My wife and I were looking for an 'authentic' wine tasting experience near Florence (something close enough for my wife and I to ride a moped through Florence). Paulo didn't have the most reviews online but every review I saw was 5 stars. This piqued my interest..."there's something here". We find ourselves walking in the front door of an old mom and pop shop bodega/general store. Paulo greets us warmly and we walk down some stairs to his basement. We're greeted by a pre set up tasting table that just looks fantastic. Paulo goes on to teach us about the components of the tongue and how the various fruit, nut, cheese, combinations hit the senses that just so happen to pair perfectly with his Rose wine--and that was just the beginning. To this day we continue to recommend him without reservation to all of our friends (with 10+ friends being able to experience his tasting, and each agreeing this was one of their best memories in Italy). We also continue to order his wine and olive oil direct to the US and his wine currently occupies the top shelf on our wine rack. Paulo, you're awesome!!

The tasting ( in my experience) was much more than wine tasting but a combination of cheeses, jams, mortadella, prosciutto, and of course wines which he makes. The first course included a rosé style wine and a few different cheese all of which were different ages, topped with different jams including a truffle blackberry jam and cashews which were absolutely incredible! We had been on the trek to Greve, and not purchased anything, nor had any great experiences. On the way back to our farmhouse (Antico Borgo San Lorenzo) we stopped in town to purchase some vino for our fridge. We walked in here, and were warmly greeted by Manuela. She insisted that we come sit at the rustic table, and try some wine with her. What an experience! Before we knew it, there were 5+ bottles open - plus olive oil, balsamics & bread. We were delighted as she guided us through local wines. It was a far better experience than we had found in Greve. After an hour we realized that locals were coming in & filling their own bottles with wine - something we had never seen. They have 2 reds, and 1 white on tap to "fill your own bottle" - for 1.5 euro a liter! You can purchase a bottle there, or fill your own. We immediately emptied all of our water bottles, and purchased straw covered chianti bottles to refill with house vino. The kids filled and corked bottles for the next 30 minutes. We left with: (3) 2 liter water bottles of their premium red, a giant chianti bottle of white, several bottles we enjoyed at their table, and the BEST balsamic we've ever tasted. But the biggest thing we left with was a smile. This place is the real deal, and worth a stop if you're in the Siena area. It's a fun little local find you'll want to treasure.

She was very friendly and answered all of our questions thoroughly in English. The wine tasting was excellent and she made it easy to purchase and ship a case home. We were fortunate to time our visit just before the harvest as we were able to sample the grapes as we strolled through the vineyards, accompanied by the family cat, Attilio. Elena's father joined us during the tasting and while he spoke no English, was clearly happy we were there, sampling the wines. The tour is one of our favorite memories of our two weeks in Italy. When we make it back, Poggio al Bosco will be on the itinerary.

There isn't a parking lot per se, but grassy spots and the road just sort of dead ends. We all drove here in seperate rental cars. Came here with a large group for my dear friends birthday celebration. We had the place to ourselves as a private tour, just our group was present. The place is beautiful and sprawling, no bad pictures to take. The itenary included a history of the property/family info of the winemaker, tour of the grounds, detailed lesson in wine making and fermentation process, a full (very yummy) lunch with dessert, wine tasting, and free time to explore and enjoy. Our hosts treated us so well. Staff was amazing, great service. Well worth the visit. If I hadn't traveled half way around the world, I definitely would have bought a couple of bottles. They only ship to US in bulk orders.

We did all that and much more with a wine estate tour in the beautiful countryside at Azienda Agricola La Lastra winery. Located 15 minutes from Sienna, the vineyard and countryside is a must see. A tour of the vineyards, discussion of the growing seasons, pest control, processing and the ultimate goal in wine production were all discussed during a beautiful afternoon. Builings here are straight out of an Italian countryside magazine. The actual facility, knowledgable staff and grounds are worth adding to your must do list. Overall, La Lastra has a 5-star facility and staff. The tour was informative, highly educational and incredible with the food paired with the high quality wine included in the tastings. Our tour guide, Daniella, explained the wines and motivation of Canneto while in the barrel room and made sure we had a fun tasting. The wines were all big and expressive of the land, packing a real punch without letting the alcohol overpower the taste of the grapes. Canneto is doing well recognizing their strength as a smaller producer in creating superior wines.
