Products are definitely unique compared to what you find at chain craft stores - even some papers specifically printed with local pictures and graphics are available. The facility has almost completed a major renovation to update and modernize the two floors of galleries. Yesterday during my visit, I was welcomed immediately by staff and told about the exhibits that are currently in the gallery. I saw hand crafted jewelry, pottery and lots of beautiful oil paintings. Prices are commensurate with what I'd expect to pay for an original work of art by a talented artist. I like that they have added a timeline explaining the history of art in Brown County in the entry. There is no parking, but you can find street parking to the west. Staff is helpful and not pushy. This gallery is a must visit if you love original art.

Cariani, Carl Graf and Genevieve Goth Graf. The BC Art Guild also features and sells the artwork of over 50 regional member artists. The Guild also has a Gift Shop of art prints, jewelry and ceramics. Marie Goth was well known for her portrait paintings throughout the 20th Century, especially her paintings of the founders of the art colony. When she died in the late 1970's, she left her estate to the Brown County Art Guild. We we are proud to preserve the legacy and artwork of this amazing woman and her collection of paintings by her peers.

In the fall, she did glass pumpkins and this time it was heart-shaped paperweights for Mother's Day. Spots are limited, so hop to it and register online to guarantee a spot. It was fun to watch others take their turn and see passersby stop to "ooh" and "aah". Cost was $30 - if I'm going to spend money on a gift, why not make it custom and handmade? My creation turned out beautifully - I made it on a Saturday and picked it up at CCA on a Tuesday. What the shop is interested is in giving the customer an experience, not just selling you an item. They can't out "Amazon" Amazon. But they can provide you a creative experience that Amazon can't. If we had more time, I think my wife and I might have taken a shot at making something. Five artists and titles have been identified in the project and additional art can be seen including Friendly Beasts' door which is painted, but not identified on the plaque mounted on the street side of the building. The first piece on the west side of the building is a brightly colored piece called "Unity is Community" by C D Culper. There are multiple human figures each only having one eye open. The faces also seem to have a second profile face obscuring half of the face directly looking at the viewer. The next piece is the "Entrance to Paradise" by Haider Ali. The small mural covers a doorway and has a beautiful mountain scenic painted. On the north end of the wall is the huge mural called "Wooden Wall of Life" by Adam Long. This piece stretches over several openings in the wall and is done in mostly blues and greens with images of twisted trees and roots that take on human form. Around to the north side of the building is another large mural with a rainbow of colors forming swirls for a background while additional objects seem to float in front. This is called "Sacred Journey" by Sacred Matthews. On the east side of the building by the parking lot is "Hive Mind" by Laura Brikmanis. It depicts a honeycomb with oversized bees crawling around. The art work is so precise that I am guessing she used a template/stencil to create the perfect geometry of the honeycomb grid and possibly on the bees too. It's a great collection of local talent and a way to check out multiple pieces all in one location. Note: To the north of the building is the Bluetip Billiards building that has a colorful mural of pool balls on the side and front. The volunteers (the artists themselves) are always friendly and helpful should you need assistance. In the summer it is cool inside and always sparkling clean. Yesterday I bought notecards of painted woodpeckers and felted acorns to use as a photo prop. Note that there is a ramp up to the door facing the street but not the door facing the alley.
