I visited this office for a…read moreconsultation on 11.11.2025 AT 3:00PM regarding gum recession and paid the consultation fee $225.00 out of pocket, since my insurance had already covered. However, on December 3rd, 2025 almost one month after my first appointment I received a call from the office manager stating that I now needed a second consultation with the same doctor, and that I would be charged another consultation fee of $225.00, even though I had already approved moving forward with the gum graft surgery. This additional fee was never disclosed upfront. Had this been explained from the beginning, I would not have scheduled my first appointment and would have chosen a different office. Because of this lack of transparency, I asked them to cancel my account and all future appointments. I will not continue care at an office that is unclear about costs or adds unexpected fees after the fact. I was also told by the provider that she could only perform grafting on the external (cheek-facing) side of the tooth and not on the interior side. After contacting multiple periodontal offices in Sacramento, I learned that other providers are able to perform grafting on both sides when needed. In my experience, this office has been disorganized and unclear. If you are seeking treatment for gum recession or gum graft surgery, I strongly recommend finding a provider who is transparent about fees and fully capable of performing the procedure you need. wish you the best of luck. Austin Mendez.

BEWARE: The front office & billing staff is passive aggressive and impatient (screenshots for…read morereference). I was referred for a gum graft and paid $1.4k out of pocket on the day of surgery. A billing staff member who identified herself as Erin told me that my primary insurance (Delta) had overpaid and the insurance company typically refunds the credit to the patient. When I contacted my primary insurance, they told me this does not happen. I was then told by the same billing staff member that the office - not the insurance - would be issuing the refund, contradicting what I had previously been told. During this process, I received a voicemail from them instructing me to stop contacting my insurance and let the office "handle it" as that would be "in my best interest"?? When I asked for an invoice or itemized statement to understand the charges and credit on my account, I was told that invoices are not provided. And to top it off, I have to get 2/4 teeth revised (without IV anesthetic which the office will not cover) because half the gum graft was unsuccessful.

He missed two appointments this year due to health and medication he is on, and upon realizing this, he proactively called to apologize and even offered to pay for the missed sessions. The staff assured him it was fine and expressed understanding and rebooked him to come in today at 9:30am. Today, when he arrived for his scheduled appointment, he was informed that it had been canceled, and that a message had been left for him. We did not receive any messages or missed calls from them. He told the receptionist that and her reply was "OH" that's all she said like she knew they didn't call him. When he attempted to reschedule, he was informed that due to the previously missed appointments, he would need to pay $200 upfront for the next session. ODD why didn't they say that before? Makes no sense to us. The demeanor of the staff during this interaction was unprofessional, as it appeared that today's visit was intentionally scheduled as a sort of payback for his previously missed appointments, they never intended to see him and planned to waste his time just to tell him that and smirk while doing so. Not a great way to treat a patient. So unprofessional.

My 18 year old was in pain from one of his wisdom tooth, and the Sacramento Valley Dental Specialists were able to get him in first thing on Saturday morning at 7:00am. The front staff were amazing. The office was so immaculate, and the beverage bar they had was also really nice. The techs and assistants who took us back to take pictures, and go over billing details were great too. My son bravely opted to have all 4 wisdom teeth extracted the same day. Dr. Amir went over my son's xray thoroughly, and explained what the procedure was going to be like. He was kind, patient, and had a great personality. Dr. Amir definitely made the experience for my son more calming and comfortable. After the surgery, they provided my son with a "wrap around head/chin" ice pack for the swelling, which had 2 ice packs one on each side of his cheeks, making icing hands-free. So nice. The healing process went very well. Overall, Dr. Amir and the staff really know what they are doing, and they truly care. I highly recommend them!

While on vacation I started experiencing extreme sensitivity and a throbbing sensation on my bottom…read moreright wisdom tooth (32). Upon returning from my trip, I scheduled an emergency appointment with Luc Dental Care. An x-ray confirmed a large cavity in my wisdom tooth. I was immediately referred to Sacramento Valley Dental Specialists for a tooth extraction. I spoke with a friendly representative at Sacramento Valley Dental Specialists who was able to schedule a next day consultation and oral surgery. The following day I arrived to a group of friendly employees at the front desk that greeted me. Since I filled out the intake form prior to the appointment, I was only seated for two minutes before being ushered to the back. An employee took my blood pressure, administered an x-ray, and informed me that the surgeon would be with me shortly. Shortly after Dr. Fries entered the room and introduced himself. He gave me an overview of the procedure that would be conducted, asked if I had any questions, and then started a short video that informed me about post-extraction care. After the video concluded, I was ushered to another room where Dr. Fries and an employee began administering the local anesthesia. Roughly 10 minutes later, after confirming that the anesthesia had kicked in, Dr Fries began the procedure. Throughout the procedure Dr. Fries and the employee did a great job of communicating what was happening (the wisdom tooth was very stubborn in coming out) and verifying that I was not in pain (although there was slight discomfort). Three days later, strictly following the post-extraction rules, I have no pain (thankfully)...thank you Dr. Fries and the rest of the Sacramento Valley Dental Specialists team!

I had been a patient at this dental office for three years, and my experience was positive until…read morerecently. During a routine cleaning on July 20, I was told that I needed periodontal scaling and root planing on the two back lower teeth on both sides of my mouth. After receiving the treatment estimate, I called the following day because I had some questions and I wanted to ensure the procedure would be covered by my dental insurance before moving forward. I was told that obtaining preauthorization from the insurance company was the office's standard practice. My first appointment was on July 31 for treatment on one side of my mouth. Before the appointment, I was never informed that the office had not received a response from my insurance company or that coverage was still pending. I proceeded with treatment because the billing department had assured me, they would notify me if there were any issues with my insurance coverage. Since I received no communication indicating there was a problem, I reasonably believed it was appropriate to move forward. A few days later, I received a letter in the mail from my insurance company stating that the claim had been denied. I immediately contacted the dental office to notify them. To my surprise, I was told they had not received any information from my insurance company. The office then requested that I come in for an additional X-ray so they could submit more documentation in support of the claim. When I returned for the X-ray appointment, I brought the denial letter so the office could review the reason for the denial. After looking into the matter further, I learned that the documentation required by my insurance company had not been submitted correctly, and this occurred on two separate occasions. As a result, there were significant delays in processing the claim and determining whether the procedure would be covered. Throughout this process, I contacted the dental office multiple times and also worked directly with my insurance company to ensure they had all the necessary information. As a patient, I should not have had to take on the responsibility of repeatedly following up, coordinating communication, and ensuring that required documentation was submitted correctly. I relied on the office's expertise and assurances, especially after clearly expressing my desire to confirm coverage before proceeding with treatment. What made the situation even more frustrating was the lack of communication. I frequently had to initiate contact to obtain updates, and weeks would often pass without any follow-up from the office. When I specifically asked if someone could contact me once they heard back from my insurance company, the response I received was simply, "I'll try." Given the seriousness of the situation and the potential financial impact, I found that response both concerning and unprofessional. I am now in a difficult position. One side of my treatment has been completed, while the other remains unfinished, and I am facing an unexpected financial burden as a result. What has been most frustrating throughout this experience is the lack of accountability. I have repeatedly been told that the insurance company's denial is to blame, but that misses the point entirely. My concern is not the denial itself. Before any treatment began, I clearly stated that I wanted confirmation of insurance coverage before moving forward. Instead of addressing that concern, I was allowed to proceed with treatment without being informed that coverage had not yet been approved. If authorization had not been received and the necessary documentation had not been properly submitted, I do not understand why I was allowed to move forward with the procedure in the first place. Had I been informed that coverage was still pending or that additional information was needed, I would have waited for a decision before undergoing treatment. Instead, treatment proceeded despite my explicit request to be notified of any insurance issues beforehand. When I attempted to address my concerns with the office, I repeatedly felt dismissed. Staff members talked over me instead of listening, and several interactions were rude and unprofessional. I was told the doctor would contact me, yet 10 days passed without a call or follow-up, leaving me to contact the office myself. When I finally spoke with the doctor, my concerns were again dismissed, and the blame was placed entirely on the insurance company. At no point did I feel there was meaningful acknowledgment of the communication failures or the office's responsibility in how the situation was handled. As a long-time patient, I am extremely disappointed with how this situation has been handled. The poor communication, lack of accountability, and unprofessional behavior I experienced from both the staff and the doctor have significantly damaged my trust in this practice.
