5/5 Stars - Outstanding work after our basement water emergency! We were overwhelmed when water…read moreleaked into our basement due to a burnt out sump pump from the heavy rains that overloaded not only our sump and backup sump but many many other homes in Ames and surrounding areas on July 4th. We hired Reform Total Fix and Finish Home Solutions to handle the basement rebuild, and they were phenomenal from start to finish! Firstly, Ayanna was so great to talk with when arranging everything over the phone. Just a really kind and understanding person. Then, Robert came out quickly, gave us a fair and clear quote based on our needs. They cut out and replaced the damaged drywall, taped, mudded, and textured and painted it so smoothly that you can't even tell where the damaged drywall was cut out. After that, they installed brand-new carpet and padding that completely revived the space. They kept the work area clean, showed up on time every day, and finished right on schedule. It was so nice to have that space back that our family loved to spend quality time in. It felt like the flooding robbed us and Reform Total Fix & Finish Home Solutions rebuilt not only our physical space but a return to better mental health for our family! I would happily recommend (and have been to my family and friends) Reform Total Fix & Finish Home Solutions to anyone needing reliable home repairs or general contracting work!

I'm another Ames resident with computer issues and after calling HomeTown Tech my issues are over…read more I chose them because they have a high Better Business Bureau rating but I'll stay because they are excellent at what they do. They went over and above the call of duty in helping me and my 2 computers. I moved here from CA years ago and this company has attributes that shout Iowa Nice. Very intelligent and very knowledgeable and highly skilled but with none of the gimmicks and hard sell pressure. None. I highly recommend these people - and I tend to be picky!

I was told 'at most 2-3 weeks, probably less' to get an assessment on repairing a laptop fan error. Narrow margin in the worst case, but I can deal with 3 weeks before getting my data back. One business day before the three weeks were up, I called to figure out what was happening- the only point of contact that I had was a new hire at the front desk, who could only tell me that my file was empty, but assured me that the assessment could have started, and that she'd direct the tech to call me. The tech never called. On Monday, I called at 2 PM. This was foolish, as the 10 AM to 6 PM hours on the google listing actually mean 'you can only reach people at 10 AM', so the automated voice messaging system told me to check the google listing for the business hours that they update daily. Tuesday, three weeks and a day in. I called at 10 AM, and was put in contact with the manager, who apologized for the delay. They'd had a family emergency and were gone for a week, and the 2-3 week backlog had gotten worse- fair enough. They told me my assessment was more difficult than expected, but she'd call the owner and primary tech in and the assessment would be done Thursday. Thursday, I hear nothing. Friday I call to pick up my laptop and cancel the job. I am fed up with the experience, with having to pull teeth to get any idea what's happening, and getting wrong information when I get information. I get an appointment for noon. Shortly before noon, I get a call from the owner who says they're putting it back together, hopefully in time for the appointment, and they expect the fan error to be fixed when they do. They don't have it finished, and it turns out the reason the assessment took so long was a key came off and part of the case snapped while they were disassembling the laptop, and they were trying to find a replacement. As accomodation and to mollify me they let me backstage and let me do some basic data recovery with their gear while the tech reassembled the laptop. +1 star I guess?? Unfortunately, once the laptop is reassembled the fan error is not fixed, and it's clear that it's not the kind of mechanical blockage that should be a quick cheap fix. At the end of the day my $50 assessment fee and four weeks of waiting got me 'unknown fan error that'll be too expensive to actually be worth fixing.' Worth the $50, but not worth the 4 weeks with no idea what is happening. Why is the business structured so the only point of contact clients have is unable to tell whether the assessment has started? Why does the manager being gone for a week mean a full extra week of delay? Why was I not called when it was clear they wouldn't make the estimate? Why was I not called when the breakage occurred? Why was I not called Thursday when it was clear they wouldn't make THAT estimate either? Why did I have to actively call at 10 AM every time to ever find anything out about the status of my case? It is partly my fault for accepting the initially stated delay, and it is partially faultless for the manager's troubles. Nonetheless, I fully regret coming here and will not be doing so again.

Professional, punctual, and with quality responsiveness, we see this as a terrific value. So thankful that we located Purple Cow Junk Removal, as they were terrific, an outstanding combination of efficiency, kindness, personality, and hard work. They were responsive, highly communicative, and did their job well. We enjoyed meeting and working with their staffer Kelly, who made the whole experience of cleaning out a loved one's home tolerable and positive while emotional. Kelly worked his butt off, and could not have been better to work with. Purple Cow will price match another estimate, but for me, there is no doubt that we will use them again due to their overall performance on this challenging project. We are grateful.

Job was never finished because they didn't understand what was asked despite at length…read morewalk-throughs. Asked for weed removal, weed barrier installation, removal of yard rock and mulching. The owner (Kelly) walked around with me and took pictures of every area I specified. We discussed at length the volunteer trees that I wanted removed and he took photos and made notes on his phone. Their 'crew' showed up fairly late in the morning. A younger man asked for clarification on what was done and I did a second walk through with him explaining everything. Two of the four employees they sent were not very efficient. I took photos of them sitting on my front porch and not working (with times) and sent this to the owner. They also did not have loppers, I lent them mine. Unsure of why you wouldn't bring this on a landscaping job. Before they left for the day, they informed me of a paint spill on my driveway. Promised to return to clean it up but let it sit overnight. It's unclear as to why their employees are using paint cans as chalk blocks for trailers, but my driveway will never be the same. They 'completed' the job while I was not home so I was not able to speak to them about my concerns. Did not receive a call or message that they were done. They did not finish weeding the entire side of the fence or back part of the yard. I asked them to weed, place weed barrier, and mulch these sections. It was left weed whacked (but appears as if the operator has some vision issues... My 7-year old could have done a better job). When asked about why the job was not completed correctly, they claimed they did not know and would need to charge more money. Any invoices sent to us were not professionally done and did not outline individual line item costs so it's unclear how much they actually are charging for materials. Additionally, we tried to use them for snow removal service last winter. They did not show up once (and didn't call), and it took a poor Google review for them to show up any time after that. Considering their poor work ethic with my yard work, I won't be using them for snow removal or any other work around my property. Please be cautious when hiring this company!
