I wanted to take a moment to share some significant milestones that Randy and Second Sole of Gahanna have been part of, whether they realized it or not! I recently reached a significant milestone of running every day for 10 years (and counting)! I'm currently at 3,655 consecutive days and have accumulated a total of 30,050 miles during this streak. Second Sole has been my sole supplier for running shoes throughout this entire journey. In fact, I've purchased all my running shoes from this store since 2004, despite living in Ohio, Illinois (twice), and Colorado (twice) during this time. When I first visited Second Sole as a neophyte runner, Randy dedicated significant time to help me find the perfect fit with Brooks shoes. I genuinely believe that without his careful attention to fitting, my running streak may have been cut short by injuries. I have completed over 100 marathons, numerous Ironman competitions, and many ultra-marathons. This October marks my third consecutive year competing in the Javelina Jundred 100-mile race in Arizona. The shoes I ordered for the race last year arrived well in advance, and I'm happy to report that I didn't experience a single blister, even in the 100-degree temperatures! The experience here highly depends on who's on shift. Had a girl who was super nice and very knowledgeable, but ended up having to come back because the shoes put me in quite a lot of pain once in more extensive use than just walking around the store. When I came back the guy I got (maybe in his 40s or 50s) was super rude and condescending, basically tried to gaslight me that these were good shoes so clearly I must be lying about the shooting pain that went all the way up to my knee (as if my idea of a fun time was going back to the shoe store rather than idk, doing literally anything else with my life). Finally he showed me some other shoes but proceeded to take smug little jabs at me as we talked with the same vibe as a gym bro looking down their nose at new years resolution types. (I'm not, for the record, definitely casual but decided to invest in some quality shoes rather than buying more Walmart crap). I honestly should have just returned the shoes, walked out, and spent my money elsewhere, but I've been trying to find time to get some good athletic shoes since like November and I didn't have the energy to find another store. read more

This is a great athletic shoe store! The staff is extremely knowledgeable. I told them what the purpose of the shoe was, how often and how hard I ran, and the troubles I've had in the past. Instantly, they knew what brand and style would work best. They brought out about four pairs for me to try. I was able to test out as many styles as I wanted, though. Testing included taking a trot outside to see how the shoes really feel when running. I found a pair, only to realize when I took it on a 4 mile run, it actually wasn't the right shoe. Savior in sight! You can return a used shoe for any reason. They truly want you and your feet to be happy. They encourage movement, and nothing halts movement more than achy feet. I returned my shoes for another pair, and have worn them successfully through the summer. I also just received my Holiday Open House postcard. From December 6th-7th, 10am-6pm, you can get free gift wrapping, and refreshments while you shop. Hooray for free stuff! read more

If you are looking for the best customer service with an amazing selection of products, visit this hidden gem! I have a track kiddo and because I am not experienced myself, I needed a ton of help. Randy and all of his staff are top notch. They are knowledgeable, and provide a retail experience that it hard to find in todays world. I knew with one phone call this was the best place for my family to go and being in the store proved that to be correct. It's almost an hour for us to get there and I will not shop anyplace else for running and track shoes. Its worth every single mile! read more

What happened?! This store has always been my go-to for athletic shoes, as I'm hard to fit due to a plethora of foot problems. I come here yearly for their selection, their service, and their liberal exchange policy. During my last visit, however, I left feeling disappointed and disenchanted. The sales associate was pleasant enough, but wasn't nearly as helpful as the folks who have helped me in years past. He brought out the brand I requested, but didn't watch me walk or offer any insight or suggestions. I really could have used help lacing them, or at the very least, use of the stool that his rear was planted firmly upon, but help was never offered and his body language made it clear that the stool was his. I felt awkward asking if I could put my foot there so that I could tie my shoes, so I didn't....but really, should I have to ask?? Upon checkout, I asked if I still had x many days to try them out and exchange if needed, but I guess their policy has changed. They used to let you exchange even if you wore them outside because they really wanted you to be happy in your new shoes and ensure that you have the right fit for your feet. The policy is now the same as any other shoe store...you can exchange them within a couple of weeks as long as you have not worn the shoes outside and they are still in brand new condition. Mind you, I have only had to exchange once before, but I loved shopping here because I appreciated the reassurance that if I needed to exchange after taking them for a thorough test drive, I could. I was also disappointed to see the entire staff looking down at their phones the whole time I was there. Even if they weren't busy, having the entire staff leaning against the wall and playing on their phones is just so unprofessional. In fact, all of them in the exact same pose was almost comical to see! As much as I like to shop local, I'm not sure if I'll be back next time I'm in need of new kicks. Might be better off shopping at an online retailer. read more

Here's the round-about: Went with the MeetUp group to a walking event put on by the four divergent walking clubs around Columbus. Who was one of the sponsors for this four-mile walking event? Second Sole! Kelsey came to the walk and brought several pairs of Hoka shoes to try out. I'd been mentally prepping for a new pair of walking shoes for awhile now, so figured I'd try me on and see where that took me. Good move, Gwen. Fast forward a month later, I came to this Second Sole specifically to see Kelsey and buy a new pair of sneakers. Thus, this store was the lucky winner, by default. Store isn't huge, but the size fits well. Enough space to walk/try on shoes. They do have an assortment of clothing, socks, accessories placed about. I'd never heard about SS before these delightful events. I've always been a Front Runner customer, and had never heard about (and tried on) these Hokas. The customer service was right on. Attention of feedback. No high pressure sales. Plenty of explanation. I'd tell you to ask for her. Negative? The parking options. They have a small 12-lot square out front, but it was full when I got there. There's more parking down the way behind their building, but because it was raining, and just a cruddy day in general, I patiently waited for about 10 minutes for a spot to open up. Was having a lot of shin pain running even short distances, so decided to stop in Second Sole for advice and recommendations to hopefully help alleviate some of my pain. Maxwell diagnosed my gait and put me in several shoes helping me to narrow it down to the one the felt the best. Just finished my first 5K in the new shoes (trained in them for about a week) & my legs feel great! Great service & I feel like I ended up in an appropriate product for my needs. I agree we are lucky we have several good running stores here in Columbus and while competitive, they aren't cut throat with each other. They show support of each other's races and we are lucky to have so many races available to us, especially when you compare Columbus to slightly larger cities. Good selection, competitive prices on most things and helpful people. read more

Great store with a decent selection of shoes. (Biggest gripe is they rarely carry wide widths for hubby but they're more than happy to order them for you if they're available) The staff is always so helpful, especially this one guy whose name I forget but tall, mid-20's with brown hair that is always spot on with his recommendations and never a high pressure pitch. read more

I usually like this place, but my trip there today was really poor. I went in looking for new Vibrams (mine are getting threadbare). I wanted about ten minutes before anyone came over to help me buy shoes, and then he went into the back to get the shoe I asked for. He came back with a completely different style not in my size. When i asked him if they had the one I'd asked for he said no. that's it. No attempt to ask me if I wanted him to order it, no conversation about my options. He just asked me to let him know if he could find anything else for me, like it was a thrift store or something. My first experience here was fine, but this was trash. I'm also not a fan of the new store. Too much empty space. read more

I ordered a jacket for finishing a marathon which Second Sole fulfilled. Second Sole sent the jacket and I like it, but I had to call three times and email once to confirm my order because I never received a confirmation email that was promised. Shipping also took almost two weeks. The jacket is great and the customer service was very helpful once I actually talked to someone. I would order from them again, but I hope they tighten up their online ordering system. read more

Second Sole has been the best part about starting my running program so far. They have an expert staff that's very patient and helpful for runners that are just getting started, and have "challenges" (as in I'm no spring chicken) in running to begin with. So after half an hour or so of trying on shoes, I decided on a pair of brooks that were feeling pretty good. Had a lackluster experience at this place. They special ordered a pair of shoes for me that they don't normally carry, which was great! They said it would be about a week. However, it took 3 weeks to get them. I'm not upset at the fact that things were delayed (we live in crazy times, it's 2020), but disappointed in the follow up. If after 10 days, my shoes weren't in, I'd expect a call to update me on the process. I shouldn't have to call twice in two weeks to finally get the answer as to why they were delayed. Also, when they did come in, I stopped by to pick them up and was walked right to the register... no 'would you like to try them on', or even see them, for that matter. I had to stop the guy who was checking me out to ask to try them on. He seemed a bit annoyed, like I was wasting his time. I did end up purchasing, they're what I wanted. I'm surprised in this day and age, when things are so easily procured online, that a brick and mortar store wouldn't have better customer service. It's cool to have 'runners' as employees, but they should also have some customer service experience/training as well. read more

I've been running comfortably in the same shoe for 12 years, but recently I starting having terrible ankle pain--and not just when I ran, but all the time. I'm a very casual runner--we're talking maybe 20 minutes 3 times weekly--and I'm slightly overweight, so I felt silly walking into Second Sole to ask them to look at my four-month-old, barely broken in running shoes. But they were so nice and the guy really listened to what I was saying, asked me a few questions about my running habits and what I used to like about my old shoes, and brought me three shoes to try. I was suspicious because he'd brought out a certain brand that has never worked well on me, but he explained that that particular shoe had some engineering innovations that weren't found on other shoes in that brand. He was right--that shoe was "the one" and I'm very happy with it! The ankle pain is totally gone! I've since recommended the store to several folks with high school kids who are joining track teams. read more
