I was looking to do boxing around my area in culver city and seb's came up first. I was scared at first to join because the reviews were really intense, but I decided to push myself. Seb is very personal and a really cool guy. I went the first day to check it out and see if I liked it, so it was cool that i got to try it out. After he told me of his reasonable price for a whole month of 3x a week boxing, and he is very lenient considering im a recent grad of ucla. I am ADDICTED!!! After 2 weeks I feel my arms really toned, and after 3 days Im not as sore and a cold shower really helps. Its a high intensity work out, but you need that push and conditioning to continue to improve. You need to have that mindset to continually push yourself because it isnt just a workout and then youre done. It doesnt work like that, and its just an hour so you can push yourself that much. He will train you like a boxer with technique and hand-eye coordination. I have been fortunate that its summer and there are a lot of people on vacation so Ive been getting a lot of private training. We do an intense warmup, then work on our boxing, and then we get toning and conditioning at the end. I would advise you to get gloves and handwraps in the beginning if youre serious but I borrowed handwraps for the 1st 2 days until I got my own. THis place is really worth it, and Seb really pushes you, be in it for the art of boxing and youre good:) read more

I like to think I keep myself relatively fit with running, swimming and biking but boxing with Seb was another level. The range of motion, muscles used, and coordination needed is a much needed change of pace for when you've become conditioned to other sports (especially endurance sports as I've done). Seb is a great coach who is able to mix patience, as he teaches you the technique, with really pushing you to work hard to your absolute limit. He also has a great sense of humour so although I "suffer for good", we're still able to have a laugh at the end of the day. To pile on what others have said, Seb is truly top notch and a master of the craft. I have lifted weights for over twenty years and played sports my entire life. Boxing has always been something that I wanted to try, mainly for the health aspects, and decided to finally pursue it earlier this year. Initially, I started at that well known place where you box and burn (wink, wink), mainly based upon the Yelp reviews and flexibility. Fast forward two months into training there and I had not learned a thing. The reviews are written in return for discounts, and the staff does not know a thing about boxing. Not only was the boxing only 25% of the circuit, the time spent with the 'certified boxing trainers' (try to figure out where one gets certified as a boxing trainer, smh) was comical and demonstrated their complete lack of knowledge. Searching for a real option, I came across Seb. Seriously, just sign up now. Seb not only is extremely knowledgeable, but is genuinely a great human being. The repeated drilling of technique is exactly what I was after, and it is seriously the most difficult/challenging workout that I have ever done in my life. Five months in and I'm more cut than I have ever been in my life, and my agility and footwork is steadily improving. I went from tripping over my feet to looking like I'm dancing with the stars. I really can't recommend Seb enough and can guarantee that all of these reviews are genuine and not written in return for a discount. Seb is the greatest boxing coach in Los Angeles. I started training with Seb's boxing class the summer of 2017 after I was introduced by a friend. Never have I been through such a strenuous and intense workout! For the first 10 minutes of the class Seb leads in us in a warm up which will leave you in a pool of sweat. We then transition to pad/partner work where we team up with other members of the class and work on drills together. This is my favorite part of the class because the people are very welcoming and friendly. They give you tips and tricks on how to improve punches/stance etc. During this portion of the class Seb walks around from group to group critiquing and giving positive feedback as well. We end the class with 10 minutes of core workouts that will leave you unable to stand up straight. As a former collegiate athlete, I can certify that Seb will push you to your next level no matter what your current conditioning is in. Discovered Seb Boxing in June 2016, and I'm very grateful for having done so. Seb Zewdie is a personable, motivating, and firm boxing coach who strives to ensure each of his students has a grasp of the fundamentals before anything else. Other reviewers have touched upon his killer warmups; those 10 minute warm-ups (from jumping jacks to jump-roping to more complex moves) tested me in a way that none of the sports I did in High School or College could. They emphasize full-body coordination and help build aerobic endurance, which is a good foundation for boxing. Seb drills proper punching technique to a T, and ensures his students pay attention to the minute details such as hand placement and foot alignment. Combinations are drilled on the mitts, defensive principles such as blocking, parrying, and slipping are taught, and more advanced students can test their skills in sparring rounds. I myself began to notice improvements in my punching power with a simple adjustment of weight distribution on my feet, or increased swivel of the torso. I noticed improvements in my reaction time and instincts, flinching less when a punch came my way. I started Seb's classes unable to skip rope and within a few months was able to skip patterns with ease. I began very naïve to the art of punching (having only consumed it on TV) and learned very quickly that details matter, and that technique can override muscle bulk and strength. I got into boxing about 2 years ago. I did it just for the work out, and it sure is a tough workout!! But working with Seb has made me appreciate Boxing in a whole new way. I can now understand why it's called the "Sweet Science" Seb puts a strong emphasis on high paced cardio and really works with you on the technical side of boxing. I dont have any plans on competing but I feel like Seb is getting me to competition shape, and If one were to want to compete he'd be the guy to get you ready. I've dropped a little bit of weight but more importantly I've burned a lot of fat and toned up quite a bit. Class size varies, sometimes as few as 10 and as many as 20 or so, with all different leves of experience. I've been training with Seb close to a year at Sony where he teaches private classes for the studio employees. Seb has a very unique talent adapting to the needs of each student. He trains seasoned athletes as well as complete beginners. even with a full class, it always feels like you are getting personalized attention. I sat down for a second in Seb's class and he said with a smile on his face, "Get up. This isn't the beach." He combines humor with great technical training, taking the intimidation out of learning boxing. He has a way of gauging your skills, meeting you where you are, and pushing you to the next level.
