I had the shrimp and grits - thinking Georgia would have incredible grits -- the shrimp were excellent; the grits had a lot to be desired -- good but not what I would have expected and next time would not order them. I went there 2 days in a row. First day I ordered one grilled catfish and an order of macaroni and cheese. I didn't really care for the mac & cheese but the fish was exceptional. It was so well flavored it was a good size for the price and I enjoyed it. The second day I ordered two grilled catfish that was all I've got two little tiny catfish and four hush puppies I didn't get hush puppies the day before and the fish had no seasoning at all it was bland. Let me start off by saying the food here is great but the customer service experience is GOD AWFUL! Every time I order to-go at this restaurant I spend no less than $100 ordering food for my family and every time there's always an issue with food missing. Despite the few hiccups I've continued to come here but my experience yesterday was will definitely be my LAST. I came in to pick up a to-go order and got home to realize the extra crab legs I ordered were not there. I called in and spoke with a young lady and told her my situation which is apparently uninterested in because they were busy. I asked if it would be possible to bring in my receipt as proof that I paid and get my extra food. She put me on hold and told me she was going to get a manager then she came back and rudely said I need to leave a message because they are too busy to handle my issue. Mind you - this is not the first time I've had issues with food missing that I ordered but this is the first time I've called about it and the treatment I received was unacceptable. Normally I will give a restaurant a couple of tries before deciding not to return, but it only took one visit with this restaurant. The service was poor and the food was worse. The crabcakes I ordered were thinner than a pancake and overcooked. All the food was overcooked. The food wasn't just deep fried, it was marinated in grease. And our server was all but invisible once we were finally seated. Sometimes these things can be contributed to just a bad day, all places have them. This is my third visit. Wow! This place has to be the best restaurant in the city. You would never think a landlocked city could have such awesome seafood! It's not only the seafood, French fries are perfect and crispy, hotwings are spicy with great flavor, fried pickles are crunchy a juicy at the same time. This place is great! While I have never eaten in the restaurant (bc toddlers), we have ordered take out several times. The restaurant can be super busy, but my food has always been ready when they say it will be. It's always hot and delicious! Take out customer service isn't always the best, but some nights (like tonight) it's above expectations. Now let me tell you a little secret. They are known for their combos, and don't get me wrong it's delicious & the serving sizes are HUGE! But I just wasn't feeling seafood one night and ordered the Alfredo. Guys! This stuff is amazing! Hands down better than the pasta place (you know the one). I have tried the chicken, shrimp and scallops Alfredo and you can't go wrong with any. It's a huge portion and comes with garlic bread and 2 sides. We never eat the sides with the meal bc it's just way too much food, and well grits with pasta is weird. No disrespect I love this place, but online ordering for lunch baskets for this location and hwy 96 is inconsistent at best plus when you call in the prices change. I order pick up online because On multiple occasions at Highway 96 and Russell I get charged random fees. I tip 20% but these random packaging fees or if I ask for standard condiments is just disheartening at best. If you can't afford to sell it for the price your selling at raise the price. I will gladly pay more if the menus states more. But this arbitrary Sliding fees scale based on how the cashier feels is just stupid and it makes me where I don't wanna order food anymore feels like a shake down. There's been times I've ordered a $10 lunch basket and have almost 3 dollars in fees Tacked on especially at hwy 96 location. I'm not sending this to complain about the food I love the food but charge more and stick to menue prices because some people feel like they're getting robbed by cashiers. And if you went any place like Burger King or McDonald's and they wouldn't give you a receipt for the price was different than what was on the menu you would be upset and wondering if the cashier is pocketing money on the side. I hope that is not the case but as a business owner you should know if somebody is robbing and miss charging customers if this is a miss understanding I am sorry Please make these fees clearer I would happily pay $12 for lunch basket if it's said that on the menu. read more

Food is excellent! Some of the best I've tasted, Florida and every other island included. The garlic butter is addictive. Crab legs did not have a clean break like I prefer, but they were still good. Management tries hard to keep the staff on point. Wait is long and place is too small for the crowd they attract, but that's probably why the quality of food is so good. read more

I have always had great experiences with Shells, despite what others have provided. The location off of Watson is great; all and I mean ALL of the staff is extremely polite but the location off 96 is not respectful of customers. I received an order that was not cooked the way I intended it to be; the vegetables were excellent but the lobster was not cooked the way I intended it to be and I noticed the shrimp was dry as well. Once I saw the lobster was not cooked right I threw it away and had also contacted the restaurant but they insisted the food was cooked properly. I then went to consume the shrimp and they were over cooked and dried out along with cool. They need help but I def will not be going back; especially after almost all of $47.00 thrown into trash. I have also notified friends and family to just be cognizant. It does not mean that others won't have a great experience. read more

My husband and myself were so looking forward to trying this restaurant. We heard how crowded it could be on Friday nights so we went in early around 4 o'clock and had no wait. We ordered an appetizer of oysters on the half shell, Entrées were pick two scallops and fried oysters and a Lowcountry boil. The appetizer was pretty good. My meal came way before my husband's. I was halfway through with my meal before he got his. I bit into a hush puppy and it was obvious that the batter had turned. I informed the waitress and requested a to go box because I had totally lost my appetite. Casual atmosphere, friendly staff, and good prices for what you get. My "choose two" seafood platter with two sides and hush puppies was about $18. Good portion sizes, too - we left full. Firstly, I am a frequent customer of this restaurant. The food is usually very good, but on one particular Sunday my food was terrible. I ordered two combos, spent over $50, and the corn was missing on both plates. Not only that, the food was not seasoned properly. It was not edible, and we barely had any shrimp or sausage which is usually plentiful. As we waited for our food, we had to listen to the employees complain about how busy they were and how the customers were getting on their nerves. They carried on a conversation as if we, along with other paying customers were not standing there. I left messages for the manager twice before I left this review, but I was never contacted. It's been a lot longer than 72 hours. Needless to say, my family won't be going back anytime soon. Save your money! read more

Beware; restaurant is filthy!! I was seated at their bar seating. The table was sticky and unfortunately with view of kitchen. The glass on kitchen door was covered in grease as was the area where the food is set out for the servers. Food was horrible and overpriced. Best broiled scallops I've had in the middle Georgia area.... and I've had them in many places, including Red Lobster. Asked for half the amount of garlic butter on the mashed potatoes and just a touch on the mixed vegetables, and they had absolutely no problem doing that for me. Service can be hit or miss, but they are working on it. And, it is so nice to see an owner listen to constructive criticism and then strive to improve his restaurant. This place is worth trying out. Service is really fast and employees are super friendly. We ordered a low country boil. It was enough for 2 people. The shrimp were very good and cooked perfectly. However, our crab legs were over cooked. The seasoning was just right. We also ordered fried scallop. I wasn't impressed with the scallop. It appeared they used large scallop and diced them up to make it look like there was more. $7 for maybe 3 whole scallop. Kids ordered burgers from the kids menu. Okay so today was my first experience with sea shells food. First, my family and I have tried more than once to eat dinner here but the wait is usually an hour or longer for dinner. So I decided to order takeout. I ordered gumbo, oysters and mussels. I'll start with the gumbo by saying, that was not gumbo. It was a stew at best. It says seafood gumbo I saw one piece of seafood it was mostly potatoes (yes in gumbo) and sausage also there was corn in the gumbo I'm not sure why anyone would put corn and potatoes in gumbo but that's not it chief. As for the mussels they looked and smelled delicious but were so salty I had to rinse them off and sauté them in some beer at my house. The oysters were great. No complaints there. I hate to do reviews like this because I'm not a complainer I rarely send food back but had they brought corn and potato gumbo to my table I would've blacked out. Why???!!! Why?!? If you are looking for great seafood to get your fill you have to try this place! When I informed locals aand showed them the pictures they were like where is that? Four of them told me they would be visiting in the next week. A dozen peel and eat shrimp, as well as the same amount of mussels, six big crawfish, and two nice clusters of snow crab...not to mention the three potatoes quartered, sausage and half ear of corn. While the corn was a little soggy (probably because it continued to cook at the bottom while I ate) but it was good with that butter/garlic mixture on the bottom.
