There's always that little hidden gems that you happen to stumble upon without even knowing. Places…read morethat you can walk by and observe from a distance. In many cases you walk by, admire from a far, take a picture and move on. Well, this wasn't the case. Mackays Guest House, right in the heart of Oban picturesque waterfront. A beautiful property run by Iona Mackechnie who was the sweetest and loving soul. A warm Scottish smile greeted us upon arrival. Checking in was quite a breeze. Once inside, the foyer with its soothing calm beachy vibe and tartan pattern. Beautiful cool tones on the walls and throughout the property. We had room number 1 which was one of the ones downstairs. Once you walk in, it's pretty massive and spacious. Modern vibe with its cleans line and cool color palettes perfectly suitable for the sea. Nice comfortable bed awaits you as well as two plush comfortable sling back chairs with the million dollar view of the waterfront. Heater fireplace in front of the bed for those chilly nights which is a given. As well as the flatscreen television above. You also have your en-suite which is nice as a lot of places don't offer them. It's pretty spacious with plenty of room for sharing. Walk in shower, all your toiletries offered. To top it off, the warm Scottish welcome of their traditional drink the irn-brn soda and tea cakes were on the dresser. What a sweet little welcome treat. Location is just minutes from the beach. Walking distance from the main town where plenty of restaurants and shops are. The ferry and train station. There's parking available right in front but based on first come. Street parking also available along the front but not quite sure what the restrictions are. Mackays Guest House is a must if you're looking for a quaint weekend getaway or for a longer stay for that nice R&R break. Perfect location, friendly face, beautiful view of the waterfront, minutes from town and restaurant. An overall amazing experience. Highly recommend.

There isn't really a common area to hang out in, other than the breakfast room in the morning. And that is kept at a minimum as breakfast is served from 8-9am. Our room (Room 4) looked out at Oban Bay. Which was very nice. After returning from dinner in town - which is a short walk away - we just sat in front of the great bay window in our room, drank tea, read, and watched boats sail by. The room was rather large and nicely decorated. Not only did our room have the window sitting area, it also had a separate sitting area between the king size bed and bathroom. Parking is onsite and very easy. We would definitely stay here again. Breakfast in the

The Wigwam is well thought out and very comfortable. It has everything you need for a stay (we stayed 5 nights) over Christmas, it was lovely and warm once inside, very very clean and great facilities (Mini Kitchen, Fridge, Kettle, TV, Warm Shower, Wifi). It is so great to make a coffee and sit out the front of the Wigwam and look out over the loch - would love to come back in the summer and use the picnic area and fire pits! Great communication from the very friendly owners and nothing was too much trouble. Dornie is a great place to visit on its own with beautiful views and a lovely little pub but it is also a great place to position yourself for visiting the surrounding areas and Skye for day trips. We will 100% be back!

The location was on loch long (a lake) in a good position to see Eilean Donan castle, Kyle of lochlash, and tour the isle of Skye. The town is small but we had dinner out both nights and we were pleased with the food. I will definitely stay at another wigwam in the future. I wish they had wifi.

This was the loveliest place we stayed on our entire tour of Scotland--breathtakingly beautiful,…read morepeerless hospitality, the restaurant is a treasure; Tony and Fiona have turned this historic mansion into a gem. It was once the parsonage, the minister's house, for the church across the street; he held a prestigious role in the community and the house shows it. There are only six rooms total (so book early!) plus the dining room and living room/lounge downstairs, and that coziness fostered friendly connections with the other guests. Our first night there, Tony built a fire in the fire pit on the front lawn and we pulled benches up close to it to enjoy the warmth as we watched the sun set over the bay. Another night we enjoyed sunset from the couch in the lounge, looking out the large front window, browsing coffee-table books of Scotland's landscapes and chatting with another guest over wine and later, whisky. Matthew, the very personable and knowledgeable host, made several excellent beverage recommendations based on what we told him we liked; it all felt somehow so luxurious and so homey at the same time. We stayed in Torosay (each room is named for a notable location around the Isle of Mull) and our window looked out over the back garden, where in the morning I could see the (brilliant, awards-worthy) head chef Pauline cutting herbs for the restaurant. The room had an adorable tea-and-coffee service tray on the dresser with a mini-French-press, electric kettle, and coffee grounds in a mason jar, and the hallway mini-fridge had tiny bottles of milk, for that ultra-important first cup of coffee. Everything was immaculately clean; there were cozy bathrobes and thoughtful amenities like makeup remover and cotton pads in the bathroom; the shower water pressure was great; the bed was super comfortable; we were even able to have some laundry done while we were there. (Thanks again, Fiona!) During your stay I also highly recommend you check out the pastries at the recently-opened bakery just across the street, Chronicle, and stroll over to the pub for a pint at the Craignure Inn. I hope you have as joyful a trip to Mull as we did; this beautiful lodge and the lovely people we met there will always have a special place in my heart. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
