I got stuck in Seattle as a travel nurse when the pandemic began (vaccine allergy/anaphylaxis) and have since had to give up my career. And as the song goes, people are strange when you're a stranger. Everyone there has been so kind and welcoming to me, even when I'm a little cantankerous, because I'm used to running the show wherever I go (head nurse/charge nurse/educator). Patient and tolerant when I'm at my worst, friendly and conversant when I'm at my best, they have softened the blow of what I've experienced since losing it all. I commend their professionalism, and sweet demeanor, it makes all the difference in the world when you're down and out. Thank you again, everyone of you! Andrea...

We lost all our holiday moneys along with our rent and because we didn't have our ID all we could get was an emergency bag .all that contained was a few can good and some crackers and some stuff I didn't know how to make so we didn't get the things that everyone else received and they had our info in the computer already. They said they had to make sure we were not lying about our address what kind of shit is that who would lie to get help for the holidays I feel they go way overboard about proof of who you say you are. The management there is poor msnsgement. To deny people and then they pick what they think you will eat. Don't care for the people that work the front desk very rude and no compassion for the community

My family joined to help my daughter form her own sense of Jewish identity which she started asking about when she was eight. She now has a sense of Jewish identity that would never have been so well formed had we not engaged with this community. And I have a much deeper understanding of my own relationship with Judaism. I'm Jewish because my father was Jewish and I choose to be a Jew, my mother never converted; they were both firm atheists. The Overbrook delicatessen was my temple, ritual language: Yiddish, ritual foods: lox and other smoked fish, ritual giving: Israel Fund - can on the counter next to the register. Humor was the practice. I've been teaching in the Shalom Sunday school for seven or eight years now and I love the inclusivity and diversity even within our own tribe. This is the place to be Jewish if you love the history, culture and holidays but don't like the irrational parts.

I wanted to teach my son the Jewish traditions and beliefs of my people in a non-religious way. Secular Jewish Circle was a perfect fit for us. My son has now received a secular humanist Bar Mitzvah, and is well on his way to becoming a leader in the community. I can't say enough about the Shalom Sunday and B'nai Mitzvah program SJC offers. And I've found a community of like-minded secular Jews who feel like family to me.
