Charlotte Meade is the most loving animal Mom I have ever met in the many canine rescues where I…read morehave volunteered . She has a large land property in Creston, the dogs sleep inside two different enclosures (one her personal home) and she supports them with donations. Many of her beautiful senior and special needs dogs are rescued on the brink of death from the LA County Shelters. I love volunteering there, seeing the happy new dog parents taking home beautiful senior dogs that have such a love of life and so much UNCONDITIONAL LOVE to give and share. Charlotte is my hero, and I just hope I can make a difference in their lives in any small way. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Donations are needed, (for the shelter and Resale Store in Atascadero) Please see the list on her website for the most current list and stop by MEADE Rescue RESALE RETAIL STORE in Atascadero, 4303 El Camino Real, where they sell gently used Furniture, Gently used Clothing and Tools. All proceeds go towards helping SENIOR ANIMALS live happier, healthier lives.

OMG! Meade Canine Rescue is absolutely fantastic!! Met Charlotte and Tim, who were so kind and so…read morecaring. Our daughter and her husband wanted to get a rescue dog for some time, and found one online at Meade. We just picked him up the other day at Meade's. He is the sweetest little guy, a beagle/corgi mix. Charlotte named him Guy. He's been so wonderfully taken care of during the last month at Meade's. We understood he was abandoned for some time, so is quite shy, a bit skittish, yet so loving. Our daughter and her husband are so happy to have him as a part of their family. They both grew up loving dogs, and pretty much all other animals. They already have a cat, named Ollie from when he was a kitten (also abandoned on the side of the road). So, it was very sweet when Ollie and Emerson (Emmer for short, Guy's new name) met, and instantly got along. Guess they have that special connection. A huge heartfelt thank you to Charlotte and Tim for really taking care of Emmer, and giving him a lot of love, and so much care and respect. Our family is very honored to carry on your kindness and care for Emmer. You both are such gems!! All these dogs you've rescued are so very blessed that you've found and cared for them. And so are we!! xxoo Lynn, Ron, Cait and Andy

I'm extremely disappointed with this rescue's polices and overall approach. I was denied the…read moreopportunity to adopt simply because I live in the Central Valley... which makes absolutely no sense considering the dog I applied for literally came from the Central Valley. They wrote in an email to me, "You can't throw a rock without hitting an abandoned dog there." Turing away a qualified, loving home-based, purely on zip code, feels more like discrimination in the responsible rescue work. If the goal is truly to help dogs find a safe, committed home, blanket location restrictions like this are counterproductive. It's disheartening to see dogs kept from good homes over policies that seem inconsistent and poorly thought out. I expect better from an organization that claims to prioritize animal well-being.

Compassion As…read moresomeone who has rescued before and is actively fostering a purebred Australian Shepherd we saved from a high-kill shelter, I reached out to this rescue hoping for guidance and collaboration to help place him in the right long-term home. He had been on the euthanasia list due to illness, and my family and I spent over $3,000 out of pocket to nurse him back to health. We've provided love, care, and structure, and we're continuing to support him while recognizing that--due to his reactivity and my being pregnant--our home isn't the safest long-term fit, especially with a newborn on the way. Instead of being met with support or even understanding, I received a shaming, condescending response that made broad assumptions about our commitment and motivations. Despite stating clearly that I am willing to act as a foster and contribute financially to his continued care, their reply completely disregarded that and suggested I was contributing to the problem. It lacked empathy, nuance, and basic kindness. What's worse is that the tone of their message is exactly the kind that pushes capable, compassionate people away from stepping up to rescue or foster in the first place. It's hard enough navigating complex behavioral needs while doing everything possible to give a dog a second chance--being met with judgment instead of help is unacceptable. I would not recommend working with this organization unless you want to be talked down to for trying to do the right thing. There are plenty of rescues out there that operate with both heart and professionalism. Sadly, this was not one of them. --Sandra K.
