My 77 yr. old mother purchased a refrigerator from Sears in Porterville on 12/10/2010. Hers had quit, she was in a hurry, and caring for my very ill father. She realized it was too small and 6 weeks later I took her to Sears to find an exchange (you have 90 days from date of purchase). The manager, Tom Hughes, told us in a very loud voice "You can't return a used refrigerator, we can't sell a used refrigerator!" - I showed him the receipt giving 90 days for return, and he said (yelled) that doesn't apply to appliances and electronics. I asked to see that in writing. He walked to the sales desk and started looking through paperwork, when his sales assistant, Luz, asked what the problem was. I explained he had told us we could not exchange the refrigerator purchased 12/10 because it was used. She said of course you can, you just pay a 15% restocking fee (which we knew). She said he must have thought you didn't want to pay the restocking fee. She saved the day, my mother got her refrigerator, During this time he disappeared never to be seen again. Later that day (I live out of town) I visited with 3 friends who all said they would never shop in that store again - "he is a rude jerk" to quote one of them. Can't imagine why anyone would subject themselves to his treatment. Have to say Luz is the shining star in that store - totally customer-service oriented. read more
