VIP Adventures is such a fun spot for water activities in Puerto Rico -- they've got everything…read morefrom snorkeling to kayaking, and the prices are super fair for what you get. It's an easy way to spend a day in the sun without breaking the bank. The only hiccup was during check-in. I was told to head to the back for the "dos and don'ts" of snorkeling, but when I found the staff member, he just said, "yeah, you snorkel on the other side of the bay," and pointed behind him. No safety rundown, no directions, nothing. I ended up going back inside, and thankfully another staff member stepped in and got me set up properly. Once I was out in the water, though, it was beautiful -- calm, clear, and full of marine life. Overall, a great experience with just a small bump in the beginning. I'd definitely return.

They ask that you arrive about 15 minutes early, and when we got there, most of the staff greeted us inside the storefront before directing us out back to the kayaking area. For belongings, they give you two options: you can pay $5 for a locker with a key, or you can leave your things in the storage bins out back where someone is always present. I wasn't completely comfortable with the bins, but the staff reassured me that nothing had ever happened to guests' belongings. I decided to take the chance, left my bag there with cash inside, and thankfully, everything was safe and untouched when we returned. Our instructor was Kyler and he was amazing. He was patient, informative, and honestly did most of the work steering our kayak since my daughter kept getting frustrated and turning us in the wrong direction. Kyler shared a lot of history about the Condado Lagoon, pointing out landmarks, statues, and explaining the local marine life--what's there, what isn't, and why motorboats aren't allowed. The way back was more challenging because of the wind, so this time it was up to us to paddle. I ended up doing most of it (patting myself on the back here), and by the time we finished, I was completely soaked from the back--no idea how that happened, but it was all part of the adventure. We wrapped up after about an hour, grabbed our belongings, and everything was still there. Overall, it was such a fun and memorable experience for both my daughter and I.

Will look for the picture. Since, yesterday it has changed to their normal prices. The deducting another 1 star because: 1- There is no formal training. If they think 2 mins of telling you how to row, kneel, and stand than I guess they might as well deduct $10 for that. And just rent out paddle boards lol. 2- I'm a very strong swimmer and found it very hard to maneuver against the wind/current. 3-Things they've failed to mention do not stand if your paddling against the waves. You will flip over. You will go in and basically teach yourself and if you have common sense then you will come out of it learning and teaching yourself how to paddle board. Again you will TEACH yourself how to paddle board. LOL Btw- I did see a manatee up close and that was pretty nice. And yes, I came out an avid self taught pro paddle boarder. We called ahead to reserve five paddleboards for an hour ($20/person), and were greeted immediately upon arrival. They were very accommodating even though we were a little late. There was even a place to store our wallets and backpacks despite the whole thing being outdoors. After paying with our credit cards (also a plus, since most places in San Juan only take cash), we were given a quick crash course on how to paddleboard as the others in my group had never been before and sent out into the water. The lagoon was pretty calm -- no waves or strong current, so it wasn't too hard to paddle. The best part for me was definitely the manatee that we found swimming the middle of the lagoon. Overall, wonderful experience.

It was rather busy but we did find one spot. Not sure where you go if that is full. Our guides were absolutely fantastic. Super friendly. Respectful of the animals and knowledgeable about the area. The tour uses glass bottom boats. You can see the sea grass but we didn't see any fish below our boat. You hang out in the bay a bit then go under the bridge to the ocean side. Definitely gets rougher but nothing to worry about. We saw several turtles poking their heads above the water. We saw iguanas in the trees and a puffer fish swam by. As we were coming in, a manatee surfaced and our guide was able to get a video of her. We saw the nose and head from our boats but they are rather shy so a video to tie it all together was the way to go. You are on the water for about an hour. They take a bunch of pics for you and send those to you after the tour. They were also helpful with restaurant ideas and other sites to see. We enjoyed the experience.

I showed up unannounced and was out on the water before I knew it. He has a nice selection of the latest model RRD boards and sails to help me get back into sailing after a long snow bound winter in Boston. The location is awesome and its obvious why it is a favorite spot of local sailors. I had great winds, 20+ knots every day I was there in early March. The equipment is stored a few steps from a nice grass rigging area right above the beach. It's a clean, sandy, sheltered beach with minimal shorebreak to deal with and the wind fills in beyond the swimming area. The conditions ranged from flatter closer to the point to bigger swells as you get toward the reefs where there were nice sets of breaking waves. I started out on wide 120l Fire move then moved down to the fast 112l Fire race. The 7.0 RAF sail I used had a lot of speed and power, good range and was easy to waterstart outside in the 5' to 10' swell. Albir was an awesome host - easy going, supportive. Launching from La Guancha, the dock was easy to get to and there was plenty of parking. For $28 roundtrip (as of 12/16), it was a value excursion! On this uninhabited island, there are no stores or vendors. Bring your own food, drinks, and beach comfort items. The ferry does sell drinks, some alcoholic beverages, snacks, and food (hot dogs and kebabs). You have to preorder the food in the morning and they'll cook it up fresh while you go play on the island, serving lunch at noon. For $60, you get roundtrip transportation and twelve meal and drink tickets (two tickets for food items, one ticket for snacks and drinks, including beer). The prices onboard are actually quite reasonable, so the meal tickets really aren't that much of a deal, in my opinion. You can also rent beach chairs and snorkeling gear from Island Ventures at very affordable prices. On this gorgeous island, we wanted to do it all! We wanted to hike to the lighthouse, explore the caves, play at the beach...everything! But we somehow couldn't get away from the water. We played at the beach, snorkeled, and then beached again. Snorkeling gear was only ten bucks to rent (as of 12/16), but because I can't swim and needed a life vest, I paid another two bucks for the whole shebang. While we were close to coral along the shore, it wasn't the best snorkeling environment. Not a lot of wildlife around all those human types that lined the shores. There were many fish under the dock, so we carefully explored that area. The water is a brilliant turquoise, but not very clear (it wasn't dirty, it just wasn't crystal clear), so it was often times difficult to see, even from a short distance away. Ferry leaves La Guancha at 8:30 AM on the dot, so get there early to check in and grab a seat. The forty-five minute ride each way is pretty smooth. Ferry leaves the island at 3:30 PM. That's almost six hours on the island! For us, it was just right. A perfect day on a gorgeous island with an attentive ferry staff.

The Island itself is 5 + stars, but one of the only ways to get there (Island Ventures) knocks it down a star. Island Venture Ferry Basics -- $25 per person which includes two drink tickets (can be claimed for Medalla Light, Coors Light, or soda). You can also upgrade your ticket for $10 and get 15 drink tickets (!) --Boat leaves from La Guancha at 8:30am (but you must arrive by 7:40am) and from the island at 3:30 (boards at 3). Ride takes about 45 minutes and has a lower level with shade. --They also sell hot dogs and kebabs and rent umbrellas on the ship and the ship stays docked there so you can continue to purchase drinks/food while you're on the island. Caveats: --The company holds weird hours and are hard to get a hold of, especially if you don't speak Spanish. --Their online booking system can be glitchy, my friend's reservation got mixed up for the wrong day. --Spots book up fast, book early! --They charge a fee for coolers (although we had soft/bag style coolers and were not charged). --We shared the boat with a school trip...so yea, there's that. ISLAND --AWESOME. --Walk up (down? into?) the cave. --Walk up to the lighthouse for some AMAZING views (30 minutes, bring water, we did it in flip flops but prob shouldn't have). --Love life on the beach. Watch out for jellyfish though! --Snorkel! (Not the best I've seen, but still cool). --Admire cacti and wildlife (hermit crabs and lizards everywhere!) During some seasons there are apparently sea turtles nesting! --Pack a picnic and enjoy it on the picnic tables! They also have compost "bathrooms." They smell and don't have soap, but there's TP! --Avoid the small beach to the left of the dock (if you're facing the island)-loaded with bugs! --Perfect day trip and one of my favorite activities from our Puerto Rico trip! ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND. Must go!
