Curtis and his team did such an awesome job with our RV pad expansion. They took the time to ensure no detail was missed. Both the hardscape and the landscape portions of our project came out absolutely beautifully. We could not be more pleased and highly recommend them! read more

Every so often, we need our faith restored. That's the perfect time to call Smith Landscape. There is simply no other landscaping company that comes close. In fact, they might just be our favorite company, period. Why? No sooner did I call them to give us an idea about a particular area of our yard that we wanted to address, than they made an appointment immediately, came out right on time, and were so darn nice while being obviously knowledgeable that I almost thought I was dreaming. Curtis is a joy to interact with. Smart, friendly, immediately grasping the issues involved and able to come up with an elegant strategy to deal with them, ones we hadn't imagined ourselves. Each time we have scheduled work, they show up on the dot, their staff are dressed professionally in company colors, friendly and efficient as well. Bryan, who started this company forty years ago, also came out and spent a very hot day making sure everything was just right. He and Curtis are experts, in demand, but so neighborly that you forget they are contractors. And, they are beyond fair in their pricing. You always get more than you expect, beyond what you are paying for with Smith. They left us smiling and thrilled with their work each time, and feeling like we are all old friends. Their schedule fills up fast, so make sure you give them plenty of notice. Once you work with them, you won't be happy with anyone else. read more

Curtis is a solid contractor. I hired him initially on a project that was small to test the waters and he knocked it out of the park. Since then we've used his services on multiple projects (including my own home - see photo) and he always comes through. He is reliable and trustworthy which is something quite rare these days. Hire him since you won't be disappointed. read more

**Outstanding service!** Curtis and his team transformed our front yard. We added paver steps to our new walkway, landscape lights, and beautiful plants on a drip system. Last Fall we decided to take advantage of SCV Water's lawn replacement program (Thanks so much for Chavon's help--we would have struggled without her guidance through the process). It was a long process as we were planning on basically re-landscaping almost our entire back yard after having lived here for 20+ years. We interviewed 5 contractors...and knew right away that Curtis of Smith Landscaping was our 'guy.' Two of the others were 'sales' people. Curtis is the owner of Smith Landscaping and wrote up a concise line by line proposal with prices for each item we wished to have changed/installed. We went with a south-western 'look,' with drought tolerant plants, pavers and decomposed granite. We had drip irrigation installed for every plant in our back yard including almost 50 new plants. We had almost 50 2'x2' pavers set in concrete as well as about 200 linear feet of bed brick edging installed. Curtis was on top of everything--always available and flexible when changes and additional work were requested. Also he has a good attitude, a good sense of humor and is very friendly. But probably the most important aspect of the job was Smith Landscaping's work crew. An amazing group of workers! They showed up every day at 6:45 in the morning and worked very well together. And they worked hard! They removed existing sod and about 3 inches of dirt to accommodate the pavers and decomposed granite. It was windy and cold and rainy, but they got the work done to our satisfaction. Special thanks to Serafin the lead crew member who accommodated our micro managing. We were 100% happy with the final outcome. Two other things to consider: We requested that "ramboard" be placed on top of our current decking to prevent damage and/or staining and it work very well. Also consider that these crews work hard and deserve to be tipped if you're happy with their work. read more

We have used Smith Landscaping ever since we moved into our house in 1996. Brian did the original landscaping. Since his son Curtis took over the business, we have done a couple of refresh projects over the years. Last year, we decided to do an entire makeover of our front yard, which just completed. It turned out fantastic! The masonry work is outstanding! Curtis is very creative in his use of plants, so the garden is alive with color while still being drought tolerant. He worked with us on multiple iterations to come up with the design we wanted. The workers are very professional. Definitely "worth what paid for and highly recommended! read more

The quality of their work is above par, and the support is extraordinary. They go above and beyond to make sure I am consistently thrilled with my yard. They installed a drip watering system and planted all of the drought tolerant plants, which are thriving. read more

Turned this weed grown area in a simple rock landscape. Looks gorgeous. Curtis also brought in these boulders that give it a nice finishing touch. Super happy. Work was complete as expected. Super happy with the quality of products they used and very easy to work with. Curtis had an eye for my visón. I really only had half of it. But the rocks look amazing with grass and mulch and now heavy rain will run right to our sump pump. I would recommend for all my landscape needs. read more

The nicest construction contractor you will ever meet! Despite how well you might plan a project, a relationship with a contractor on a home construction project always seems to have adversarial overtones, in my experience. So our barbecue island project with Smith Landscape was the most pleasant exception to this apparent rule. Every step of the way, Curtis Smith had a positive, can-do attitude. Whenever a minor issue or unexpected hitch came up, Curtis responded with a smile and a "no problem," and everything was quickly back on track. He checked in at the job site at every step of the project. A key to the project's success was a foreman or lead worker who is very proficient and hard-working. Another confidence-building aspect is that Curtis responded to texts instantly, and was always there to answer a phone call. He is amazingly responsive. He is also very open to customer suggestions. Rather than approaching a new project with dread, we would now look forward to engaging Smith-- expecting both a pleasant experience and a beautiful finished product. read more

We have completed a spectacular backyard project with Curtis and his phenomenal crew. A+++++ We have never worked with such a talented, patient, professional, and exceptional landscape contractor. He is the perfect balance of intelligent, knowledgable and fun...flexible, kind and honest and respectful. We had the best experience with Curtis and his crew. They re-landscaped our front yard, including new brick planters and porch, sod, plants, trees, and lighting. Curtis is very creative and his suggestions and guidance were terrific. The crew are friendly and highly skilled. They pay great attention to detail and have no problem switching gears if asked to make changes. They cleaned up and organized the supplies at the end of each work day. The price was very reasonable and our yard looks fantastic. Hoping to have them back to do our backyard next year. read more

On a scale of 1 to 10, Smith Landscape & Maintenance is a 10+ ! Our church had planned for many years to remodel an area of our campus into a Fellowship Plaza and had finally raised enough funds to move forward on this vision. We did what most people do, contacted and obtained 3-4 bids from various companies. In that process, Curtis Smith was a pleasure to work with. He was always very responsive and gave us some great suggestions for modifying our original plans to allow for some significant cost savings. This was a relatively large project and they did the work in the timeframe that they had originally estimated - about 4 weeks. Curtis, his foreman, and the entire crew were a joy to work with. They were attentive to every detail, did not hesitate to make small changes as requested, and were extremely conscientious about keeping our campus safe and clean, even while the work was underway. (This was important to us because we operate a preschool on our campus as well.) Thank you to Curtis and team for blessing our church with your ability to turn a mess into a thing of beauty! We can't wait to reopen our church soon and enjoy this new fellowship area! read more

Smith Landscaping is awesome! After leaving an email for a quote, Curtis called me back within the hour and we set up a day and time for him to come and see our yard. He was very friendly and seemed to be honest. After getting quotes of $8k or more for the same job (not to mention that another company told me that the job was ''too little '' for them to take!), Curtis sent us an email the following day with a quote that my wife and I felt more comfortable with. So the next question was, will the job be professionally done? They came in on a Saturday at 7am sharp (with a crew of 7!), and were done by 2pm! And the work was more than we expected! My wife, the boss, was very happy. That night we just chilled outside in the new backyard and enjoyed the view. Also, since they also do irrigation, I asked Curtis if they could repair a hose that had popped a hole, and he said no problem and no extra charge because it was a quick fix. We will definitely be giving them a call back, and we would definitely recommend them! read more

Curtis and his crew, Carlos, Alfonso and Hymie transform my front yard in four days. I reduce the size of my front lawn and we put in water efficient sprinklers. Instead of seasonal flowers which I have been planting for years, I put in plants that will flower and add color. The work was done professionally, efficiently and considerately. They were wonderful to work with, very accommodating and helpful. I would recommend Curtis and his crew at Smith Landscaping and Maintenance to anyone! Susan Eppolito read more

My wife and I bought a new construction home and had to landscape our (tiny) backyard from scratch. We got several price quotes from a variety of companies, including most of the top name companies in SCV. Curtis was by far the most professional, the most responsive to all our odd questions (providing quotes for multiple options to save costs where we wanted to), and the most reasonably priced. The actual performance of the work was fantastic. Fair payment terms, no nickel and diming, and clear plans. Even with all the latest rain storms we've been having, the pavers immediately got tested for slope, and the installation seems to be perfect (no water poolage at all - which our neighbors who used the builder-recommended option or installed themselves can't say). He even worked with our pain in the ass management company to get the plans approved. I would highly recommend him to everyone. One unexpected benefit from this fantastic work (including the little details like the cutout for another planter area and the different paver block shapes creating a border around the pavers) is that it makes our backyard feel bigger and more like an extension of our living room. It definitely added more value to our house. If you're planning to landscape your backyard, I'd recommend getting a variety of quotes and immediately throwing away anyone that comes in a lot cheaper than the rest because clearly their doing something wrong (not high quality materials, not fully bonded and licensed, etc.). Work with the landscaper to figure out a plan that you want and plan for the future (i.e. pre-wire everything). And finally, get a quote from Curtis! He'll explain costs, services, options, and do all of that and more with a friendly face. read more

Look no further! I recently used Smith Landscape and couldn't be happier. Full disclosure, I'm a detail-oriented person, leaning OCD and a worrier from birth. Curtis came to my home for a consultation and estimate. I know what I like and don't like, so I let him know what I was thinking but also told him I was looking for suggestions and ideas too. Just because I might think something is a good idea, you won't be hurting my feelings if you tell me it won't work and why. After discussing the ideas and receiving what I felt was a fair bid, I was ready to get started. When I didn't hear from him for about a week, my worrying started to set in; it's an affliction. I checked in with him and he let me know when he would be starting. Once the work began, I was immediately at ease. Curtis was so easy to work with. He is a bit OCD himself and it absolutely shows in his work. He certainly has great pride in what he does and cares about his clients. He did everything we discussed along with a few added things that I had requested, and he spotted a couple of things he wanted to fix; his OCD. The project consisted of both hardscape and landscape but was not a huge project. I felt the customer service I received was as if my project was the most important job he was working on. I would highly recommend Curtis and his team for all your landscape projects you might be considering. You too will be happy! read more

After living in our home for several decades, we decided to completely redo our front yard, both the hardscaping and landscaping. We were excited to work with Curtis Smith after watching him transform our neighbors' front yard into a beautiful combination of carefully selected plants and trees which accented their new walkways and driveway. In short, he transformed our yard with similar magic. What impressed us also was the professionalism of Curtis and his team. Talented craftsmen arrived every morning on schedule, and they were very easy to work with when we added a suggestion or two or made minor changes to the design Curtis produced. After 15 years of neglect, our yard has been transformed into a lovely oasis by Curtis and his wonderful team at Smith Landscape. Curtis was extremely patient and listened to our ideas for our waterfront hillside yard. His team not only did an excellent job picking and placing the numerous plants to enhance the landscape, but also constructed a new ocean side deck and new hillside stairs with path lighting. He also improved our watering/irrigation system to include strategically placed sprinklers and drip irrigation units. The whole job was done professionally, on budget, and in a timely manner. Definitely will call them back in the future for any of our landscaping needs! read more

Smith Landscape and Maintenance is the best. They are professional, responsible, punctual and friendly. I have a large yard that was in need of a sprinkler overhaul. Curtis and his crew came in and redid the entire system. The brown spots disappeared and my water bill went down. They did what they said they were going to do. Curtis was responsive and courteous from the start. I was looking to renovate multiple planter beds with new plants, irrigation and lighting. Curtis listened to my concerns about what type of plants and lighting and made it come true. He took the time to tour a local nursery and guide me in the direction I wanted to go for lower maintenance and hearty plants. I HIGHLY recommend Smith Landscaping and Maintenance. We have used Smith for two separate projects now and have found them to be reliable, personable, detail oriented, and committed to excellence. Curtis Smith was our project manager for both of our projects. I appreciated how much he listened to what we requested and followed through. Additionally, he was at our job site at some point every day to manage his staff and the project but also to check in with me to make sure that I was aware and in the loop at all times. It was easy to get in touch regardless of day, night, or weekend. We could text, email, or call and we consistently got a response right away. The first project we had Smith do was a driveway extension to make our driveway wider so we could park multiple cars on our driveway. I was impressed how Smith created what we wanted with our simple sketches. They also worked hard to find the materials to ensure that the extension matched our existing driveway and landscape. Our second and most recent project involved a HUGE fire pit and bench, concrete pad for our spa, removal of a large cement planter, and landscaping. We had provided Smith with a sketch on graph paper and an image from Pinterest on how we wanted our backyard to look and they made it happen. I was particularly impressed with Smith's Masonry Contractor who kept my Pinterest image right next to his tools and continually used it for reference to ensure that the fire pit was being built to match the inspiration image. Further the Masonry contractor was committed to detail and would measure everything he built multiple times to be sure that it was correct. All of the staff, were helpful to my electrician who needed trenches dug for the spa. I appreciated how they all worked together well to get everything done. Throughout our projects, all of the staff were friendly, hard working, patient, and kind to my children (which is a huge deal because there are 3 of them running around). Best contractor you can hire! read more
