I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Sedgwick during a recent medical emergency that required me to take Medical Leave under the Family and Leave Act (FMLA). My experience with this organization has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I feel compelled to share my story with others. On September 30, I got married and began a pre-planned vacation with my wife, scheduled from October 2 to October 6. While on vacation, on October 5, I started experiencing excruciating abdominal pain that ultimately led me to the emergency room. Subsequently, I was admitted to Northside Medical Hospital for a severe ulcer in my stomach, loss of consciousness, and constant blood vomiting. It took me some time to regain my strength from all the blood loss. Upon my discharge from the hospital, I was informed by my healthcare provider that I was medically fit to return to work. I promptly initiated the process of providing the necessary documentation to support my return to work and contacted Sedgwick, the company responsible for handling FMLA leave. Here's where the nightmare begins: Despite providing all the required medical documentation and my doctor's approval, I have been consistently informed that my documents are "pending review," with no indication of when this prolonged process will finally conclude. This has raised serious concerns about the delay in receiving my paychecks due to the protracted delay in my return to work. To make matters worse, my interactions with my assigned case manager were nothing short of distressing. Despite uploading all the necessary medical documentation, this case manager insisted that I needed an additional "return to work" document because the previous one had apparently "expired." This left me flabbergasted, as the delay in obtaining this document was entirely due to their drawn-out review process. In an attempt to find some resolution, I requested to speak with the case manager's supervisor. However, despite the assurance of a callback, it never materialized. This blatant lack of professionalism and disregard for my concerns is simply unacceptable. Over the past few weeks, I had made numerous calls to Sedgwick inquiring about the status of my claim and whether I would receive payment for the time I was unable to work. The frustrating part was that every time I contacted a Sedgwick agent, I would ask them about my eligibility for payment, and every time, I was met with evasive responses. I was repeatedly told that my case was "pending" and that I should seek answers from my case manager. However, the truth finally came to light during my call to Sedgwick yesterday. To my utter dismay, I was informed that I would not be paid for the days I was unable to work during my medical leave, and the reason for this was a waiting period of 7 days. During these 7 days, I was expected to use my personal time off to cover the loss of income. Only after these 7 days would I be eligible for payment, and that payment would only cover two days of approved leave - October 16 and October 17. Every day of my absence from October 17 onwards would go unpaid. The agent further explained that to be considered for back pay, I would need to create an additional claim extension supported by documentation showing that I am still under a doctor's care and require weekly visits. However, even if I were to comply with this requirement, my care team at Kaiser could only provide one doctor visit per month, making it impossible to meet this criteria. It was infuriating to learn that this information, which could have made a significant difference, was intentionally withheld from me until it was too late for me to act upon it. I requested to speak with a manager to address these grievances, but to my dismay, the manager simply reiterated the same information. I expressed my frustration at being denied the opportunity to return to work earlier, as there is concrete evidence of my ability to do so via faxed documents. Yet, my case manager seemingly never received these crucial documents, setting me up for failure from the start. My experience with Sedgwick has been characterized by a shocking lack of transparency, evasive communication, and a disregard for my financial well-being and peace of mind. The situation could have been entirely different had I been informed of the specific requirements to secure back pay in a timely manner. This situation has led to substantial financial stress and undue anxiety, all of which could have been avoided if Sedgwick had simply handled my case efficiently and professionally. In sum, my dealings with Sedgwick have left me deeply dissatisfied, and I wholeheartedly advise anyone in this organization's services to look elsewhere. I had the worse experience interacting with Sedgwick. In my opinion they are incredibly unprofessional. I was in a simple collision where I was hit from behind while I was stopped in traffic but it took them approximately 10 months to settle my claim even though I didn't request any compensation for any injury. I told them I was injured but they blew me off. I was injured but I didn't push it because I am a busy person and I just wanted the claim resolved quickly. Unfortunately, my injury didn't just go away like I thought it would and I was in pain for months. I had to drive around a vehicle with collision damage for approximately 6 months because they wouldn't pay for the repairs until it was determined that they were liable. Then they initially refused to pay for underlying damage that the repair shop found and I had to make multiple trips to the repair shop with seemingly nonstop back and forth arguing with the company just to determine whether they would pay for the repairs even after they accepted liability. After I complained that the money they were offering for a rental wouldn't cover the rental costs, the adjuster Peggy Lange took off rental car coverage. Eventually, they agreed to pay for the damage to my vehicle and for my rental but it was like pulling teeth every step of the way. Finally they told me to get the rental and that I would be compensated afterwards. I paid for the rental out of my own pocket and then they refused to pay me back for it like I was promised. My insurance company had to send them demand letters just to get my rental covered from the time that my car was in the shop even though I got the cheapest rental car available. I didn't get my money back until at least several months later. They were incredibly unhelpful and rude throughout the entire painful ordeal. They assigned me some claims adjuster named Peggy Lange that was incredibly rude and unhelpful. I had to call her over and over again leaving voicemails and emails but I couldn't get her to call me back or help me. I asked my insurance carrier to try to get in contact with her many times but they kept telling me that they hadn't been able to make contact with her. I would ask Peggy questions over email but she either blew my questions off completely by telling me to read through previous emails or that she wasn't going to tell me or she would just not answer at all. Sometimes, I got responses from her that didn't seem to address what I asked in my email and if I pointed out that she didn't answer the question or at least she didn't answer the question in a way that I in any way understood she would be rude and not clarify or answer anything. In one case, she told me that she would take off the compensation for a rental but that she would call the rental car company and make a reservation. I asked her if by making a reservation that meant that they were going to pay the bill or was she telling me in so many words to F*** myself. She never gave me a real answer even though I sent her multiple emails asking for the answer to the question. Obviously, I'm not going to get a rental unless I know that I'm going to be covered. She also repeatedly sent me certified letters in the mail saying that since they hadn't heard from me that they were going to close the case but I had been calling and emailing trying to get some response from her. I also spoke with several supervisors there on several occasions to try and get some help but I eventually had to go with another insurance carrier to handle the claim since Sedgwick refused to do anything but ignore me. This company, Sedgwick, has incompetent staff, who "specialize" in being just that along with rude, arrogant, and have "mistake driven" EGOS who act without legal authority...who never identify any legal authority or statute (in any format) as a basis for their baseless analyses. Sedgwick's LAUSD Dedicated Unit is merely dedicated to Sedgwick's bottom line--dollars at all costs. Kevin Oliphant, the "Operations Manager/Director of Claims" is especially rude, arrogant, and insulting who specializes in "incompetence" and re-writing history, ignoring a Court Order...Glenda Bunting is just as bad as Kevin Oliphant. Glenda Bunting is also no better than the supremely incompetent Erin Lebel who might want to consider a new profession as a fire walker where she is forced to sit on the fire for at least an hour for each and every mistake she has ever made while in the employment of this corrupt corporation. If you cannot resolve a problem created by Sedgwick, you can file a formal complaint with the California Department of Industrial Relations. Additionally, you may want to contact the U.S. Department of Justice and send them a letter outlining the corrupt, illegal, and unethical business practices engaged in by this ruthless corporation which needs to die a slow and painful death where all the employees who have caused unwarranted problems and financial hardships to innocent, injured workers. Sedgwick, Avis's insurance provider, has handled this claim with an appalling lack of professionalism and responsiveness. From the start, Sedgwick has shown little to no interest in processing my claim in a timely manner. I've had to chase down updates and answers on multiple occasions, only to be met with vague responses and endless delays. Despite providing all necessary documentation promptly, Sedgwick has stalled at every step, leaving my car repair needs in limbo. The representatives I dealt with, Thomas Highland and Tiffani Applewhite, displayed a dismissive and unprofessional attitude, only adding to the stress and frustration of this process. Instead of working toward a resolution, they seemed more focused on avoiding responsibility and giving me the runaround, with each interaction leaving me feeling like my claim is not a priority.
