A lot of our ordering was done based on what the waitress recommended and I was surprised that things which sounded not bad were outstandingly good - probably due to the freshness of produce. My recommendations? - Order wine by the glass, there is plenty of it and you can pair your wines with the share plates. - Get the Kingfish sashimi in coconut milk with coriander and the pepper crusted barramundi wings, soy, chilli, shallot dressing as minimum for starters. - Get Blue Swimmer Crab Parpadelle. It is better than my Italian in-laws make being light, melt in your mouth strands of joy and the crab wasn't overloaded in the dish nor was it sparsely disappointing. You probably won't feel like sharing that dish though! Every dish is made to share, so you don't end up fighting over 3 arancini balls nor wondering where the rest of the meal is. The dishes are fresh, quick and bit sized, this is a wonderful place to spend time in on a winters evening with a cosy, candle lit atmosphere suitable for a group of sharing, caring friends.

The menu is decent, with a couple of dishes that seem to be returning to popularity. Although it is a bit over priced for a pub, the quality is good, so It isn't too big of a deal. Your pocket really gets hit by the beer and fancy drinks (with and without pretty umbrellas). Don't be surprised if you don't get any change back from a 20 for two pints of imported amber goodness. All in all it is a pretty good bar, but I tend to enjoy it more on the off peak times. Do make sure you are cashed up if you intend to have a solid session on the turps though!

After my first lunchtime visit to Sublime, I went back four times in the next fortnight. I have drunk enough coffees there to be ready for a freebie on my Rewardle card. I'm afraid our love might burn out, but then I remember the baked brie and I know this relationship is one for the ages. As well as the baked brie, I've also sampled the big brekkie, the smashed banana on toast, the chai lattes, the coffee, the lemon slice, the teas, the juices, the burger (that thing could feed a small village), the mushies and fetta on toast and more... I have enjoyed each and every bite on each and every plate. Seriously, not a bad word about any of it. Prices are definitely reasonable (cheap even, for the portion sizes and quality, especially for this part of town) and gluten free-ers are accommodated for easily. At first I was a bit protective of our relationship and wanted to keep Sublime all to myself, but I know it's nicer to share, so in the interests of being a good person and all that jazz, I've been spreading the word far and wide. Roasted veg salad was brilliant and wasn't lettuce heavy like most salads. Apparently the chickadee foccacia was the best Randall had ever had too! (I've been lightly applying pressure to not eat cows lately so thankyou Sublime for making the transition easy!!). I love that it's all served on boards, small but lovely touch! I will title my review three things: Suitable for sharing-…read moreif there is only two of you eating... Everything is recommended' (according to the wait staff...). Don't take your vegetarian or vegetable loving friends here. Ok once you get past the decor of this place the food is ok. But very meat heavy, hugely lacking vegetables and serving sizes are very light on especially as they suggest on the menu that things should be shared. Any restaurant that suggests that you share wins my heart. And this place does exactly that, however how you share those dishes is a little beyond me. The entrees would be pretty easy I guess, although the 'classic beef tartare' is very light on and is missing acid and a dash of spice and cornichons (and 50g of meat) and served with clunky, thick, white baguette croutons (NO! classic tartare has wafer thin potato chips). The duck pate would be suitable for two - three shares (again served with the same croutons). The crepe with langoustine and prawns was perfect to share and if a butter, cream hit is what you're after here you go! But I liked this one (i love butter). The prawn special was good but again nice and buttery. So what I'm saying is expect a lot of butter. They REALLY push the sides. Don't do it. When ordering you get the choice of 4 types of potato sides and two 'greens' being beans with almonds or a very dull salad. The beans are $8.50 and you literally pay $1 for bean (there were 8 sad beans on the tiny dish) and 50c for 6 slithers of almond (equating to 1.5 almonds) and they throw in the butter for free. The chips are $6.50 and you get a tiny little basket with the not very apple flavoured aioli. If you need chips go across the road to the burger place after. On that, let's talk about service. The whole ordering process was very rushed, interrupted and just invasive. We had two waiters 'competing' to take our orders and I think they came over to or table and interrupted conversations every 2 minutes for the first 15 of us being there. The girl was particularly bad. So at the 12 minute mark (#3 are you ready yet) we said yes and my mum talked through the whole menu with the waitress who now had 10 min + wait whilst everyone sat there and decided. On asking for recommendations 'everything was good' and she basically listed off every item being recommended. Mains were very vegetable lacking, meaty and heavy. With not quite 2 beans per person to share between the five of us, the micro green garnishes on each plate did not quite cut it. I had the duck salad with lentils and apple. The sauce was quite sweet and I will take that because I should have known with 'apple' on the menu. The chicken and lamb were all meat heavy. The corn puree was one of those 'corn smears'. STOP 'smearing' unless you are a degustation restaurant and the meat is three bites because there are 7 other courses to come. And the lamb needed something more. All meats were cooked perfectly. If this was a review on cooking meat they would get 4-5 stars. The decor is black, it looks like 'fashion dead taxidermy rats' hanging from the ceiling and just too much. I don't get the pictures and the toilets, for the price that you are paying per bean, are dreadful- especially the foyer bit just before you workout that the toilets are unisex (no signage) is messy and just dirty. I couldn't find anywhere to put my jacket as the window what we sat in was really really dirty, dusty gross. I hope the kitchen is cleaner. Wine list good. Missing some price points of 40-50 for the reds. Beer list sad.

Sharing of the dishes is polite suggestion of this restaurant and it made for a great experience. We were all very satiated by our meals. It was all simply to die for, the flavours were rich and the meat was well cooked and tender. Such attention to detail. There was a bit of a mix up with our order and the staff rectified it and adjusted our bill as a gesture of good will. Very focused on customer service and it pays to do so, I will be back. This place is a mere hidden gem of North Adelaide. I loved the mushrooms severed with the lamb, that could have been a meal on its own! The prices we very reasonable for the quality, the 4 of us ate for just more than $145 combined which is good considering we had 6 dishes between 4 people.
