Thorough, sharp, and found us all the best animals. I would recommend coming into this dive with a little more experience than me (I'd only done 2 dives before this) if you want to fully take in all the animals. I struggled with trim and buoyancy bit in the surge and I'd love to do it all over again knowing what I know now. Either way, incredible experience and Zach is absolutely the man to do it with. Also, ask him about reggae.

I can't recommend Zach's Scuba Shack highly enough…read more Zach is a top-notch scuba guide who knows the La Jolla dive sites like the back of his hand. From the start, he clearly explained the conditions and what to expect. When the day we initially chose turned out to be less than ideal, he was flexible and helped us reschedule for the following day, which ended up being a fantastic dive. His calm, casual demeanor immediately put me at ease, especially since it had been a couple of years since my last dive. Underwater, Zach was attentive and thoughtful, pointing out marine life we absolutely would have missed on our own. The rental gear was also excellent--clean, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared. He even had the correct weight setup ready for each diver, which made the whole experience smooth and professional. As a local, I plan to dive with Zach again to continue learning the area and progress my diving skills. If you're diving in La Jolla, Zach is the person you want guiding you.

Davor was excellent from start to finish. He was patient with our skill level, highly professional, and clearly very knowledgeable. He took the time to make sure we were doing all the in-water exercises correctly, gave us valuable tips to improve our technique, and made us feel comfortable throughout the session. What stood out the most was how much he genuinely cared about our learning and safety. His attention to detail and encouraging attitude made a big difference in helping us rebuild our confidence. I would recommend Davor to anyone and everyone looking to dive or refresh their skills. Truly a top-notch instructor!

He called me right back and immediately assuaged all my fears. He was empathic explaining he had a child the same age and understood why I would be nervous but that he would take care of my son. He was also was extremely knowledgeable on the effects diving could have on a type 1 diabetic and he took it extremely seriously, explaining that if he saw anything that would be concerning for him he would cut the dive right then. The day of the dive we met him on time and he was a very kind but also a no nonsense type of guy which me and my husband really appreciated. He explained everything to us about the dive with just facts and by the time he took my son in the water we both felt 100% comfortable with trusting him to take care of our son. I would highly recommend Davor to anyone! On a side note, we purchased the video package and we got back so many incredible videos of our sons dive! So the video package is extremely worth the cost!

He was super-knowledgeable and friendly, and recommended some masks for purchase that worked perfectly. Shout-outs to Brandy and Vicky as well for all the assistance on air fills and rental gear return. Our instructors Ken and Michael were awesome, great mix of light-hearted banter and excellent serious instruction. Went from being somewhat anxious at the start of the pool days to feeling fairly confident by the end of the ocean dives. Learned a ton and really appreciated all the advice and expertise. If you're looking to get into scuba diving, this is the place to do it!

I am a petite female (at least my face is ;). Anyway, I called to see if they had a mask in stock…read morethat was small enough to fit my face. The woman who answered placed me on a brief hold. When she returned she said she actually had 3 different masks she thought would work. When I arrived at the shop she had all 3 on the counter for me to try on. She even gave me tips on how to keep it from fogging up (baby shampoo) and the reason why a solid instead of a clear "gasket" around the face might be preferable (it blocks the light from your eyes, which is especially important if your eyes are sensitive to light.) Not only was their customer service phenomenal, but their prices were reasonable. I told her my price range and all the masks she showed me met my criteria. They even offer guided excursions. I highly recommend this establishment for your scuba and snorkeling needs!
