I can't recommend a place that has no respect for the employees. It's the animal handler who keep those animals alive and they are paid $. They get told to talk about issues they are having but then get told excuses for other people behavior. "Some people have strengths and some people have weaknesses", is how it was addressed why half the crew worked harder than the rest. The hard working people get run off when the people who slack but don't complain get to stay. It doesn't matter how well you clean, how well you handle harder to adopt animals, it doesn't even matter if you creat a huge community project for the entire company, you will only get paid $8, and can get fired without a reason. read more

My partner and I found his lifelong friend at second chance! The staff were so kind and surprisingly calm. The dogs all seemed incredibly relaxed and sweet tempered. All of the staff and volunteers seemed to take very good care of them. They will let you have one on one time with the animals and they seem hopeful that you will adopt! read more

I have been thinking about adopting a puppy or dog for almost 3 years now. While I was at the 2018 Norman Music Fest, they had a booth up with 2 puppies, and I absolutely fell in love with them. Although I was ready to pay the adoption fee and take them home right then, I was told I would have to put in an application. Makes sense. Don't want to adopt out to someone with a record of animal abuse. Their application process was so difficult, but I finally got my application submitted that night. Their website definitely needs work. There are so many dogs listed that did not have accurate breeds on them. Some dogs went without pictures, and others with terrible photos. I hadn't heard anything, so on their next open date, I went in. There was a woman that seemed very annoyed that I came in. She told me that the puppy had been adopted and there wasn't a list, so that if she is returned for whatever reason, they could immediately put her in another home - no, they are just back in the shelter. The dog that I fell in love with was still listed as available when I had started to write this, 2 days later. And then a week later when I checked. I wasn't offered a tour of the shelter or to check out any of the available dogs. I'll find another shelter to support which wants to find these cats and dogs homes. read more

Just moved here from San Diego last month after being transferred. I really wanted to adopt a beautiful puppy after my ex kept our dog. The lady that answered the phone could not be bothered with any questions and was incredibly short and rude. I feel bad for any dog that has to be around that kind of negativity. Went there a couple of years ago (2012) to look around and was met with rude and unprofessional teenagers. Didn't seem to be an actual adult around to help or give any kind of helpful information. Went back thinking stuff changed and it doesn't seem much has...So we will donate some place else. Our family is a fan of this animal shelter! They take really good care of their animals. They have you make appointments online so that everyone can social distance at their animal shelter. They require you to use hand sanitizer before seeing the animals. They are very good at what they do. We got our dog there, and she is so sweet! The staff is extremely kind. They have the cats and kittens in a cat room, which is so cute! The cat room is well decorated and the cats love it! They even have a time out room for a cat that was not being very nice, they just stay in the time out for a little bit. It's a nice little room for the cat to calm down. A passionate and homely environment with a dedicated staff and management, Second Chance has found its spot within the community and gives back just as much as it receives. Volunteers are given the opportunity to learn (and for the most part are helpful) and the animals are treated as family and are trained fairly well. Though some might see as pricey, the adoption fee isn't that bad when considering all that is included. The facility could use an upgrade, but it's impressive to note that it's been reliant on donations since its beginning, which I think shows how much Second Chance means to the local community. It's far from perfect, but with a renewed sense for quality and a more mature staff, Second Chance seems to be heading in the right direction. read more

We've adopted 2 dogs from Second Chance and they were helpful with finding the right fit for our family, yes they are a little disorganized, they are friendly most of the time but a few times they've been unfriendly. They do a lot for stray animals and I can't thank them enough for that! read more

I wish I was leaving a good review because I respect what these ppl do to help animals but the service there by the lady in charge is awful. They are rude and disorganized...I was going to get a dog from here and also donate some money, but after being told I could adopt a dog and the after I filled out all of the paper work I was told that the dog was promised to someone else and I had to wait to see if they would pick him up today. When I called back later before they closed to check to see if the other ppl took the dog, the same lady said she hadn't called back the other ppl to confirm yet if they were going to take the dog and that she couldn't call me until the next day and even let me know. I'm just going to the city pound now...I hope that adorable puppy finds a good home. read more

This place seems like a great place until you actually see the animals and have to deal with employees. Over half of the dogs are so skinny their ribs and hip bones stick out. I have visited there for weeks and looked at the dogs that have been there for weeks and they are still so skinny and malnourished. When you decide you want to adopt, there are some employees who are extremely rude and due to their laziness and attitudes make it nearly impossible to do so. After I turned in my application they said "go away". I have a large house, large back yard, two dogs at home that are healthy and happy and also are spoiled with attention. As they all just sat around doing nothing they said "we're really busy, go away". I kid you not. I wouldn't doubt it if they threw my application away so they wouldn't have to do their jobs. It's a shame that they have such a nice facility yet fail to properly take care of their animals. They need to be reported immediately. read more

Cindy, the shelter manager, treats her staff poorly so the turn-over rate is high and they rely on volunteers to run the show, which isn't the best thing for the dogs. Cindy will even turn away volunteers for committing violations like wearing flip flops and or not following other rules nobody seems to know about in advance. She is a poor leader, which is too bad because the staff is nice and they love the dogs but you never see an actual staff list on the shelter website because it changes so much. read more

My office organized a pet adoption two months prior to the actual event. We had invested a great deal of time and money into this event as our team is very passionate about shelter animals. The event had been posted in the Sunday paper and was supposed to have been covered by the local news, in hopes of finding as many homes for the animals as possible. The day of the event, the person from Second Chance, (won't mention any names) who was in charge of organizing the adoption event messaged our office Facebook page 47 minutes prior to the event start time to cancel due to her feeling of nausea. When I called the facility to see if there were any other options (other organizations that could help, someone else who could bring the animals over, etc.) the employees/volunteers were hateful and unprofessional. One even said to me, "the event organizer would know best and if she says there is no one, then there is no one else" another said to me, "this is not my doing". Additionally, no one from Second Chance has reached out to reschedule the event. I understand that unexpected things happen, but this is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. read more

My name is Shane. I was looking to invest my money into giving a puppy a loving home as well as another member to the family. I was not greeted with a smile nor was it a welcoming environment. The people there were so rude I was actually determining whether this was an actual shelter. They said my gated dog parks were not enough to adopt the puppy. They are really picky and I can understand why---but the hatred that comes from these people is just too much. I fear for the animals that stay here. To deny someone a puppy that will live in an area much bigger than the area he is in now is beyond me. We had a glowing survey for adoption, but the people there obviously do not want there dogs/cats to be adopted. You would be better off going to a shelter where the animals are actually cared for. Do not waste your time talking to the people there. If you are looking to adopt a pet from here...you better have a huge house and an animal that is familiar with dogs/puppies that do not know other dogs. (which isnt possible). Absolute disgusting staff. They should not be in charge of this business. read more
