My sister and I weren't too impressed. By chance we decided to stroll down to the esplanade and have a wander around and came across this little gem. It seems a lot of other ex-festival people had the same idea and decided to escape the crowds and have some seafood by the sea shore. While it was super busy at the Pelican's Nest and all the outdoor seating was taken, we ventured inside to find there were no queues and we could order straight away (no 5 mins waiting in line!). We ordered the 'Treasure Chest', were given a buzzer and went outside to wait. Food was ready in under 10 mins and we decided to take away our food and walk over to the esplanade and sit in the park to enjoy our feast. The food was delicious - fish was super fresh and flaked away nicely. We also really enjoyed the prawn cutlets - nicely butterflied and cooked to perfection. I also really like the fact that the meal came with a proper side salad. All in all it was a lovely meal, and was definitely the highlight of today - after the disappointment of the festival.

We waited about 10 mins to order and when we got up front, we put our orders in and went outside until our name was called. The plates weren't terribly expensive. Average was $17 each for a calamari and chips, a cod fish n chips, and a whole fried sea bream. Food was hot and fresh and for a take-away place, it was decent. Best part is the park across the street leading towards the Wynuum jetty. You can choose to have your food take-away and eat at the end of the pier.

Likewise with the mains, at almost $80 for a reef n beef and a wild barra, it's probably my bad for not checking the menu before we ventured out; it just cost a little more than I thought it should have. Still, wandering down reveals some great finds, and Florence Street Seafood is one of these. I stumbled in one day looking for an Indian takeaway I'd heard was good and found a little shop with big, fresh prawns at the right price. I got large tiger prawns on special for $25 which I thought was pretty good and they were fresh and delicious. The fish looked good, and athough I haven't bought any yet, it's definitiely on my list. The prices are as good as the larger seafood markets or even, dare I say it, the supermarkets (the bayside ones seem to stock a lot of seafood, some of it fresh) and I'd always rather support the small business when it stacks up well against the biggies.

Bart's isn't nearly as prominent as some of the fish and seafood places in Wynnum and Manly, although it's right on the Esplanade at Lota. You can't miss it but it doesn't jump out at you. The breakfast menu has a good range and it is really easy to order. I am a fan of breakfast here simply because it is so close to the water and the jetty for a stroll. The lamb was perfectly cooked, the poached eggs deliciously oozy, the halloumi nice and thin and not squeaky, and the rocket was impeccably dressed with shavings of parmesan and red onion to top everything off. The front of the restaurant has great harbour views while the back has beautiful lighting, cosy red chairs and impressive gold mirrors. It is a great place to go if you are looking for a quality meal, rather than takeaway chips like I normally do. They do not have a huge menu, something I actually like because it usually means they do the few items really well rather than a huge number of things to an average standard. Mains include salmon, risotto, chicken and sirloin steak. I tried the risotto and it was lovely, not dry or bland at all.
