Cash only bar, great drinks and service! Atmosphere is a dive bar experience with decent music, diverse crowd and a group of bar regulars! From personal experience Ii advise you to only have drinks and not get involved with anyone you meet at this place! If you want to meet quality people you will not find them here!

Second Story Bar definitely does not have the most aesthetically pleasing decor. It is small (official count for customers is 36), requires walking up a flight of stairs that are not code (very weird height difference), and it is cash only. But man oh man, there is plenty of splits of bubbles, a great playlist, fun and friendly regulars that includes dogs, and plenty of fun times with people I have gone there with. This is the only gay bar that is downtown and there use to be plenty of them because I went to them all. I am happy that it is still alive and kicking. Again, it is cash only and there is an ATM machine at the entrance so you can get cash to pay for your drinks. I have stopped in here many a time for day and night drinking before or after a dinner reservation. I have spent so many times here either sitting in the window to watch traffic go by on the street below, chatting with people I have met on the spot, or hanging out with The Doctor, Queen and friends to just chill. Service has always been nice and the bartenders over the years have been nice and chatty and catty and I have loved it! I prefer to go during the day when it is a little more on the quiet side. But pre-COVID, it was cool at night but crazy packed. But post-COVID, I am not about that scene anymore. I actually do enjoy hanging out there during the day for a quiet drink and just listening to conversations, looking at some of the really cute older guys that come in to either work on laptops or just to have a quick drink. The bar opens at noon and closes at 1:30 a.m., so have at it and bring lots of cash to get those boozy drinks and to tip your bartender.

It was soooooo crowded, I have never seen it this crowded and all my visits to second-story bar stay for one cocktail. Will come back next time, but during the day and holiday weekend, they are always super nice. Reminder cash only bar.

I'm seeing more "Washroom" signs in the US. Feels like Canada, I love it!

Unassuming gay bar in Streeterville area, and to be quite honest, probably the only LGBTQ+ centered bar in the downtown area. I don't think River North or anywhere in the Loop has a bar like this. I'm quite surprised they don't honestly. I came here with a friend and this place gabe chill bar vibes. Definitely not a place you go to for dancing or twerking or any of that shenanigans. It's also very easy to miss. Walking up the stairs from the street makes you feel like you walking into someone's janky apartment and going up a flight of stairs. Anyways, ambiance was cool... our bartender was friendly, and just a reminder, it is CASH only. They have an ATM nearby downstairs so that wasn't an issue. If I'm in the area, it wouldn't be a bad place to grab a drink or pregame to go elsewhere, but don't expect Boystown energy by any means.

Down the narrow hall and up the stairs. If you thought that bougie speakeasy down the street felt hidden, try Second Story Bar. With just rainbow flags and neon lights you'll need strong gay-dar to hone in on this location. Or just ask around... or use Yelp. Lucky for us, we had all three. All are welcome, everyone was friendly and the drinks were basic but strong. No patio, decks, or fresh air here though, so it can get heated. Cash is king. But so is that shorty with the perfectly toned thighs.

What has a neon emoji signs of a fuzzy peach and an enlarged zucchini?! ... ONLY Chicago's Second Story Gay Bar! It's hidden upstairs via a nondescript stairway to the west of Sayat Nova's Armenian Restaurant in Streeterville. I had always wanted to pay a visit here when I was a local, however, never made it happen. Thankfully while visiting Chicago as a tourist I brought a gaggle of girls upstairs. Sadly many bars downtown and in the Loop aren't open very late, perhaps except in the Viagra Triangle area. It's always nice to not have to venture all the way north to Boystown for a gay bar. Upon entering, the bouncer was super cool and welcoming given my crowd and paparazzi. We hung out near the small space available nook near the front windows. It is not a large place but everyone was friendly and willing to squeeze in around one another. Second Story makes their drinks not only affordable but also boozy like most gay bars. We spent a few hours singing, eavesdropping to figure out each person's story, and judging folks as they came up the stairs via video surveillance. Oh and don't forget to bring cash! No plastic accepted.

Stopped Friday but didn't really hold us up much. Once we got inside, the center of the bar was fairly congested. However, the outside the bar was fairly sparse and we were able to order drinks immediately and order a second round without the issue. The bartender was friendly and the main bar when you walk in at 45 bartenders working it so people were getting served fairly quickly. While not really my scene anymore, The boss bar seemed nice enough with good service with the options to be in the crowd or have some more space if needed.

1 STAR UNBELIEVABLE EXPERIENCE…read more LET ME BE VERY CLEAR: I have NEVER left anything less than a 5 star review before. Please check my previous Yelp reviews to see. This is the first time a place genuinely earned a 1 star. I entered The Boss Bar and said, "Hey, I'm just waiting for my Uber. It's arriving in about three minutes." IT WAS 10 DEGREES WITH A WIND CHILL OF -11. It was a Monday night and the bar was essentially empty. The security guard, who told me his name was Romero, immediately said they do not allow entry unless you are purchasing something. I explained again that I was just trying to stay warm briefly. He responded, "Why don't you go to the Starbucks next door?" That made no sense. Why leave a bar I was already inside of to wait somewhere else for a ride that was about to arrive? He kept repeating that it was "policy." I even said I was not blaming him personally, but that kicking someone out into freezing weather is a bad and irrational policy. For clarity, there were no raised voices or confrontation. Romero was calmly speaking with another security guard, and I was speaking calmly as well. Despite that, I was told to leave. Once outside on a public sidewalk, I began recording. The security guard came out threatening to call the police and said I was not allowed to film. This was not about buying a drink. It was about being treated like a problem for trying to stay warm for three minutes. NO HOSPITALITY. NO EMPATHY. NO LOGIC. I will not be back, and management should seriously reconsider how they want their staff representing this place.

Having read reviews and menus for All Rise Brewing Co. online, we headed in for beers and dinner, then quickly realized the brewery was no more. No complaints, though--what we found was a laid-back, welcoming bar with plenty of local beer on tap and a menu full of interesting pizzas. We tried some beers, and split a Clam Bake Pizza--that was pretty awesome. Classic cult movies playing on the screens (I hadn't seen Buckaroo Banzai in awhile!) gave the place a little added atmosphere. Our bartender was super cool & helpful. The room got close to full as showtime neared, but was always comfortable. Patrons likely vary depending on what music's playing; this night was shoegaze/goth and the multi-generational crowd looked like fans of those genres. We ended up staying for the night's live show, which was a lineup of four bands (one touring and three local, I think) for a very reasonable price. We could take our drinks from the bar into the venue and/or order more in the lounge space. I wasn't alone, but would've felt safe and comfortable on my own there. The venue's an elevated stage with two sets of steps. There doesn't appear to be any back room; gear and cases were piled in an alcove. The sound and lights were good. Bathrooms were just fine. No seats in the venue, but it's cool to come and go to hang out in the lounge or bar. Cobra Lounge has a small, well-lit parking lot and there's plenty of street parking available too.

I went here with my best friend and my hubby to celebrate my birthday with a great birthday dinner…read more We were in the Chi already visiting Atlas Stationary as a self-proclaimed station and fountain pen freak so we figured why not?!? I had heard great things about Carnivale prior to so please note that prior reservations were already made but regardless, it was all our first times there and we were stoked to finally try this place out. When we first got there, the outside was very unassuming. Some awesome graffiti on the wall (yes, angel wings included) and lots of color which made me so happy! As we entered, we were greeted by lots of colored flora on the walls and the floor. It led to a beautiful lounge where we checked in. The hostess was quite kind and they escorted us to another room that had multiple floors, two I believe. We were sitting in the main dining area where dining tables were set up and the ceiling lights and decorations were super-duper colorful. It was brightly lit and festive. Seriously, the colors alone could make anyone happy and do a serious dopamine overload which was fine with me. We sat down, was introduced to our server, Oscar and then given menu's. I genuinely thought that this place was pretty small initially because it looked small from the outside but boy was I wrong! This place was MASSIVE. But! I digress, now that we had our menu's-- Let the party begin!! We started with the ceviche tasting which included four types of ceviche; shrimp, Yucatan style hamachi, salmon and tuna. All were really good with their own really distinct flavors but our top favorites were the salmon and the tuna. The salmon had a kick while the tuna had a great balance of heat and sweetness. Great way to start of this dinner! My bestie ordered coconut shrimp and smoked mushroom croquettes for her main meal. My hubs ordered the carne asado while I ordered the lechon asada. I also want to add that we ordered Mexican street corn on the side alongside mashed potatoes and Peruvian Jalea. Ah and before I forget, we also ordered our drinks which consisted of a: sangria, margarita, Cotton Candy Cosmo and Salva Honduran Pilsner. All were spectacular and made the night that more enjoyable as well! When we received our food. We were all really enjoyed it as we all shared our bites amongst one another. The coconut shrimp was well breaded and you tasted the coconut as well. The shrimps were large and juicy. The smoked mushroom croquettes were good with a smokey flavor and good breading, however, the breading may have a been a little thick because you couldn't really taste the mushroom,m unfortunately. The carne asado was the star of the show. Well seasoned steak, cooked medium rare which was juicy and succulent. The lechon asado was good. Although I'm not used to eating lechon asado that is covered in sauce, the sauce was super tasty so I didn't mind the tender, juicy pork that was covered in it. I really enjoyed it. I think the only thing that I wish was different with regards to my lechon asado is that I wish it were hotter because it was luke warm when I received it. Other than that, it was....*chef's kiss*. The Mexican street corn was alright, it honestly just tasted like regular corn with mayonaise in it with some cheese. Didn't add anything significant to the meal. The mashed potatoes were soft but not too soft and buttery. They were really good and then the Purvian Jalea was another favorite, super good! The calamari, fish and shrimp with the Purvian Jalea were absolutely delicious; fresh, tasty and well breaded. It was absolutely yummalicious. To top the night off, they gave me a little birthday treat of cotton candy and carmel popcorn. We also had some tres leches which was so yummy because the fruit was fresh and you could taste the milk in the tender cake and then we had the chocolate cigar. The chocolate cigar was also really good, everything except the label was edible, It was smokey, chocolately and delectable. It's presentation was also so creative. We all loved it. Overall, this restaurant is SUPER PRICY but SUPER WORTH IT. I am so glad that I was able to go there to celebrate a special occasion because it would not be a place that I could go to on a regular basis but as much as I wish I was, ya girl ain't rich like that. The service was superb, the employees were kind, the food was fire and drinks were scrumptious. If you're looking for a fun, Latin cuisine inspired, creative, yummy way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion with a fun Latin twist--look no further, that is it! Check it out and you won't be disappointed. Now, I'm sorry for my novel and you may now go back to your normal programming schedule. If you do end up coming here and loving it -- i told ya so ;)

Wasn't too busy as there wasn't a prominent sports event going on at the moment but still had adequate staff and patrons. Our bartender was cool, no complaints about the service whatsoever. They did not have physical menus, had QR codes. I like how they put the cook time for their pizzas, definitely a good heads up as I was hungry NOW and ain't have time to wait so I didn't order. Their menu is pretty extensive, lots of options. I ordered the Rum Punch (7.9/10), which was not bad at all, just which the bartender mixed it a little more but other than that not a bad cocktail. For the entrees, we order the Italian Beef Combo with Fries + additional Giardiniera peppers, Onions, Marinara sauce and also the Catfish Dinner. For the Italian Beef Combo, I can give it an adequate 8.0/10 rating. The Italian Sausage was charred well, Beef was cooked to good consistency, would just wish they used a different bread as it did have an after taste from being toasted I assume. Fries were pretty good though. Overall, this place was not bad at all. They had a bunch of games going so we were able to chill at the bar, enjoy a bite, and have a chill ending to our night. Pricing isn't the worst I have seen, especially in the city of Chicago, but I would look at menu before hand online. Just heads up, if wanting to split, they can split check but not by item (apparently they have to get manager to do so). Also shout out to the one worker, checked to make sure our car wasn't outside so it ain't get towed (wasn't our car btw). I like when service goes above and beyond like that to look out for the people they have. I would come back if I wanted to catch a game or event with some people.

It's a reasonably-priced busy dive bar in the heart of Chicago. I asked the bartender if she had a beer + shot deal and she said "no, but you can order a beer and shot." And so we did! Noise level is fairly high, thanks to a lively crowd plus a jukebox. They don't normally serve food but I think are fine with customers bringing in your own food, and you can also place an order from a nearby restaurant (I don't recall which one). And yes, it's cash only so bring some money if you don't want to pay ATM fees! 4 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. I like bars that allow customers to bring (or order) their own food - it allows for all diets! The one thing I'd like to see is more beer on tap - even just one good rotating local beer (e.g., Goose Island). Draft beer has smaller environmental footprints compared to bottled or canned.

After a quick ID check at the door, the bouncer let us know it's cash only (thankfully we came prepared). From the moment we walked in, dim lighting, loud music, and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds gave the vibe of a full-on frat party, but not in a bad way. It's chaotic, energetic, and unapologetically no-frills. There's even a self-serve cooler with drink prices clearly listed underneath. I grabbed a Sapporo Premium, brought it to the counter, and our friendly bartender broke our change and offered a chilled glass to pour it into. Simple and efficient. That said, it was loud, so loud that even whispering-distance conversations were a struggle. The space is small, seating is limited, and since we couldn't snag a spot, we ended up leaving shortly after finishing our drinks. This feels like a better weekday hang than a packed weekend night.
