If you are looking for a camping or RV site, seasonal or for a weekend, keep looking! Pinederosa is…read morethe last place you would ever want to spend any time at. The owner, Greg, and his girlfriend are clearly moving into retirement mode and are trying to squeeze every penny they can out of the place and it shows. Let me list the reasons not to stay here:
1. Pinederosa is situated next to interstate 95, all night long all you hear is the deafening noise of tractor trailers, motorcycles and other vehicles on the highway.
2. The facilities are not cleaned on a regular basis. No toilet paper, no hot water, short coin operated showers and plugged up toilets.
3. The owners, evidently trying to save money, don't have the garbage situation under control. The overflowing dumpsters are not emptied on a regular basis which, in turn, attracts all kinds of unwanted rodents. The skunk problem at Pinederosa is almost comical. We stayed up half the night fighting off multiple bold skunk advances. They are so common that they have no fear to humans and were determined to search thru our items for food no matter what we attempted to do to drive them away.
4. The owners do not keep the office open much at all which is very inconvenient if you have any needs.
5. If you do catch the store when it is open, be prepared for price gouging...extremely high prices for camping basics such as batteries, propane, lantern mantles...don't get me started on the tiny, half melted bags of ice.
6. The swimming pool is not well kept and dated.
7. The sites are not maintained, uncut grass, unraked paths, many dangerous widow maker limbs hanging everywhere. Broken picnic tables, ours was infested with bees!
8. The owners made the unwise decision to not pay the fee to be on the trolly route (again, trying to save a buck). This makes getting to and from the beach and downtown a difficult and costly task. Parking at the beach is expensive and fills up quickly. If you decide to try to shuttle people back and forth yourself, be prepared to be harassed by Greg and his girlfriend about the "traffic" in the campgrounds. We were accused of sneaking guests in, when we were merely trying to ferry a large group to the beach with only a couple of cars (to save on beach parking).
9. Speaking of guests, Greg makes it pretty clear that they are not welcome. Don't invite anyone over to visit unless you expect to be harassed and charged. I understand this is a business, but having him pull up and yell at us when we were merely being picked up for dinner is uncalled for. Have a designated guest parking area...don't try to squeeze another nickel out of your patrons every-time a car pulls in.
There are dozens of other campgrounds in the area that are far more accommodating, peaceful, cleaner, cheaper and convenient to downtown and the beaches. Take my advice, skip Pinederosa and stay elsewhere!
