They are merely the agents, and it's the insurance companies themselves that are coming up with "make believe" reasons for getting out of California. An article in a local newspaper yesterday sites a pending class-action suit against Liberty Mutual for cancelling a policy due to "excessive mold, mildew, algae and moss" on the roof of a home near San Diego. This is the exact same reason SAFECO gave for cancelling the homeowners policy on my mom's home. The insurance companies simply want out of California for a variety of reasons and they aren't being very cooperative with the agents who write their business. So, while J and J wasn't very helpful initially through this cancellation procedure, I now understand their hands are somewhat tied and often times it is out of their control. Blame the big companies, not the agents. I now change my rating to four stars.

I have been a State Farm customer for 35 to 40 years. I have auto, rental homes, an umbrella…read morepolicy and my personal home covered with State Farm. The great part about Kyle's office is that if you call during normal business hours there are a number of employees that are more than willing to help. If they don't have an answer they will call you back with the correct information, usually that day. For me this is a big plus as my last State Farm Agent only had an answer machine and would call me back, sometimes days later. Appointments had to be made to discuss insurance matters 2, 3 and 4 weeks down the road, but not with Kyle's office you can get same day answers. The downside with State Farm and I guess with all insurance companies is that for the last 5 plus years they no longer insure homes (rental or primary) in Big Bear, CA. and homeowners must use CA. Fair Plan and a wraparound policy at a much higher cost. Some of my neighbors have just had policies cancelled no matter how long they have had with these companies. The roofer I ended up hiring had a sub-contractor that did sloppy work. Also not sure if an older home built in 1912 can uphold added heavy construction plywood.
