, sliced meats, cheeses, bread, and the pairing of mozzarella, tomato, and basil. I've never eaten a more satisfying breakfast in my life! My friend got the vegan platter which was also super yummy (even though I'm not a vegan I enjoyed the platter as well). Both dishes were fresh and flavorful and the desert was to die for! I got a lemon cake that was just the right amount of tart and sweet. My friend got the chocolate cake and she says that's the best cake she's ever eaten and she's super critical of her chocolate cakes so I trust her. The atmosphere was so homey and cozy we literally talked for 3 hours and had no idea that much time had passed. The prices are great for the quantity and quality of food you buy. I highly recommend to anyone in the area and we will be stopping by here again!

The setting is decidedly Instagrammable with neon signs, reclaimed wood furniture, and wildflower centerpieces. Service is always quick and very kind. Best of all, though, is the free and unlimited Wifi that makes this cafe a great place to sit and get some work done, especially with other like-minded students from HTW just up the river. If you're not trying to concentrate on your laptop, the Kranhaus is also a great spot to relax with a snack and their chilled out/classy-feeling Jazz playlist. Best of all, it's located in the base of a crane that used to unload cargo for the factories along Wilhelminenhofstraße, so you get an interesting mix of history in the space. The downsides are that the furniture is a bit eclectic and can sometimes be uncomfortable, especially to sit at with a laptop, and sometimes it is difficult to locate a outlet to charge up. That being said, it's often easy to find a place to sit and let the afternoon go by. Thank you Kranhaus for helping me maintain my sanity.
