I booked with Davor to take my 18 year old son out who had just been certified weeks before. I was of course extremely nervous not only for this being his first dive, but because my son is a type 1 diabetic. I sent Davor a long email after booking asking a million questions. He called me right back and immediately assuaged all my fears. He was empathic explaining he had a child the same age and understood why I would be nervous but that he would take care of my son. He was also was extremely knowledgeable on the effects diving could have on a type 1 diabetic and he took it extremely seriously, explaining that if he saw anything that would be concerning for him he would cut the dive right then. The day of the dive we met him on time and he was a very kind but also a no nonsense type of guy which me and my husband really appreciated. He explained everything to us about the dive with just facts and by the time he took my son in the water we both felt 100% comfortable with trusting him to take care of our son. I would highly recommend Davor to anyone! On a side note, we purchased the video package and we got back so many incredible videos of our sons dive! I met Davor on the beach one night as he was taking out another group of divers. The depths off La Jolla Shores were already alight with divers' flashlights here and there. When I asked what was good to see at night, his response was, "Everything." I signed up for a night dive with SD Scuba Guide the following week and he was right! My boyfriend is recently certified and this was his first night dive so Davor made sure to keep an eye on him. It went fabulously well! With Davor's dive prep and planning, we felt comfortable. The dive from La Jolla Shores has a decent walk and swim. We suited up at the park and then walked down across the pathway, across the beach and into the water. Thank goodness for high tide and shallow waves From there, you swim out quite a ways and descend about 30 feet and swim out to the wall. Our depth was limited to about 60 feet but I read that there are much deeper spots. At the wall, we encountered huge lobsters, octopus, yellow crabs and beautiful corals. Sadly, no horn sharks - next time! Even the swim along the sand floor was captivating. Tiny crabs fighting for territory, rays, sand anemones, sea pansies, halibut and shrimp. Also, if you don't have your own gear, these guys supply decent rentals. The flashlights were brand new, the wetsuits were in good shape, and the BCDs were in good condition too. This review is for the Snorkeling tour. It was fantastic! My husband and I haven't been snorkeling for over 10 years and even then it was very limited. Davor was very patient with us, very accommodating, and very helpful in preparing us for what we were going to experience. Everything about the tour from beginning to end was wonderful and I felt very safe and comfortable. Davor is an excellent instructor and very knowledgeable about the geography and flora/fauna of the reserve. Very interesting and super fun! I highly recommend his snorkeling tours to anyone! Having not gone diving in a while, my son and I scheduled a refresher course with San Diego Scuba Guide. The most important element in any diving trip class is that you feel confident about your abilities, your surroundings, your equipment and your dive master. Davor's calm and confident demeanor was exactly what we needed. Davor lead us through a thorough refresher course, I felt comfortable asking any questions, even "stupid" questions. By the time we completed the dry portion of the course I was much more confident in my abilities. During the wet portion of the course Davor's instructions were clear, even under water when we only had hand signs to communicate. During the entire course I felt safe and comfortable and by the end I was much more confident about my own and my son's diving abilities. Davor was very personable and an excellent teacher. Prior to visiting Southern California for the weekend, I chose a scuba guide online. Davor turned out to be an excellent choice. This was my first time scuba diving and Davor explained everything to me and answered all my questions with vast knowledge and much patience. This was a completely comfortable and spectacular experience for me. The visibility was excellent, the ocean was calm, and we dove in the morning. During our dive, we saw so much life including flounder, snails, stingrays, smelt, perch, striped jacks, garibaldi, brittle star, octopi, torpedo rays limpets, schools of fish, a young eel, a huge spiny lobster that actually crawled up Davor's arm to explore, oysters, evidence of clams (lots of shells), and what might have been three young (wide) barracuda quickly swim by in the not so far distance. Davor is professional and friendly. I have been diving with him twice, once for a day dive and once for the night dive, both were incredible experiences! He spends time at the beginning of each dive to go over your diving comfort level, safety, the plan for the dive, and any questions you may have for him. While diving, he made sure to point out any sea life he noticed and was never in a rush! On the night dive, we saw an octopus crawling around, and we sat there to watch it for a bit. Davor is a fantastic dive guide. I recently completed a night dive from La Jolla Shores with him. It was my first dive in well over 6 months and he reassured me very well, I did not even realised I was stressed until after his safety briefing and going through the dive plan. After those I felt much more confident that I could follow his clear instructions and have a successful dive. He was funny, patient and a pleasure to dive with, he pointed out the wide array of marine life on offer at the shores and had no problem waiting around as I fumbled about to get a blurry pic with my gopro. It had been about a year since I have been diving and I was a bit unsure of what to expect. I could not have asked for a better experience for my return to the ocean! I chose San Diego Scuba Guide based on its excellent reviews and I was not disappointed. The dive groups are small by design and the experience is very personalized. Dovar, the owner and dive guide, quickly put me at ease with his professional demeanor, knowledge and experience. It was immediately apparent that he puts safety first with emphasis on the quality of the dive experience. As a guide, he is very knowledgeable and as an instructor he is filled with tips to improve my skills and make the dive experience smooth and enjoyable. He has top notch equipment for rent, if you do not bring your own. La Jolla Cove is amazing- a beach dive with a short surface swim to the dive site. Giant kelp, several species of fish, lobsters, and sea lions. Although I only did one dive, there is another available beach dive at the La Jolla Shores. Next time I am in San Diego, I will definitely dive with San Diego Scuba Guide again and I would not hesitate recommend Dovar to my family or friends. read more

I came to La Jolla to get PADI certification and contacted Davor Potocnjak. he suggested that I take the tour first and then decide whether to go for the certification. He picked me up from my hotel and took me to Mission Bay. He came well prepared with all the equipment. On the ground, he explained in detail various intricacies of diving. In the water, he was extremely patient in teaching me the skills necessary for diving. Whenever I had hard time getting a handle on the skill, he helped me practice it several times before moving on to the next skill. Once we we had it down we went out for the tour which itself was nice. During the tour Davor checked with me time and again if I was doing ok. Overall I am extremely satisfied and I look forward to taking the certification dive with him. read more
