This occurred while the business was called "SD Motorwerks" run by Rick Hagen. Now it's just "Motorwerks", but it's still run by Rick Hagen, so this review still applies. BUYER BEWARE! I live across the country and found a car online. After looking at the standard photos I asked Brett Burgess to send pictures of all the dings and flaws so I could see before I decided to fly to California. I got one photo of a paint imperfection ( after flying out myself to see the car there were multiple dings and imperfections which were no problem... the point is I asked for all photos of dings and imperfections and I only received the one photo.) After paying for the car to be inspected by a third party company, I told the salesman Brett Burgess I would make a down payment to hold the car until I could fly out there since the inspection went great. Brett suggested a down payment. "usually around $5000 to 10,000 is what most pay." I said I would put $5000 down and I will be there in two weeks. He said he needed to talk to his manager but never got back to me so I called back after waiting an hour. He said Rick told him they couldn't take just $5000 down (the price he suggested) and he wanted me to purchase the car in full over the phone and said "the car is getting too many hits to have a $5000 down payment and wait two weeks for me to purchase it." That was not going to happen without me even seeing the car, but I did put down $8000 instead. This was the first shady thing they did and an example of the level of low these guys will go. I flew to San Diego, California and purchased the car on October 22, 2022. After giving the title time to transfer to my home state, I went to register the car and found out neither the State tax collector nor the bank received the title. I emailed Brett Burgess with a request to send the title to the tax collector which he was suppose to have already done.. There was no reply. Later, I had my bank call the dealer. They spoke to Rick on 11/22/2022 and he told them he will have the title that Friday or the next Friday and will overnight it to the bank. I called him right afterwards not knowing the bank got in touch with him first and he told me the same thing.. Multiple Fridays went by with no title. The bank and I repeated our request for the title with no response. Almost two months after I bought the car, I called SD Motorwerks. Someone name John answers and I tell him my problem. He says "there was a problem with some details on the title and my bank was aware" (which was not true since my bank was told nothing of the sort). I told John I need proof that they are working on sending the title. He said "We should have it this Friday" and emailed me an incomplete replacement title application that was filled out on 11/22/2022 (the day my bank called Rick). I requested proof that the replacement title sheet was sent to the DMV and paid for and.... no response. I call back that Friday 12/9/2022 to speak to Rick. He told me he was busy with another customer and didn't know if the title had come in and would "have somebody call me tomorrow since he was not in the office today". Again no one called me back. I called the California DMV and ask if they have received the replacement title that I was emailed. The DMV said that there has been no paperwork sent in for that car's title or my proof of ownership. They told me I can call the investigation department to deal with this. I submitted a formal complaint with the California DMV at that point. Now 6 months later, my bank has sent a formal title request and the DMV investigation has gone nowhere... Still no title. I have been given nothing but lies about the title and not one phone call from anyone from SD Motorwerks with any updates. The investigator has told me that this car's title is probably still held by a loan company that Rick used to purchase the car. He and Brett Burgess sold me a car with a title likely held by a finance company because the loan has not been paid back. This company has multiple terrible reviews throughout the different iterations. Their Better Business Bureau score online is an F. The DMV investigator told me he had five cases against Rick and SD motorwerks when I was trying to get my problem straightened out. Be wary of any positive reviews as they are too good to be true but pay careful attention to the negative reviews. I have records and evidence that I have had a similar experience. Nothing good will come from purchasing from this "dealer" or anything with Rick Hagen or Brett Burgess involved. Buyer Beware! read more

Rick and his son are by far the best to work with. This was my first car I purchased and they really made my whole experience. They made me feel comfortable with the amount I wanted to spend and worked with me on the financing. Since this was my first car purchase, I had millions of questions and they always replied back to my texts and picked up every one of my calls. Even when I was purchasing a vehicle that was not top in their inventory (they have a lot of nice cars), they made me feel like I was their most important customer. That's priceless. They worked late with me past their business hours to make sure everything was to my liking and I never felt pressured to leave or make any hasty decisions. Just finalized my purchase with this dealership and I had a great experience with them. I flew out from Texas to buy my dream car: Audi RS5. The day I landed to pick up the car, I received a call regarding an issue with the mechatronics, which is common issue in these cars. Due to this, I wasn't able pick up the car as anticipated. 5 months after my original review nothing has changed. I'm making payments on a car when I can but have missed a few and my credit is destroyed. I have had a few customers of SD Motorwerks contact me via Facebook telling me the same thing happened to and asking me what they could do. I spoke with a few attorneys, and it was not worth it to them to take on the case. A couple of attorneys told me to take Rick to small claims court. Also, contact Consumer Motor Vehicle Recovery Corporation(CMVRC) They are very familiar with SD Motorwerks. This company is set up to fight fraudulent auto dealerships like SD Motorwerks. Based on what I showed them, they took mt case. Kind of a no brainer. They will cut you a check for up to $50,000 and they will go after Rick and SD Motorwerks for you. Be patient with CMVRC, they're a little slow but they will eventually get to your case and help you out. As far as small claims court, it is very important that you serve Rick with the summons for court. I have never sued anyone, so I did not know that I had to do this. My court date is a few months away. Rick has chosen to ignore this problem and hope that I go away, not going to happen!! Also, If you bought the 2008, yellow, ZO6 corvette from SD Motorwerks, enjoy it while you have it. I don't know if the buyer realizes that he does not have the title, my bank has it. Also, you might want to check SD Motorwerks license before you do business with them!! read more

While working in California, My husband Vincent Gaskin purchased a 2018 Porsche from this dealership December 12, 2021 for my birthday. I saw the car, liked the car, and left with the car the same day. Let's fast forward to the present day. We are on our 2nd 90 day temporary tag. Every time we call to inquire about our title we have been told lies from Brett, Rick, and Sam. Each one has told a different LIE as to when we would have our title. One lie was that it was returned because it was sent to the wrong address (We live in Florida). But when the address was verified would you believe that it was the correct address? They have even went as far as giving us a FedEx tracking number. A tracking number for a package that never left San Diego. My husband spoke with Sam last week who gave us his word (LOL) that he guaranteed we would receive it by Monday. Well today is Wednesday and guess what? The FedEx tracking number says it is still in San Diego. I would love to know how this dealership can get away with selling cars with no title in hand. Sounds like a question that I will be asking to the Attorney General's office. I also will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. These are horrible business practices!!! If I could give this company a NEGATIVE I would. Do not purchase a vehicle from this place. Avoid this dealership !!! I am just mad because San Diego Porsche dealership is a block away and we should have just purchased a car from them. Then we wouldnt have the problem that we have now. Run, Run,Run!!!! read more

I waited to post this so I could think of the effects of my words here. The following is my experience with SD motor works. I was interested in a 2015 BMW 640i white with red interior. I called and spoke with Brett  and was clear about what I was looking for. He said he would send pictures in 20 minutes. 3 hours later I called and he sent 2 pictures. I asked for more and heard nothing until I called a week later. He assured me the car was what I was looking for however they needed to respray the front bumper but the car would be ready for me to see. Here's what I saw when I arrived. A yellow discolored front passenger fender. and poorly painted front bumper. I had a  4  hour comute to see this car and spent the previous day on the phone arranging my financing and adding the car to my insurance. Brett said he would reduce the price $500 fix the fender and send it to me if I would purchase. "I left frustrated" Even though I wanted the car and tried to purchase at a later date keeping in mind the cost to bring to standard, it did not work out. Brett actually raised the price back up and did nothing to make good on my wasted time. Brett was polite and the showroom is nice, however without honesty it never felt right and turned out to be a frustrating and very un-proffesional experience for me. read more

Stay far away from this shop. Paid 10K over blue book for a older luxury suv that was "gone through". Its been over a year and the problems have not been fixed. Instead of owning up to their mistakes and fixing them, they have taken to bullying. At one point was told brakes are supposed to squeak and the guy who sold me the car was not the owners responsibility. Also told me I should have been a better negotiator.
