I've got a different smog place that I've used for years and they've always been quick to finish and their prices are fair. They're closed on the weekends though and I really needed to get this done. I searched on Google Maps and found SCV Smog was open. I've gone to The Dent Man in that same building and it's not my favorite business park because it's so tight and I drive a dually pickup. But just like with The Dent Man, it's was worth wiggling a little to fit in there. The gentleman working there on Sunday was about my same age (late 50s) and gave me a rough estimate on the wait time. Fair enough. One of the other customers waiting bailed, so I got in within about 15 minutes, which seemed pretty amazing. The gentleman also teased me about the way I was overdressed for the weather, which I appreciated. It's been freezing for weeks and yesterday was finally nice. He was right. No need for the fake-UGGS. The whole process took me about 45 minutes door-to-door and my wife was surprised to see me back so soon, as if she'd just sent her lover out the back window when she heard my truck pull up. So that's another plus. I might have a new favorite smog place. I hate paying for smog checks, but this was quick & friendly service and the price was very fair (not cheap, but definitely not a gouge either). Wow. Went here this morning for a smog on a 1999 S10. When it was my turn to be helped, the mechanic told me "I'm not sure if my machine will do a 90s vehicle". Hmmm. He went to the machine then came back and asked me to come back 3 hours later so his machine could get ready and so he could help all the 90s vehicles he had booked ahead of me???? He just said he didn't know if he could then proceeds to say he has a bunch of 90s vehicles booked. Which is it?? He then proceeded to tell me little literally 3 times how I'm lucky they will do it since most shops won't touch vehicles that old. Okay..... Just left from my visit hours later as he asked. When I arrived, he again immediately informed me that I should be glad they will look at a 90s vehicle. At this point he now tells me they don't honor their "retest " policy in 90s vehicles. Oddly specific. Since I already drove there again, I decided to get the service done. I also stated the truck had sat for 10 years and I'd be surprised if it did pass, but agreed. He said the service would take about 30 minutes so I decided to wait. An hour later he finished up. I tried to joke about the 90s vehicle, but he was not receiving. He stated it failed o visual inspection due to the headers( strange since they are Ca legal) and the throttle body spacer. I get it on spacer, but the headers are legal. I asked why he wouldn't have performed the visual test first and just let me know it failed immediately . Instead he made sure to get his money by performing the entire test. Instead of giving polite reasons, he got snappy and then so did I. As I left he called me broke and said nobody likes to work on piece of shit cars like mine and said I was mad because it didn't pass. That's weird since when I first got there I literally said I doubt it would pass, so why would that piss me off. No you lying to me pissed me off. I guess my car got old enough to the point where I required a smog check at a STAR location. While I typically hit up ktown for my smog needs, I wasn't in the mood to battle the traffic and la driving and I had no immediate errands in la so I ended up deciding to look in the SCV on a whim. To my nonamusement, there were not too many options for STAR locations in the area. I found this one through Yelp and decided I would see how long the wait was. If it was anything more than 20 minutes, I had planned to just go to la after all on another day. It ended up being so quick thanks to Alejandro. I was in and out in 10 minutes. Make sure to check out this small, attentive shop the next time DMV gives you the fickled finger of fate! Compared to ktown, the prices are a bit high but with the yelp discount and convenience of waiting only 10 minutes, I didn't mind too much. SGV Smog now has a new loyal customer. read more

Pulled in with no cars on the bay. Tech was sitting behind the desk on his phone. I asked if he was available for a smog. Asked what year my car was (90s) and he says "no one really smogs older cars anymore." Further stated California wants old cars off the road. I said that's great but it's still legal and can be smogged, and it's my daily driver. I've had the car for 15 years and have never had an issue smogging it. Looks under the hood and makes up an excuse about how CARB numbers need to be called in and matched to the vehicle (which they don't) since it has slight California approved modifications. Then says that it's missing vital stickers under the hood since he believes the hood has been replaced (which it hasn't). So it can't be smogged without these stickers. As stated before, 15 years never had an issue with CARB numbers or stickers. I recently moved to Valencia so was looking for a new shop. Sorry to interrupt your phone screening time and sorry it is older and it doesn't plug right into the computer. Literally said "I won't do it, you can try my competition." So I took his advice, which was the only sane thing he said that day, and went to VALENCIA AUTO PERFORMANCE & SMOG down the street. They asked if I could come back first thing in the morning since they were a little backed up. So I did, they put it on the dyno, fired it up, and oddly enough they made no excuses about CARB numbers or stickers preventing them from doing it Car passed without any issues. read more

They don't take appointments, so get here right when they open for the best chance at the shortest wait time, advice from the staff I spoke with. Scv smog was a very good price and had friendly service. I showed up on a Friday around 4:20 and was able to get my car serviced within five minutes. One suggestion is to get a service request quote before you go to get service. I told him I found him on Yelp. He said oh great that's wonderful to hear. He printed the bill and it stated the cost would be $76. I told him I thought it was $56. I said I received a service quote stating so. He said oh you told me you found us on Yelp. I said yes I did find you on Yelp and requested a service quote from Yelp. He said no problem. I can reprint this and the cost will be $56. He said the computer just automatically prints the amount for $76 unless a customer tells them that they received a service quote. I thought I was telling him I received a service quote by going ontoYelp. Apparently you have to be very clear and state that you found them on Yelp and asked for a service quote. He was very friendly about that. No problems. I just want to pass that information onto anyone who does use SMG Smog to make sure that they asked for a service quote from Yelp before they go to get service. read more

I was disappointed with this shop. I went yesterday to get my 1999 Toyota a smog test. The gentleman that was there, asked me what year my car was in between another customer. When I told him the year he told me I would need to come back the next day because he needed the other machine to do my smog test. I said OK. I got up this morning, drove over to the shop again. When it was my turn, I pulled my vehicle up. He opened my hood and started looking around and mentioned it was not original hood. I said no, it had to be replaced after my last accident, about 6 years ago. He proceeded looking at the engine and said he could not perform the test because my hood was missing the required specs sticker that is on the original hood. He told me to call TOYOTA and ask for a new specs sticker. I was shocked because my car has been smogged a couple of times since this hood has been on. Not sure why he did not want to smog my car but I am quite disappointed. read more

Well, nothing too sexy to say here... I mean... it's a smog test. But, since it's something you have to do... I'd say this is a great place to do it. They were quick, courteous, and are equipped to service those like me who have RVs. I took my Jeep in, it didn't pass, but they were kind enough to explain the issue was likely due to replacing the battery and the computer system had reset. They sent me out to put a few more miles on the vehicle and come back. I did as they instructed. After a couple turns up the 5, I returned and all was set. Thanks for keeping it real and not sending me out the door scratching my head - only to end up with a $300 bill over at Chrysler so they can drive it up and down the 5.
