When in Cambridge, you must go punting.
My original plan was to actually do the punting, but my friend was having none of it, so we went with Scudamore's Punting Company.
As it was my first trip to Cambridge, I also wanted to do a bus tour, and on the Scudamore's website, you can purchase advanced tickets for a combination of the punting tour and the bus tour. You just purchase online, and bring your code (which is emailed to you), to the Scudamore's booth to redeem it. There was a guy who tried to sell us tours when we were walking towards the booth, when asked what deals he would have offered me had I not pre-purchase my tour package, he asked me how much I paid, I told him and then he didn't say anything, so I think I made a good purchase by going online.
My friend and I were set for the next tour, there were 10 adults and one child in our punt. Our punter was Fergus, he was very fun and very knowledgeable, he is a Cambridge boy after all. We were seated last, at the opposite end of Fergus and it was definitely the best seats in the punt. I was able to hear Fergus clearly and my view was not obstructed when I turned to take a photo.
We did hit a few other punts, but that's because people were in the way, just remember when your punter tells you to keep hands and feet inside the punt at all times, they're not kidding, I would imagine getting it caught between punts would hurt like hell.
Overall, I'm very happy with Scudamore's Punting Company as my first punting experience, I'm glad my friend talked me out of punting ourselves because with just two people, it's a bit awkward. Punt yourself when you have a group 3 or 4, otherwise, go to Scudamore's. read more
