Wow. The last time I experienced anything close to this was at a fish market in Santa Monica,…read moreCalifornia. If you're an avid fish eater and you appreciate the difference between cargo fish (that reaches the supermarket days or even weeks later) and the freshly caught variety, you have to visit Brighton & Newhaven Fish Sales in Shoreham Harbour (next to Hove Lagoon). This shop is a new addition, in fact just a year old, yet the company has more than 250 years' heritage in the fishing industry here in Brighton. You can even see the boats behind the shop that land fish to the market within hours of capture, ensuring that fish and shellfish are of the highest quality and freshness. Some of the choices on offer include Dover Sole, Plaice, Lemon Sole, Brill, Turbot, Cod, Squid, Cuttle Fish, Bream, Red Mullet, Sea Bass and Crab, Lobster, Mussels, Clams, Oysters and Scallops. The team here are some of the most professional and helpful I've ever encountered to boot, offering advice and cooking instructions if you're a little unclear. If you like fish that melts like butter in your mouth and you don't mind paying a little more for the high quality, supremely fresh produce, I urge you to pay a visit.

Its not as cheap as buying it in a supermarket but its 100 times more fresh and its a great place to go and have a nose around. The staff are really helpful and always try and pick out the biggest specimen for you. I can highly recommend the seabass here - they're huge and taste, well, like they've just come off the boat!

If you want to cook Oriental food, but cook it properly then this should be your port of call,…read moreopposed to Sainsbury's or Tesco. Firstly, you will get way more produce for your money and also was more items that you would ever see on a supermarket shelf. As a chef, this place has allowed me to cook far more dishes than I would have been able to without the stock they sell. From expected noodles and soy sauce to palm sugar, if it's in a recipe they will likely sell it. There is also a nice range of cooking items like woks and crockery all at decent prices. What I also like is having a hunt through the freezer compartments for dumplings, Chinese buns and dim sum. You can even get random Chinese sweets like white rabbit candy (very tasty). The owner is a really sweet lady, who will happily have a little chat and offer the odd cooking tip. You will also find a lot of adverts on the shop front for Oriental cooking lessons, which would be a good way to get more out the shop. A very nice supermarket that offers something a little out of the ordinary.

This is somewhere for real cooks, who want to make Oriental food properly, with authentic ingredients. They have all the basics - sweet chilli, soy, noodles rice - that you can get anywhere, but at much better prices and with a better range than any supermarket. They also stock lots of things that you won't find everywhere - unusual herbs and spices, and an array of tins and packages with unfamiliar and exciting looking names. Well, those bits I can read, anyway.

And in our…read morecase this was the second choice as the first restaurant we wanted was fully booked, but honestly, I don't mind and I am glad the first place was book as this restaurant was excellent. The layout is a bit dated but don't let that fool you, with a view of the beach across the street this is a lovely place to have dinner. My girlfriend and I both had grilled fish options. I went with the Salmon and she had the Sea Bass. Both were delicious, although hers was looking up at her with sad dead eyes. We also had some shrimp as an appetizer that was excellent. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that we went in August of 2020 (the era of COVID) and the waitress and others working at the restaurant were not properly wearing masks. The waitress had one on, that she would pull down when talking to us so as to be heard better. Making the mask pointless

We had a little bottle of fizz each, while we were waiting, 200cl like you used to get on airplanes...drinkable, fun experience..£5 each....seriously there is nothing not to like! And nearly everyone in there was a regular or returned every year when on holiday...everyone seemed to know everyone..and you will understand why they comeback...we will Great (unusual) place, run I think by Greek Cypriots...a lot of Greek stuff on the menu too Check it out!
