This is a must visit wine shop and tasting room in a very popular square in Florence. We met Laura thru a recommendation from our cruise ship as a must stop and try the many varieties of wines available for tasting and purchase. Immediately upon entering, we were greeted with big warm and friendly smiles. Laura began telling us all about the local area wines and educating us on what wines were from certain areas of Italy and how they were produced. Very enlightening and educational. My wife and I have been wine tasting at numerous areas from Northern California, including Napa/Sonoma areas to Central and Southern California areas including Paso Robles. We would put Enoteca Pontevecchio as one of the top wine tasting shops we have ever visited. Enoteca Pontevecchio has a very large selection of wines to taste and purchase. Laura brought us many different varietals of wine to taste. She asked us what types of wine we generally prefer, and she immediately brought varieties that she thought we would enjoy. Laura was right on with her choices to try and speaks great English. She continued to educate us while bringing more tastings of wine and olive oils as well. After over an hour of pleasant conversation and and fantastic wine, we purchased a case of wine at exceptional prices. Laura handled all the paperwork and shipped our wine to our home in California. The wine arrived a couple of weeks after our return home in perfect condition. Laura is very accessible thru email and responds within the same day. Laura continues to maintain contact with us about specials the shop is having on many varietals of wine she thinks we may like. Since returning home, we have purchased more wine on numerous occasions to add to our wine collection and share with our close friends and family. Laura has always been a joy to work with and the process is extremely easy as Laura handles everything. We will definitely return to Enoteca Pontevecchio on out next visit to the Florence area. All levels of wine drinkers will enjoy this very friendly, educational, and fun experience. Take the time to read this review you won't be disappointed! I usually scroll past long reviews myself haha but I have so many great things to say about this place! Where do I begin...my husband and I are in Florence for a few days to celebrate our honeymoon, and we read rave reviews about this place. The reviews do not even do it justice! Nestled inside this beautiful row of historic businesses is this ever so charming wine boutique. Very unassuming from the outside, it's one of those hidden gems you are lucky to discover. Inside we met Laura (the sommelier and owner) who led the tasting. She introduced us to several speciality wines from many different regions in Italy. Typically wine tastings in Florence only include a Chianti or other Tuscan red wines but what we loved most about this tasting was that Laura offered us both red and white wines from many other regions. My personal favorite wine has always been a Nebiolio, which Laura knew so much about and was able to not only find me an amazing bottle but also let me taste other wines she knew I would love. The tasting also included multiple olive oils and balsamic vinaigrette's that had been aged for 50 years. I could have seriously drank the entire bottle of olive oil it was incredible! Laura's daughter explained the different notes in the olive oil and vinaigrettes and later we learned that she will train to become Italy's youngest Sommelier. After the tasting ended Laura helped me find some of my other favorite brut Proseccos and introduced me to a delicious sparkling white wine called "Spumante". (Highly recommend tying this) She also explained charts on sugar ratios for different types of wine to help me know in the future what key words to look for since I try to avoid sweet wines! As we happily rang out our bottles of wine and started to pay for our bottles, Laura told us that the tasting was free! She said she never charges for wine tastings because she wants people to be happy and free to taste wine without paying for it. I mean wow. This place was seriously something special! Ten years ago I was a 22 year old senior in college and stumbled upon this wine shop with several of my friends. We were invited in for a tasting and enjoyed the most quaint and comfortable wine and oil tasting. I loved the atmosphere, the friendly faces and the education on the process of obtaining wines for all to enjoy. Flash forward to last week, I'm mindlessly walking around Florence, enjoying the day and I do a double take as I walk past something familiar, the same exact wine shop I was in ten years ago! I walk in and explain (to who happened to be the owner) how I was here ten years ago, (which I still couldn't believe) and I have always wanted to find the wine I had but could not remember what it was but I had it saved somewhere. They told me to take my time and let them know when I found it and they would see what they could do to help me get it. After a few minutes I found out it was Laura Moscato D'Asti and they insisted I sit down and enjoy a glass because they had it in the shop! With the first sip I was instantly transported back to be being here for the first time, enjoying every minute of being present with my friends. Laura sat down with me, loving the story and introducing me to her dog, Romeo. We have found friends and our Tuscan wine broker for life. In Florence for the first time, we wanted to find a place that would ship back wine to the Northeast in the States. Walking to the Duomo we just happened upon Enoteca Pontevecchio because of the "We Ship" sign in the window. What we didn't realize was that we were walking into one of our best memories in Florence. Laura greeted us at the door and quickly swept us away on a personal tour of local boutique wines of Tuscany with a customized wine tasting based on what we explained our likes were. She then proceeded to take us on a similar journey of Tuscan balsamic vinegar and olive oils. Needless to say, we walked out with not only all the gifts of which we were searching for family members back home (custom shipped backed to the States), but really felt we found our lifelong brokers for any sort of boutique style wines, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar from Tuscany. We can't thank Laura and Tony enough for allowing us into their family and celebrating our expanding family with us, even if for a couple of hours. I visited this impressive wine shop last year while on vacation in Florence. My guide set up a private tasting for me - wines, olive oils and balsamic vinegars. The olive oils and balsamic vinegars were great, but the wines were excellent! After returning home, I placed an order for wine based on what I had tasted and received my shipment as promised. While I haven't met Laura or Tony personally, Laura and I have communicated via email many times. She responds to emails promptly (usually within a few hours). Both Laura and Tony are very helpful and knowledgeable about their wines. Last month when I ordered another shipment, Tony suggested a wine based on my preferred flavor profile and his recommendation was FANTASTIC! I appreciate the personal service Laura and Tony provide even though I'm in New York and they are in Florence. I visit Tony and Laura's wine shop every year. I take groups of 24-28 people from the USA to experience the tasting of their products and get a little education about wine along the way. The shop is a perfect location if you are in the center of Florence. Pop in anytime to learn about wines and fine a nice bottle for a gift or yourself. I recently order a bottle of Barollo and Balsamic that had delivered 25 of my clients as a Christmas gifts. They handled everything, from shipping to printing a note and selecting a nice wine and balsamic. I ordered simply by email and provided the mailing address. I have been working with Enoteca Pontevecchio for over 12 years and now I feel like I have a family to visit when I return to Italy with my groups. What a tremendous experience! We decided to spend the day in Florence and desperately wanted to do wine tasting of local wines when we found this gem! Our hostess was exceptional and treated us like long established friends. We samples amazing wines, balsamics, olive oils and of course limoncello. The wine was amazing, the 15 year old balsamic incredible and the limoncello was among the best we had the whole trip in Italy. They also offer shipping to the states which we took advantage of while there. And have taken advantage of again since our return to the states. It's and easy process and Laura and Tony are amazing to work with and make the whole transaction simple. We were fortunate to hear about this amazing wine and olive oil shop through a friend....and what a great recommendation! It is a wonderful place just a short walk from Piazza Santa Croce in Florence. Laura and Tony are wonderful people, and Laura especially goes out of her way to always make it a great experience for everyone that comes through the door. They do wine tastings for groups, and all of their wines are excellent. Laura and her staff are very knowledgeable about all of their wines and oils, and make it a fun experience. My wife and I were introduced to Tony approximately 14 years ago. My wife and daughter were introduced to Laura a couple of years later. We have been dealing with them ever since so we offer a knowledgeable opinion of them. The wines they offer are superb and well priced. Every year we purchase wine from them that they hand pick. Never disappointed. Always great. We are constantly questioned about where we get the wine. I received a case of Chianti Classico two weeks ago. A case of 2018 olive oil is on the way this week. We found the shop five years ago and visited again in 2016. In between we order by email. The wines are first rate from producers we won't find in the USA. I rely on Laura and Tony for advice and have been impressed. Such an adorable wine shop and super friendly and welcoming for tourists!! Serena and Claudia were so helpful and informative during our tasting and helped us pick out the the perfect Italian white and red wines we were looking for.
