TL;DR/The Short Version: Delicious bubble tea at this shop…read moretucked into the corner of a plaza. No real seating so I'd say takeout only. The Long Version: Bliss Tea opened up where Sip Tea used to be on Merivale Ave. I think they just rebranded because their drinks taste similar and when I entered my phone number to collect points, it already knew my name despite it being my first time there (I had an account with Sip Tea. Mind you I lost all those points and had to start over with Bliss Tea). I got the Coco Mango ($6.49) and added Tea Jelly (an additional $0.80). I got 30% sweet because 0% was not an option. I also got less ice. My drink was delicious! It contained lots of real mango pieces, rich and creamy coconut milk, and the tea jelly had a nice tea flavour and good texture. The tea jelly is big blobs of jelly like the pudding jelly or herbal/grass/Mesona jelly that's also a bubble tea topping option. It's not neat little cubes or rectangles like coconut jelly. They have a self-ordering kiosk where you select what you want on the screen and pay by card. If you want to pay cash you have to order from the cashier, but you can only pay cash at the cashier. You can't order from the cashier and pay by card. So many rules, lol. There are instructions next to the self-ordering kiosk and on the kiosk itself so it's pretty easy to use. I was thankful for the instructions because the screen was all in Chinese when I started but there were arrows that pointed where to press to change the language. Once it was in English it was really straightforward. Service was quick. I had very little interaction with staff. They basically called out my order number and gave me my drink, lol. There's no real seating. There's this bench along the wall towards the front and 2 really short stools (one of which was on top of the bench). I think it's just a place to sit while you wait for your drinks. It doesn't look like a comfortable place to hang out for long. The shop is in a plaza, so there's free parking in the shared parking lot. I'll definitely be back to try out other drinks. (194)

This is one of my favorite stops in Ottawa. Whether you need Ane ice cream, bakeshop or coffee fix,…read morethey got you covered. High quality ice cream with rotating flavours. Yum. And many spots to sit outside in nice weather. Baked goods are hard to resist. Small but mighty selection. Everything is good! Coffee is reliably well made, and the cozy seating area is great on a cold day. What I love about inside is the low key quirkiness, from old hair salon chairs to snow shoe art, I usually spot something I've never noticed before. They do also have a small light lunch type of menu, and anything I've ordered from that has been tasty. Staff are top notch - well versed on the product, always genuine, and efficient. It's a little gem hidden away in the neighborhood. In summer, parking can be a challenge, and the ice cream line looks daunting. But good things come to those who wait, and the line moves at an efficient pace.

I purchased half a pound of coffee. To go. The lineup was out the door and down the steps for ice cream! Cyclists and joggers made their way here. Service was courteous, and we appreciated the fact that an employee came out to wash down the tables periodically.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Independent coffee shop in…read moreWestboro. Minimalist interior. Good selection of baked goods and they also sell coffee, lol ;) The Long Version: The Bower Coffee Company opened up about a year ago in the summer of 2024. Usually I like trying out new businesses that open up in my neighbourhood, but admittedly I'm not a coffee connoisseur. I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between a $50 cup of Kopi Luwak and a cup of Folgers instant coffee, lol. So coffee shops don't really excite me. However, I recently learned that Bower Coffee Company sells baked goods from a business called Adam Bakes. I've been wanting to try treats from Adam Bakes for a while now, but they are only open on Saturdays 8am-12pm and not in my neighbourhood, so their limited hours have prevented me from trying them. I didn't realize that they also sold their baked goods to other businesses for resale, so when I discovered this, I planned a little coffee date for my husband and I at The Bower Coffee Company :) I chose a Cinnamon Swirl Blondie from Adam Bakes ($4.85) and my husband chose a Peanut, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip cookie from Art-Is-In Bakery ($5.25) and we got a regular 12 oz coffee ($3.25). The coffee tasted like any other coffee to me (unsurprising, lol). My husband is more of a coffee connoisseur than I am and his comment was it was a bit too watery, but otherwise ok. I loved the Blondie. It was rich and I think there's cheesecake swirled into it because it had creamy bits to it. It had a potent cinnamon flavour. I really enjoyed it and so did the hubster. I ended up hauling my butt out to Adam Bakes the following Saturday morning to try their other offerings, which weren't available at Bower Coffee. Adam Bakes will get its own review. I noticed that the prices are cheaper buying directly from Adam Bakes than at Bower Coffee, but I guess that's not surprising. The cookie was unremarkable in my opinion, but the hubby enjoyed it. It had whole peanuts in it as well as peanut butter and chocolate chips. It was soft and chewy, and the whole peanuts gave it the occasional crunch. Service at Bower Coffee was great. The barista asked me for the Blondie if I wanted a centre piece or an edge piece. I know some people like the crispiness of edge pieces, but I prefer the softness of centre pieces, so I was happy to be asked. The decor is clean lines minimalist. It's not a huge space, but has a decent amount of tables. It was bustling on a Sunday morning. Overall, a nice place for a coffee date, albeit a bit pricey in my opinion, but I get it, everything is expensive these days :/ We walked there, but it's street parking only for those coming by car. When I saw The Bulldog Cafe on Google Maps, I knew I had to go there! They are a food truck and their specialty is waffles shaped like bulldog faces. How cute is that?!? My first visit was just with my mom to check it out. Waffles are $5.99 each, but if you buy 4 it's $22.99. We got 4. I wanted the pepperoni pizza waffle, but they were out of pepperoni, so I got a cheese pizza waffle and an apple cinnamon waffle. My mom decided to get the same, lol. The lady working there, I suspect is the owner, and she was lovely. She brought out a box filled with activities to entertain us while we waited, lol. There was a dog-themed card game, some crayons, colouring books and more, lol. We just walked around, but these activities would be great for kids! They have a colourful picnic table and a smaller kids' picnic table next to the food truck. They also have some bulldog shaped planters around the food truck. The decor is adorable! The waffles themselves were good. We really enjoyed the apple cinnamon ones. They had plenty of apple chunks as the filling and was topped with cinnamon sugar. The cheese pizza one was good, but too light on the cheese. The waffles had a nice texture, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. She gave us a loyalty card where you buy 8 you get the 9th one free. We were halfway to getting a free one :) I knew my little nieces would love this place, so on my second visit, I brought them with my mom and I. They both love Nutella, so they wanted the Nutella waffle and got one each. My younger niece only wanted one waffle, but my older niece wanted 2, so she also got an apple cinnamon one. We were going to get the cheesecake waffle for my mom and I but they ran out, so we got a Tiramisu waffle instead. And with the purchase of those 4, we filled up our loyalty card, so for my free one, I got the pepperoni pizza waffle that I wasn't able to get on my first visit. The girls loved their Nutella waffles. They were filled with so much Nutella. The Tiramisu waffle had a strong Tiramisu flavour and we enjoyed it. I was hoping the pepperoni pizza waffle would have more cheese this time, but again it had very little cheese :( It was mostly just pepperoni and tomato sauce. I should have tried another flavour, lol. My nieces loved the activity box and they enjoyed our little outing. I would definitely recommend this place for kids. The food truck is in the parking lot where Apple Saddlery is. There are 2 other food trucks in the same parking lot. Lots of free parking.
