I only give a negative when a business really deserves it. I don't do reviews on that other browser site, nor social media. As you can see, I previously gave CK them a 5-star review, but my recent experience deserves an honest and factual update. Short version: Please get a 2nd estimate! Long version: Our pool pump was leaking bad and needed a replacement. A CK tech came out promptly, reviewed our situation, and said they would email an estimate. I thought the estimate was not only high, but very high. I got 2 other estimates and they were far less. Upon further research, I noticed CK hoped to charge us an $800 markup for the pump itself and charge us DOUBLE for the separate controller. I completely understand a markup, as they have to stay in business, but these were outrageous. Then the tech spent a great deal of time telling me he could not even install the new pump unless we agreed to have a very expensive "bonding rod" installed and pulling up our pavers. Since our plumbing runs under that area, I really wanted other opinions before I agreed to such a drastic and expensive change. Well, it turns out we already had a bonding rod there, not 12 inches away from our old, leaking pump. Was this an honest mistake, or something more? I guess that is something for the owner and his tech to decide. So, we used another company, saved over $1,500, did not need our pavers pulled up, nor pay for an unnecessary "bonding rod" that was already there. I once was very happy with Chlorine King but no more. If I had read the owner's responses here, I would have never even called them about replacing our pump in the first place. If he put as much effort into customer service as he does his negative review "defense?" Both he and all of his customers would have a lot less headaches!

After he busted out my simple sand filter and installing the this truly (labor intensive) filter which the customer must pull apart and clean every few months, it turned out the whole time the issue was with a clogged pool pump. I was sold a $900 filter that I did not need, but had no choice now because the technician busted up my old sand filter. In short, I would not trust this company to change my cat litter box. We really can't say enough good things about Tilney. Their team has been incredible through our…read moreentire journey of completing our home. We interviewed several pool builders in St. Pete, and ultimately landed on Tilney to build a pool/spa/deck for our home. We ended up working with Drew - he's really awesome to work with, took time to listen to our wants, and came up with a great plan, and killed it on execution. When they say it takes 6-8 weeks to finish, they are committing to that - they are on top of their scheduling and very mechanical in ensuring work is completed according to schedule. The pool looks great, the deck looks great, and we're excited to start enjoying the finished product. The most important thing we look for in a contractor is great communication, stands behind their work, and delivers what they say they will. Tilney's team nailed all three of them. Even after getting everything wrapped up, they stood behind some adjustments needed and took time to clearly explain maintenance and equipment use. Would not hesitate to use Tilney again and have recommended to many friends and neighbors already. There's a reason why multiple pools on our block are built by their team. (For comparison/clarity: The others we had considered were Oasis and Sekas. Oasis didn't feel like the right fit - nothing against them but felt like we were more of a cog/widget. Sekas provided a drawing on a napkin for us after 2 months of disappearing, with a price that would make your mouth drop and acted like he was doing us a favor - not sure where that entitlement came from).

I had Pete come out to advise on how to properly cap off pool equipment prior to a house demolition…read moreso it wouldn't be damaged. This was intended to be a paid service visit, but upon arrival he said the work was very simple and that he wasn't even going to charge me, mentioning that he lives in Dunedin as well. Unfortunately, the interaction quickly became unprofessional and disrespectful. When the conversation briefly shifted to pool heating options, I mentioned that I was considering photovoltaic solar panels tied into a heat pump system that would also serve the house. Pete immediately responded by calling this "the singular dumbest idea ever." When I clarified that I was not referring to traditional solar pool-heating panels (roof-mounted water circulation), but rather PV panels feeding a heat pump, he continued to dismiss the idea outright without listening. I made it clear that I would only pursue any option if it made financial sense. Despite that, he repeated that it was "the dumbest idea ever," which was unnecessary and insulting. He then became irritated, said I wasn't listening, and abruptly announced he was leaving. Before leaving, he made an entirely inappropriate comment asking if I was "on psych meds." This remark was made directly to me in a professional service setting and was shocking, offensive, and completely unacceptable. While Pete may have technical experience, his communication style is dismissive and unprofessional. Disagreeing with a customer or choosing not to take on a job is one thing; insulting them and questioning their mental health is another. Prospective customers should be aware of this experience when deciding who to hire.
