I had a great time diving with Paco. I have multiple certs but hadn't been in the water in about two years. He was very attentive in refreshing me on my skills. Paco was very detailed in our dive plan, and made me feel safe. It was easy to follow his instructions, and no details were left out. After our dive, we spoke more about other diving spots in PR and about what we saw. Carlos helped me book my dive and he was incredibly helpful and warm as well. We had a good experience with ScubaDogs, but not great. 1) We booked for a Monday and they were locked when we got there, with a sign on the door saying they weren't open on Mondays. We had to find staff at the hotel to call them to find out they did in fact plan to come and do our trip 2) We went at the same time as couples doing scuba diving, and we were snorkeling with a kid. We stopped in a great scuba diving place that was too rough for snorkeling, and then the scuba people had to come with us to a place that was great for snorkeling and horrible for scuba. All in all, we sat on the boat for quite a while waiting for the scuba people to finish, and then they waited for us. I did appreciate the main instructor took extra time to make sure we got a chance to see the sights, that was appreciated and we tipped him for sure. The captain was kinda quiet and grouchy and talked to his friends on the phone while we sat silently in the boat waiting for the scuba folks to come back. All in all it was a good time but I wouldn't book again without clarifying that we could go out with just snorkelers. read more

They cancelled our dive on 8 pm the day before. Did not give us any advanced notice or reason. Ours was the only dive cancelled that day Our dive was scheduled for a Sunday. They have cancellation penalties for customers but no consequences or penalties for themselves. If you cancel so late and aren't flexible with rescheduling you may ruin some people's trips. I also booked several weeks in advance. Be careful when booking with this company. I think they may overbook. read more

We had a great time. I am a certified diver and went with son who had never been diving. Our dive master, Steve, was fantastic. He was patient and knowledgeable and helped my son understand the basics of diving. Unfortunately the visibility the day we went was not good but that's not anyone's fault. Scuba Dogs canceled our snorkel tour the day before it was supposed to leave, but then offered other options which we booked. Since we travel with our own snorkel gear, we just headed over to the dive shop on our own and rented a locker for $5. The visibility was horrible, I think we maybe lasted 30 minutes After talking it over we asked the dive shop if they could reschedule our tour for the next day to earlier in the morning (in hopes for better visibility). They (Carlos and Paco) were more than happy to accommodate. At 8:30 the next morning we arrived ready to go. Paco was an amazing snorkel guide. He was able to read the currents, and kept us from over exerting ourselves. Somehow the two hour tour seemed the fly by. Paco was great about showing us the fish and telling us what we were looking at! If I could give Paco more than 5 stars I would. If I could give Scuba Dogs' customer service (Carlos) more than 5 stars I would. They were amazing! read more

I recommend this dive shop if you're in San Juan - the staff is professional and friendly, and the location is nice. I went on a shore dive through caverns and a small tunnel, which was cool! The dive was pretty shallow as it's in a sheltered little cove, which made buoyancy a bit difficult. This shop organizes an annual underwater trash clean-up, which is great! read more

Manolo is really just awesome! Today my son had his first dive. The weather all week has been really bad. Thats an understatement. I called him up yesterday and explained how our trip has been nothing but canceled excursions, and that I really just needed to get my son in the ocean for a dive and safely before returning home. he assured me he would "hold my sons hand" the entire time. I assumed this meant he was going to keep a watchful eye on him. He took us through the discover course, and LITERALLY held my child's hand for an entire hour under the ocean. He pointed out and described all of the fish in detail (descriptions prior to the dive lol). Just a tremendous human being and I could not give a higher recommendation! Sent voice memos and videos the day prior with parking suggestions as well. Savi was particularly patient with him while also helping the rest of the group have a good time / not be slowed down. Multiple times I felt like Savi was looking out for me, my friends and the natural environment as we were diving. Really appreciated all of the help and assistance. I will say that, based on previous reviews, you should keep a "raincheck" day. My reservation was rescheduled the week before due to a cruise liner getting priority. Since it was a week beforehand, no complaints! They are a small business trying to manuever a hurricane-torn environment, and even doing so they gave fantastic service. Give them a try! read more

I came here for an introductory Scuba class with my girlfriend's family on a cruise excursion. Alberto was an excellent instructor and made the whole experience engaging and enjoyable for the entire group - he made an effort to provide valuable information and a fresh experience for first timers and more experienced divers alike. Snorkeling Staff was great, patient, helpful, knowledgeable and put a lot of energy into explaining everything and guiding us. They really care about the ocean and preserving / rebuilding the area. Escambron Marine Park itself has very poor visibility and old iron structures that freaked me out. I had to really watch out to not get scraped by them! I wouldn't go again although I saw the most beautiful sea turtles 2 ft away! Also large and small fishies! All creatures seem used to the snorkelers :-) I didn't like that the tour was advertised as also taking "a short walk to a beautiful beach internationally recognized by the "Blue Flag" eco-labeled program as one of the best kept beaches in the world." That did not happen and I didn't see a well kept beach anywhere... Lots of brown kelp-like plants floating, that you had to wade through. I read later that, although part of the USA, Puerto Rico is not receiving nearly enough money from the States and it shows. The island is still waiting for the promised funds to rebuild after the hurricane in 2017. The power system is still more or less down in 2022 and air pollution is very real as well. Trump retracted Obama's promise to help with funds. Thank you guys for still making the best of it, showing us a good time and caring for the Marine Park! read more

Didn't live up to our expectations based on the reviews. It's very hard to get details from them before booking. They say it's optional to know how to swim but it's not and there is an additional fee after you get there. For us the instructor did not pay attention to oxygen tanks before the second dive after initial training dive since we were both first timers. We ran out of oxygen so we didn't get to see much around and for the amount we paid the experience was disappointing. read more

Went snorkeling with John as our guide in Escambron Park. John it's an amazing guide. He's warm and caring and takes time to make sure that everybody has their equipment on, knows how to use it, and is ready to enjoy the adventure! He had a group of mixed levels of familiarity with snorkeling and he handled it perfectly. We got to see turtles several times. Great staff. I'd recommend trying it scuba diving for the first time with these people. We called them around 12pm, and went scuba diving a little after 2pm. I'm not comfortable being in the ocean, but I was pressured into scuba diving so I had to go. I'm not certified so we went with a dive master. The staff was encouraging but not pushy. They were patient and helped me adjust under water (multiple times). They brought along food for the fish. While I recommend the staff, I don't think I'd necessarily recommend scuba diving at this location. The price isn't immaterial, and the visibility was really low (I couldn't see pass 2-3 feet). Granted - the staff warned us about the visibility before we agreed to it. Also, there wasn't that many fish to be seen. At the end of the day, I do recommend the staff and the act of scuba diving. read more

Really, really great staff. I called to make last minute arrangements, day of, and surprisingly they accommodated. They warned me that I'd be tagging along with someone else's training dive in the bay, but for how last minute I was, I didn't mind. When the other customer bailed, they gave me a private dive instead. The entire staff was super friendly, yet very professional. While signing the paperwork, David, Chris, and I chatted up about NYC and LA. I had forgotten my SSI license, but thankfully SSI has an online membership verification, which Scuba Dogs gladly accepted. John, my dive master, seemed super chill, but when it came time to dive, he was immediately attentive to details and procedure, which to me showed he was serious about safety. Very bad experience. I don't recommend it at all. The management only thinks about getting money from visitors and doesn't care about the quality of their service. The snorkeling gear was defective. Also, the day of snorkeling the ocean was stormy. Still they didn't refund. We saw nothing on our trip. The water was too muddy. We barely could see anything. Very very bad bitter experience. When I told the manage, she even didn't apologize. She said she wouldn't know if it's a good day for snorkeling or not unless she gets the visitors in the water!! BS! read more

I'm writing this review for their newest location located just behind the historic (but vacant) Normandie Hotel, right next to the Hilton Caribe. I was there last Friday for the Discovery scuba diving tour. The diving instructor there, Maggie, was totally cool and obviously knows what she's doing. Her clear explanation of what she'll show us once in water gave confidence to our group. Equipments were clean. The diving cove is great for beginners, 'cuz there's an old wall out in the cove that helps reduce the wave. It's helpful when you're just learning how to use the regulator and letting water out of your goggles under water. Once we've mastered those skills, then we made way over those walls to feed the fishes and explore. The tour left us with smiles on our faces. Overall, a good experience and would definitely recommend to my friends. read more

This was my first time doing snorkeling, and it was one of the worst experiences that I have ever done there. The gentlemen that was assisting us was very doll. He did not have one ounce of energy. He spoke very low, and expected us to hear everything. The life vest that were given was the same one they give you on the airplane, (in cases of an emergency). Mines had a whole on it, thank GOD that I alerted them it was losing air little by little without me recognizing it. All the guy did was laugh and say he will get me another one. He got me one that didn't even fit me, and was so small. The shoes given to swim with was worn out. Once we got into the water, there was so much seaweed, (which isn't there fault)but disappointed just a tad bit. We started swimming and my partner had told the tour guide that the salt water was going into her eyes. He told her there's nothing he can do about it. Eventually he ended up giving her his goggles. (After she looked like she wasn't enjoying it anymore), also my brothers life vest was losing air. Once we started looking for fish, he told us that unfortunately we're not going to see turtles. (A reason that is unknown till this day). I started to feel sick along the tour, very nauseous, I told the tour guide and he said "throw up in the water, I do it all the time". He also didn't even take pictures of us. Instead he asked if anybody had a go pro. LONG STORY SHORT, I am never coming back here again. Do not waste your money please!! Go else where.
