I cannot believe how extremely rudely my mother and I were treated by the owner of this storage company! My mom's husband died in April and she was forced to sell her house and move to California from Oregon. Because she isn't sure exactly what she's going to do yet, she needed to put her furniture in storage. My mom had called from Oregon over a month in advance to reserve a storage unit. She was told that there was no need for me (local) to go in to sign documents and leave a deposit for the unit, "Don't worry Hon, you just come in when you get here."
After my 70 year old mother had been up since 3 am and driven over twelve hours, we went to the office to do the paperwork so that we could move all of her stuff in as early as possible the next morning, since she still had more driving to do that afternoon to get to her final location. When we walked into the office, Judy was having a social conversation with someone else, so we waited. When she was finally ready to help us, we explained that we were there to make a payment and sign the forms for a reserved storage unit. She snapped at us that she couldn't possibly do a "move in" after 4 o'clock in the afternoon. It had been 4:30 when we came in, and was now 4:40. They didn't close until 5:00. We explained that we weren't trying to move anything in, but that we just wanted to sign the papers and leave a deposit so that we didn't have to wait until 8:30 the next morning to begin moving her things in. She began yelling at us that she had told my mother that she didn't do move-in's after 4 o'clock. She yelled that she had just told her that yesterday when she called. When she could finally get a word in edgewise, my mother calmly told her that she had not spoken to her yesterday. The woman was flustered and asked for my mom's name. When she gave it, she realized that she had been wrong, but continue to insist that she had told her that when she talked to her.
We were so stunned at the way she was yelling at us, that we finally just turned and walked out the door. When we got out to the car we looked to see if there were other storage units nearby. As we drove away we saw that there was one almost directly across the street from where we were (and right across from the police department).
We went inside and asked the woman if she had any units. She did. We then asked her if it was too late to do paperwork and pay for one. She said it wasn't, did the paperwork (which only takes approx 10-15 minutes), and even took us out to see the unit. The next day when we moved in, we realized that one unit was not enough, and went back to the office to get another. She was very friendly and accommodating again and had no problem getting us another unit. I cannot believe the difference between the unfriendly, unprofessional attitude at Secured Self Storage versus the friendly, professional way we were treated just a block down the street. I strongly suggest avoiding this place like the plague. read more
