We spoke to several landscapers about options for hardscaping our backyard. The winner was clear in the end. SCV Landscaping first impressed us by offering something that nobody else did - a designer, free of charge! That's right, Greg worked with us to talk through options on how best to design the backyard and then created free 3D renderings! This was EXTREMELY helpful because it truly allowed us to visualize what our yard would look like with our house - it even caused us to make some design changes to our original plans since we could visualize them so well. Greg would always update the designs quickly (overnight) so that we can see how our design changes would look. Greg and team provided us sample pavers for the colors we were choosing between so that we would be comfortable with our decision. Once we agreed on a design, the team got to work almost immediately. They use a project management system (Basecamp) to ensure constant communication between the owner, designer, project manager, foreman, and the owner! This allowed me to ask questions and receive answers in real time. Once work began, I was amazed at how fast the team works. I *never* saw members of the crew sitting back and relaxing during the work time - this team works HARD and I could tell they really connect well as a team. This is important as you know that people that are happy with working together truly care about the quality of the work they are doing - and it showed! Throughout the entire process, the foreman would always walk me through what they were doing. In fact, in two cases, I noticed the work being done didn't exactly align with the plan - he explained to me that he had leftover pieces and knew that using them would enhance the overall look of the finished product - and boy was he right! I appreciated the attention to detail that the entire team provided. Also, I want to point out the unseen quality in the work. The team cuts no corners. They use top-of-the-line reinforcement under the pavers, used top-of-the-line paving "sand" to fill the cracks between the pavers, flood drains EVERYWHERE, custom cuts on all corners for the pavers, custom cuts around all pipes/drains, and they even used concrete around the planter box wall to ensure the hardscaping will not move over time. These are details that ensure the work will last for decades to come. We could not be happier with the entire process and the end result. It looks amazing and the quality is sturdy. After the job was done, we realized one little section of pavers wasn't draining the way intended - at 7am the very next morning, the crew was back to enhance the drainage of that area and it is perfect! They also provided us instructions on how to best care for the plants/grass - and now one month later they have continued to grow very healthy and beautiful! The entire team, Nick/Greg/Eric/Foreman/crew did great! I recommend them to everybody looking to truly increase the value of their home through hardscaping. To help provide context, the work performed for us included pavers, grass, plants, planter box areas with mulch, custom stepping stones with pebbles, irrigation system (grass and plants), a firepit (they run the gas line all the way from the meter to ensure full power!), electrical connections, high pressure water hose connection, a stucco wall around the A/C unit, and extremely well done water drains in the pavers, grass, and even inside the firepit. After researching countless contractors and going back and forth with who I was going to going to hire for the backyard, I am so happy that i chose SCV landscaping for the job. When i moved into my house i knew i wanted a Pool, Built in BBQ and patio cover, but was had no idea how i would lay it out in my back yard. Nick and Greg came over for an initial meeting and i could tell immediately that they were different from the rest. My experience has not been good at all. We met with Nick and Greg, after basically begging them via several voicemails over several months to come to meet with me and my wife. That should have been the first warning sign. In October 2020 they finally met with us and indicated that they would get back to us within a couple of weeks with estimates / drawings. I had to call nonstop and write emails constantly to get the estimate. It took several weeks but we finally aligned on the key elements of the plan and we gave them a $1,000 deposit. Nick set expectations with me that the timeframe to get going was in the Spring of 2020 for them to get started. However, they went silent after the check was given to them. So I kept chasing Nick and Greg via numerous emails and was told by that there were delays with permits, they had backlogs of projects, that the rain caused delay, etc. Nick told me on February 11th that they "plan to review the schedule with the team early next week to dial in a more specific start date". I never heard back so on March 13th, I followed up once more via email but could never get a response. Only when I called Nick on March 19, 2021 and left a voicemail that we were canceling the project and demanding our money back did I finally get a response. I was told they had numerous backlogs but they would get back to us with an estimate of when they could start our project. He also indicated that permits were taking longer than planned due to COVID. He promised better communication going forward in an email to me on March 21st. We exchanged emails on April 5th and 6th with information Greg and Nick asked for - then they went silent again. We finally called Nick in late April 2020 and said we were thinking of moving so we asked him to take us off the list for the moment. However, on May 16th, we sent email back saying to put us back on the list as we weren't moving after all. So, yes, we caused a bit of delay in this deal. We own that. I left a voicemail on Nick's phone on May 16th that we wanted to get back in line as we decided against selling during COVID. We also reached out to Greg via his cell phone. Greg was actually very responsive during the months of late May, June, and July providing us with some drawings, conceptual designs, and requested that we get out HOA to approve the design.We got the approval and emailed it to Greg on August 27th. Then he went silent once we provided the HOA approval as SCV Landscaping had asked. I followed up via email on September 9, 16, 18, and 30. Greg finally texted me back and let me know the the next steps were "to get a date lined up". But I never heard back. I then tried contacting Nick again via email and text. On October 2nd he replied October that the LA County permits were delayed. He told me once again "I will confirm with team tomorrow at our meeting" as to when they could start. I followed back up via text on October 9, 14, 18, 22. I finally got a reply text on October 22nd that Nick "was taking the team to dinner tonight and will discuss to gauge where it should truly start at this point." I didn't hear back so on October 29th I reached out again via text and told him that I would follow back up in early December in the hopes that they could get started in January 2022. I reached out via text on December 4, no reply. I reached out again today (December 11th). No reply (until I posted this review...) A year after the first meeting, we don't have a patio/ fireplace / bar. We also don't have $1,000 in our bank account any more either. We also haven't had any "better communications'. I basically have nothing to show for this at all. I wish I had never heard of these guys. Let my experience be a warning to anyone trying to deal with SCV Landscaping. read more

We found SCV from a neighbor referral and also saw their advertisement placards all over the neighborhood. We spoke to Nick and Greg and they came over to do an onsite consultation of the backyard, Greg go us the first render of our idea some time later. He was really good about edits and tweaks to maximize our backyard space and we settled on a design and were put in the queue.. Now we did have to wait a while to get started, but we knew that and Nick or Greg was good about keeping us updated on start date and ended up starting a bit early. Where SCV was way about the rest of our bids was actual construction time, they FLY through it, when they say 8-10 weeks, it's really 8-10 weeks, we had friends that used someone else and it took 4 months to get their pool done. The onsite formen, Eric and Brian are on top of things, quick to answer questions or concerns, we were never in the dark. The crews who did work were always nice and mindful about our kids and dogs, the site was never a mess. Any issues that came up were resolved quickly and fixed. We met with several landscaping companies when we were ready to have our backyard redone. SCV Landscaping was the clear choice for us. Greg came out and met with us and he was a wealth of knowledge. We loved all of his ideas and experience, and especially loved that they take care of everything! They had a plan drawn up to submit to our HOA, which was very helpful. Upon deposit, we were given an estimated 3 month wait for the project start, but it ended up being about 8 months. This, however, was not an issue for us and we were able to communicate with someone easily when we requested an update. Once the project started, the work was done very efficiently and communication was fluid. Brian was our project manager and he was great. Lalo was the foreman and he was extraordinary! They were done in 2 weeks and everything seemed to happen seamless and the crew was polite and neat. We had a paver wall installed, a raised paver circle for a seated area (and portable fire pit), all new irrigation, sod and drip lines, as well as landscape lighting. A few days after everything was done we had an issue with raccoons lifting our sod and Brian came out to take a look and talk with us about solutions. When we purchased our home, we didn't anticipate the challenges that our small lot would bring with its super dense clay dirt and the amount of water it retained. We met with four different landscaping companies and selected SCV Landscaping because of their great customer service, detailed explanation of their proposal, and their attentiveness to our needs. After we selected SCV Landscaping, it was smooth sailing from start to finish. The team providing landscaping plans to the detail required by LA County Fire as well as our HOA. Because of their attention to detail, both were approved quickly without any issues. We had them include pet-friendly turf, drainage, a short retaining wall, and an extension of a sidewalk/driveway in their plans. Upon starting the work, they provided a two-week game plan and was able to complete each step on time. Shortly after the project was completed, Mother Nature decided to give their landscape design a test run -- we've had A LOT of rain since then, and the drainage that they installed works perfectly. I hired SCV landscaping for a HUGE project to do my entire front and back yard. This included a paver driveway, pool, fire pit, built in barbecue and covered patio. I can't say this project went 100% smoothly, but if you know construction, nothing goes 100% smoothly with a project of this magnitude. here were no problems with SCV landscaping at all. The only issues we had were some minor issues with a couple subcontractors. SCV handled everything from the design all the way through the completion of the project. The guys they have installing the pavers are true craftsmen and the person supervising the project is an "old school" do it slow and do it right kind of guy. Very refreshing in today's "slap it together quick" world. All of SCV's crew takes pride in their work and it shows. SCV's owners were on site every day and were easy to reach and to do business with. I don't believe in loans, so I had been saving my money for the past 15 years to build my dream home. SCV Landscaping finished our backyard project last week and we could not be happier! The overall work scope was adding a covered patio with electrical and heater/fan/outlets, pergola, BBQ counter with gas grill, stone pavers/edging, landscape lighting & a cocktail pool. First off Nick & Greg were amazing to work with. The process started with an onsite visit. We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted, but they aligned our original vision with a practical plan, suggesting things that made more sense from both a design perspective and a practicality standpoint. The only downside was how long we had to wait to start, but we understood this from the very beginning as they communicated the wait up front. Also every other company we got a bid from was booked out months in advance given the demand in our area. Regarding cost, you can definitely find cheaper options out there but we would not recommend it based on past experience. SCV uses an app called BaseCamp where all questions can be posted so everyone at their company (and your household) has visibility. This was a huge benefit and alleviated critical conversations about design & budget happening across multiple text chains, phone calls and in person conversations. Eric and Brian were our day to day project managers- both were awesome. They would generally show up and get their work done quickly and efficiently, but would also stop to check in, make sure they were asking for approval before things we're placed (positions of lights, stain and paint colors, stucco finish, etc.) All these little details make a huge difference at the end, and we felt in the loop rather than just getting what they thought was best. We bought a new house without any landscaping on the side or backyard. We interviewed several companies since we decided that we wanted to build a pool and spa as well as other things to go along with it like grass, lighting, and some pergolas. Most companies were flaky, too expensive, or rubbed us the wrong way. Once we interviewed Nick and Greg, we knew we had met the right folks. Since our backyard was an odd shape, it was difficult to draw up a pool that would fit and we would be happy with. Well, lo and behold, after other companies failed, Greg drew up a masterpiece that was haralded by my wife and me. It fit perfectly and we had it in a 3D format complete with renderings of me and my wife poolside. Sure, they're more price-friendly companies out there but you really do get what you pay for. I wouldn't say they are the most expensive either. What really sets them apart-aside from their workmanship- is that they show up with a small army and get the job done. There was never a day where we wondered when and if they were going to show up. There is nothing worse than having to chase down a contractor. If you've ever had to do that, then you know what I am talking about. They were a proverbial breath of fresh air in a world of smoggy pool builders. The one thing that I like about SCV is that they stand behind their work. I trust Nick, et. al., to get the job done and if there is a problem, they will fix it in a timely fashion. We had an older design pool and hardscaped yard that did not match the style/color of our house which was falling apart as well. Rob and Nick came and discussed their vision for modernizing our pool to match the modern style of our house. We had to go all the way down to gunite on our pool and replace everything including plaster, coping, and tile. Our job also included replacing all the vertical stone on our garden walls, pilasters, bbq island, and outdoor fireplace including wall caps, as well as adding lighting and artificial turf behind our pool. Our one caveat was that we did not have the budget to replace our existing stamped concrete, so they had to come up with a color scheme to match the concrete while incorporating the newer color scheme. We had a very strict timeline to complete our project to accommodate a graduation party we were hosting. The demo work was much more than anticipated as the height of our old coping stone was less than that of the new coping choice, so they hand chipped the entire pool coping down to the correct level to match that of the existing concrete deck. The attention to detail was great as they identified wavey lines from the prior concrete work, deciding on their own to cut a new line on the entire length of the pool to square and clean up the new mastic line. The stone work done was very tedious and well done across all of our walls, and our new bbq looks amazing. They used the existing footprint but gave us a cantilever bartop with a poured concrete surface, keeping the same equipment and doors for our bbq. Finally, the artificial turf in the small area above our pool was the final touch to add color to our yard. SCV did a great job on our yard and completed it the day before we hosted our party. Their entire crew came the last day to pressure wash and clean up our entire yard for us so we would have minimal work to set up for our party. Now that we have been enjoying our yard for the last 2 months, we have had numerous parties, and all our friends are stunned by the transformation that SCV created in our yard. I would highly recommend them for any work as their attention to detail was great. Best part was that we came in almost exactly on budget, even though the demo work was more than anticipated. From start to finish, my wife and I were very impressed with the professionalism and quality we received from everyone at SCV Landscaping. We're no experts when it comes to backyard redesigns, and Greg was extremely helpful giving us ideas and showing us how we can accomplish our list within our budget. We never felt like we were being sold something we didn't need, while at the same time they offered up some thoughtful ideas for us to consider. One of the best parts of the process was the upfront 3D design work. It made it a lot easier to envision what the finish product was going to look like, and helped my wife and I be more comfortable with the process knowing what we were getting in the end. The crew that did the work was fantastic too. Cleaning up each day before they left, and even offering to let our kids put their feet prints in the new cement which we're so glad we did. I have to admit that SCV may not be the cheapest option among landscaping contractors out there. However, if you want your project to be done right with meticulous details, there's probably none better than SCV. I was extremely impressed with their entire team - Greg in charge of designing phase, Pedro is a dedicated foreman, and Greg is a competent project manager whose focus is unwavering in getting the job done right. Do I sound as if I'm doing a paid endorsement? Absolutely not! It's hard for me to endorse someone or company but this was an exception. I have seen examples of half done projects on my friends and neighbor's yards - that were of less quality and lack of attention to details. Totally unprofessional, don't bother with these guys unless you're building a new in ground pool or doing some serious landscaping. I spoke with the owner "Nick" on June 9th at about 230pm. He listened to what I was interested in obtaining a quote on (pool light issue entailing breaking concrete and running a new wire to pool equipment area, as well as up lights for about 7 palm trees). He asked me to call him the following week as he was busy on a project. I called the following week and approximately 6 times over a two week period, with no return phone call after leaving a message each time. Better to be up front with me so we're not wasting each other's valuable time. I don't appreciate being treated like a clown. read more
