Around 11pm last night my brother and i were unable to get out grandfather who is dying from bone…read morecancer safely back into his bed after assisting him onto his bedside commode to use the bathroom. Our grandfather is a hospice patient.... however hospice apparantly does not like to answer the phone after certain hours. After waiting on hold with hospice for around 10min my brother and i decided we needed to call 911 to get assistance from emergency response teams because obviously we needed to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. The fire department arrived about 15min after we placed the call. I was waiting at the end of the driveway to assure they came to the correct address to avoid any more delays. I was surprised at how slowly the response team moved. Not only did they take their time exiting the fire truck.... but when they finally made it into our residence they stood looking confused and annoyed at our frail grandfather on his knees on the floor with his head on the bed. My brother and i carefully explained how to lift him without damaging the pick line iv in his right upper arm, and while one person lifts his upper body, another person lifts and carefully lifts his legs at the same time to position our frail grandfather in the middle of his hospital bed. The 3 confused firemen scratched their heads and looked at one and other. Brother said "this is how we usually lift him showing" once again the confused 3 firefighters . Then 1 of the confused 3 rudely said " then why dont you help?" My brother has thrown his back out from the countless times lifting our grandfather to and from his bed the last 2 months.... obvious we would not have called for assistance if we could have resolved this matter ourselves!!! Needless to say my brother still ended up having to help lift grandpa with one other fireman while the other 2 stood there obviously annoyed with the situation.
I am appalled with the fact that these men are supposed to be well respected members of our community that dedicate their lives to saving and assisting those in need!!! Humboldt is a joke already with the fact that not many people take pride in anything but the great weed they can grow... is that all we are good for?? Apparently that is it because look around and see how many people take pride in the appearance they present, or the customer service that they provide our community with.
Chivalry is dead, does anyone even notice?
