Sunset Hill, Ballard

My compliments to the chefs that prepared the meals for Tuesday, October 13, 2020…read more but not anymore Haven't tasted the chicken yet, but know it is going to be good. I even give my dog a taste or two and I know she would eat the whole meal if I let her, maybe I should order meals for her too (you don't think she is spoiled do you?), that is OK, she is the love of my life. If you have anyone there that would like to walk her she would love it as I am housebound and don't get her out like I used to.....used to go to the dog park everyday, but not any more. Thank you for making my life so my so much happier and easier, and thank you for the nice delivery people, they care, you all care!!!! Terry Logan

I'm not a senior, nor do I play one on t.v. I am however, a volunteer here, and I have to sing the…read morepraises of this senior hangout. This inviting place, just around the corner from the Ballard Locks, is a great place to send your parents, grandparents, neighbors, elders in general. There is a weekday lunch served daily, for just $3 a person. If you're under 60 and want to accompany your grams, it's $6 for you and lunch is pretty much made from scratch, no awful canned slop served here! There are tons of activities, classes, events, trips, and a weekly Wednesday night dinner for $7 per person. They show movies after dinner for $2 a person and a bingo game with a $6 buy-in. Every two months they do RAINBOW BINGO! How cool is that? A drag queen hostess calling bingo in a senior center? Hooray! Nurses come during the week to do free blood pressure/blood sugar screenings and foot care. Did I mention fitness classes? There is even a senior Zumba class, slowed down and geared toward the older set, but still full of energy and joyful Latin jams. There is legal and financial help available and even tax prep. It's so vital that older folks have a resource to keep busy, fulfilled and involved in living and this is a great place to start.

You may run into someone you know from community and there's a nostalgia factor. This centralized gathering hub brings me back to camps and baggy pants and looney tunes shirts, breakdancing, Massive Monkey and free food. Every time I walk by the big hall by the entrance I am engulfed with memories of parties and food. I can smell the lumpia and pancit, barbacoa, Ezell's, Costco pizza, and home made ribs bought from Viet Wa and smoked. The ever lasting smell of Red Apple sides and Delite bakery empanadas and pastries further add to the memories. I remember randomly being invited to a Nigerian celebration and ate fufu balls, fish, and stews. Delicious! I appreciate the multigenerational care at Jefferson. It's a center where no one goes hungry, community looks after one another, and preschoolers to the ARC programs are supported. Yesler is a close second in Seattle for CC and Chinatown is third. Each has a special place in my heart and I appreciate everyone at Parks.

I primarily use for Toy Gym which is full of different types of vehicles (and once, a soccer ball.) It can be very popular - lots of kids on windy/rainy days. It's nice that the outside park is right there so you can switch gears depending on the weather. Sometimes the kids are rambunctious, that's no fault of Tot Gym but just an FYI.
