I've visited quite a few cat shelters and this is one of the nicest and cleanest I've been to. The staff here is always friendly and the cats are well-treated with plenty of space, outside nooks, and more. Stop in and visit the kitties and give them some love -- even if you can't take them home with you. There's always something cute at their gift shop and it's a great way to support what they do.

Kind employees who take great care of their cats!!! Just sign in at the front desk, wash your hands and play with the cats!! They're so sweet and lovable, we had an amazing time here.

Meet Panda! He is a talker! And such a snuggle bug :) He needs to be the only kitty, so he can get all your love!

So this will be a bit biased as I volunteer here. But i LOVE this shelter! Its open, has no cages unless the kitty is new and being introduced to a room. The cats and kittens are so loved! Staff is amazing, and takes GREAT care of this shelter. They have a little gift shop, with some hand made items. If you are looking for a new fur baby, come check them out! They also sell kitty food, litter. And have a corner for doggie stuff as well. Come visit some kitties and take one (or 2) home! They also are so sweet in saying that a few kitties MUST go together as they are bonded pairs. I love that!

I adopted Elaina (Jack Russell/Chihuahua) on February 9, 2026…read more I was told that there was no history on her. I'm pretty sure she was abused probably by a man because she's scared to death of my son. She's still skittish with me sometimes. The collar and harness she came with were too loose and she escaped five minutes after I got home. She ran up on the freeway. Luckily, a kind driver managed to catch her and returned her to Woods. I thought I would never see her again. She was lucky she didn't get run over and I'm lucky to have her back. I bought an escape proof harness and put a different collar on her which I made sure was snug enough to not slip over her head. I almost brought her back, thinking she would never warm up to me, but I'm glad I didn't. She scared to death of a leash or anything like the collar and harness. She finally warmed up to our other dog and they play all the time. She is very playful with me when she's not scared. It just takes a lot of patience when a dog like this. Woods must have known she was an escape risk because at Woods carried her out to my vehicle. Any other time I have gotten a dog from the shelter, I always took the dog out the door and to my vehicle. I just wish they could have warned me. It almost caused her to get killed on the freeway.

Then we adopted a cat from them, their cat room is amazing. So nice to get out there and be able to actively interact with multiple cats and meet one that fits you. We now have adopted another dog from them. It is great that they keep getting animals from other shelters and adopting them out. Our new dog had some stomach issues, but everything was clearly disclosed on the records and they send you home with everything you could need. The free vet check is a really nice plus. We look forward to joining the classes for our new dog once she is fully healthy and cleared to go. We enjoy supporting them through donations as well because they do such a great job.

She also helped me save the lives of 3 street cats I had brought in who were in desperate need of placement and attention. She facilitated all of this like a complete champ and pro. This woman and place are true advocates for animals and their rights and wellness. I would trust this place with any poor, abandoned animal I've come across... the animal would be lucky to land here in the care of SLO animal services. I can't thank this team enough for their help with these sweet cats and for giving them a chance at a real shot at life. The intake was seamless and easy on the cats, thanks to Annette and just wanted to personally say thank you to her and the staff here. You're making a major difference. Thank you

There are state of the art kennels for all kinds of animals there at the facility. We recently adopted a cat and it was awesome playing in one of the two "cat rooms." There are no odors, like their last building, everything is brand new and situated in a way that puts less stress on the animals. We saw two cats we loved, could only keep one, so we paid for the adoption fees so someone could come in and pick her up. They'll tell you if an animal has had it's fees waived. We walked outside and although the dogs were loud and a little stressed, the kennels were situated so we could observe from a distance. There was a tortoise there when we visited, very tempted to adopt. It's been months with Mary and couldn't be happier. A
